I'm never going back! 9/14/2007

Let me say first off, that I am usually very understanding when it comes to hair dressers especially since my grandmother and 2 other family members do this as a living. However, I went to "Talking Heads" on Kirby because it was close to my house. But unfortunately, I had a very bad experience. I went to Jean to have an inch taken off and to keep the same style I had when I walked in (just layered and flat). It was $39 when it was supposed to be $28. She said since she textured my hair and straightened it (with a straightening iron) that added to the cost. I didn't even ask for texturing (my hair is coarse and very thick with plenty of texture already!) and I would have straightened it myself if I knew it was extra. I wanted it layered and trimmed and that's it. She didn't even straighten it right. It looked crimped and puffy when she was done. I own a $100 straightener at home and do it every day so i told her how to straighten it right and she still didn't get it. (I had to do it over myself when I got home) After she told me the price at the very end, I told her I was expecting it to be cheaper, and she said "well you'll really enjoy the benefits from the texturing" and I told her she should have told me it was going to cost more before she just went and did it, and she said "I'll work with you on that next time", and "you know, you have a lot of hair"! I actually had my grandmother (a master stylist) teach me how to layer my own hair which I do occasionally but the back is just too hard to do because I can't see it well. Jean had a whole different way of doing it, and it seemed like she was nervous cutting it too. So I feel like she charged me more just because she felt like it was harder because she has NO experience with thick hair. By the way I am a caucasion girl with shoulder length hair and it is by no means out of control. If you are looking for a close salon, I suggest the new one on NASA Rd 1 "Untangled". Leanne is great and does what you want. Pros: Open on weekends, walk-ins welcome Cons: There are added costs they don't tell you about until the end, not experienced with all hair types. more
