LOVE LOVE LOVE did we say LOVE? Fast and good!

This restaurant sucked. My first complaint: the decor and atmosphere. The first thing someone should think when they enter a restaurant is: ""ah, this will be a pleasant dining ex...

Conman waiter, you can cook better curry at home. Avoid. 12/14/2007

I used to like this place since the curry is good. However, the last time I went with my girlfriend, the waiter conned us into ordering the shrimp appetizer that was ""on the house, and that they were giving to everyone"" (lies) and lamb chops that were inedible. It just looked like they were trying to clear the kitchen of their old food that was going bad. Even worse, my girlfriend was going to pay for dinner and ended up getting very upset, so what was supposed to be a lovely evening ended up on a low note, thanks to this restaurant. Pros: None. Cons: IT WAS JUST A LOUSY EXPERIENCE. more

Terrific food, great prices.. Best in Pitt hands down 7/15/2007

Apparently many of the users on this site have no idea whatsoever as to what constitutes good Indian food. Being from India, and having lived in 4 (FOUR) major cities in the US, I can claim quite honestly that Taj Mahal has the best, and most authentic Indian food I have had the pleasure of indulging in. Contrary to another post I found the restaurant spotless and the service terrific and personal on my several visits to the Taj. It is family run, and such the atmosphere is reflective of the small kitchen vibes of home. I would highly recommend the Taj to anyone.. The Chiken Tikka Masala was the best I have tasted in the states.. The Nans could use some work, as could the desserts (Ras Mali was a bit over sweet), but overall the food was great.. I wish they could improve their parking situation. more

Good food But safe to eat? 5/27/2007

As a chef, there are a few things I look for in the front of the house that send up red flags about what might be going on in the back of the house. Pros: Good flavors Cons: Service, Hygene more

Great Food at a wonderful family operated restaurant 9/18/2006

There are very few restaurants in which the owners themselves are involved every day. The Taj Mahal on Mcknight Rd is one of the very few restaurants that still has that taste of home cooked food with friendly service. The interiors are not that good...however the food and service are superior. I dont know why anyone would have anything bad to say about this place...there simply are not many restaurants around with food this good...a must try!!!! Pros: Everything.. Cons: Mabye better interiors? more

Good Food! 1/30/2004

Overall, this is a great restaurant. The interior leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not ""sticky"" or ""shady"" like the other posters claimed. Good Indian food, and they have a nice lunch buffet which was recently expanded. The mango juice is good, and the tandoori chicken could be one of the best buffet items. Service is good, and the people there are friendly to children. Few employees, but adequate for a small restaurant. Prices are pretty good, but the parking lot is pretty small. Definitely a must-visit, and perfect for if you work on McKnight. Pros: Great Food, Buffet Option, Affordable Prices Cons: , So/So Interior more

Worst Place in Pittsburgh 1/23/2004

Trust me you dont want to eat at this place! Apart from the interior being extemely shady, the service is horrible, outrageous prices and I bet you can get better food at a shelter. Totally wasted my time at this place, please dont waste yours. If you are into wasting money and not getting what you pay for, then this place is for you! Pros: location Cons: food sucks, service sucks, everything sucked more

Good food, hot and spicy! 11/8/2002

I find Taj Mahal very good. They don't give you americanized indian food. They probably have toned down the heat, but it is still spicy. I think this is one of the best indian restaurants in the burgh. Pros: great food, good selection, hot and spicy Cons: small parking lot more
