You can't beat Takohachi for ramen in Seattle 2/27/2007

Takohachi is the real deal. There's a reason all the japanese exchange students head there for a taste of the homeland. Not only is their ramen the best in Seattle by far, everything on the menu from katsu curry to tempura is stellar. Their hours aren't great, the interior is so-so and don't mess with mama-san, but it's amazing food and reasonably priced. And their green tea is sooooooo good. more

Comfort food - but expect a wait 1/11/2007

Takohachi is one of those stalwart i-district places that should never change their menu, but it would be great if they expanded and provided faster service. The portions are insanely great. The food is generally fried, but some of their stews (like the Kimchi soup) are just perfect for the winter. Japanese Curry rice is an option with most of the menu items. All right! more

Transports you to Old Japan 2/13/2006

Takohachi reminds me of a restaurant that closed down a few years ago - Koraku. The style is old fashioned menus in Japanese and English, fried meats (hamburg, fried pork, etc), and an older Japanese woman running around. Quirky drawn illustrations of the menu items decorate the walls, complete with color. The tastes are good, service is okay and the prices are right. My favorite about the place is the pickled cabbage that is hard to find -- I always get two orders ;) If you go for lunch, go early or late, but not right at 12:00. Unfortunately, this place has been discovered by more people, but I guess that is a good thing since it might actually stay in business. more

Best Japanese Food in Seattle 8/20/2005

Takohachi reminds me of many small mom-and-pop restaurants you can find all over Japan. The food is heavy on the tonkatsu, light on the sushi-style offerings. The food is hearty, well-priced and delivered quickly. If you aren't familiar with Japanese food and are intimidated by language barriers, you may want to skip this one, however. Most of the menu is in Japanese with very short english explanations. If in doubt, just get their Tonkatsu and Korokke (Croquette) combination and you'll be good to go. more

like Japanese home cooking 4/26/2005

Takohachi is a Japanese restaurant that tastes like real Japanese family-style cooking. There aren't very many restaurants in the area that are like that. Some of their cooking even reminds me of things my mom cooks. Also the food is reasonably priced, so it's a good place to come and try real Japanese cooking. more
