Horrible Treatment By Management and Staff 7/12/2010

Wow! I have never been treated by anyone like I was treated there today. We were asked to wait outside, so I did with my ten month old baby. Other people walking in were allowed to stand inside and were seated. So naturally, I open the door to walk inside and a server puts her hand in front of my chest and pushes me outside- yes, while I was holding my baby! The manager said that she was too busy to deal with me. I am still in shock. more

HORRIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE! 3/9/2010

When we walked in the place was disgustingly dingy. We were in from out of town and I was hesistant to sit down but was starving. Waitress was cold and unfriendly. We placed our orders and the food came out and was luke warm. We ordered deluxe nachos and I don't know what was deluxe about them as they barely had any cheese and maybe 4 pieces of fajitas and more beans than anything. We asked for more cheese and the waitress took out plate without saying a word she was soooo rude! On top of that my friend ordered just nachos with cheese and beans for her son and they didn't even bring it out! We were all finished and the poor 4 year old was eating from siblings plate and when we finally say we don't want the order since they forgot about because we were pressed for time they bring them anyway and say we already made them and try to charge for it. R U KIDDING ME!! I have no idea what the magazines where thinking just walking in the place it looks gross! The food is not even authentic it's luke warm and the eggs are runny ! Cons: everything more

Just ok... 11/22/2009

My boyfriend and I picked up tacos togo from this place and we were a little disappointed. We had heard so many good things and the tacos were just mediocre. The bacon in my taco was almost non existent. We wont be back. There are so many other places in the area that have better food. Pros: location Cons: too small, food was ok more

Too small and a waste of time...disappointed 6/10/2009

Those white folks from that food magazine don't know good mexican food. Go to The Original Donut House on Fredricksburg Road. The tortillas are much better and the salsa is off tha chain! Take cash ya'll because they're old school and dont take credit cards. There was a fine asss waitress with curly hair at Taco Taco. She can help me out anytime! Pros: Fine waitress with curly hair... Cons: Long wait, sub-par food more

Big disappointment 3/28/2009

After hearing about this restaurant from friends, we drove there and waited at least thirty minutes for a table. We were told to anticipate the wait, so it was not a big problem. Once we sat down, it took over ten minutes to get a menu. After ordering, it took twenty minutes for half of us to get our food and another twenty for the rest of the group to get their food. more

Not worth the drive 9/23/2008

After hearing about Taco Taco Cafe on the Food Network, we had to take a drive from the Stone Oak area to visit this local eatery. After waiting for 30 minutes in the heat and being rudely ushered to our seats, I found a sugar packet wrapper in my coffee and flies were everywhere you looked. We found the salsa to be grossly under seasoned and the Taco Norteno to be nothing more than an extra large fajita taco. This small cafe could use a huge renovation/expansion as well as a visit from the health inspector. The tortillas would be my only noteworthy observation at Taco Taco, but if I?m going to make that far of a drive it will be to Lisa?s Mexican Restaurant on Bandera which serves far better food in a nice clean environment. more

By far the best... 8/6/2008

Upon returning to San Antonio (after 7 years) I am impressed. My children and I visit Taco Taco quite frequently for breakfast or lunch at least once a week! I've even taken a customer that wasn't aftraid of trying some real Mexican food. Homemade tortillas just like my grandmother's right off of the comal! I'm pretty picky about Mexican food coming from a border town but the Taco Norteno is AWESOME! Fresh refried beans with hot and steamy beef or chicken, avocado and yummy cheese and some fresh salsa, oh boy a meal of its own, because it's HUGE! My kids love the breakfast tacos and the Huevos Rancheros, mmm!!!! Waitresses are smiling and friendly unlike some of the other restaurants in San Anton. Conveniently located and worth the wait each time! I have shared this hole in the wall with many locals and out of towners and they all want to return AGAIN and AGAIN!!! Pros: Great Puffy Tacos and Flour Tortillas Cons: occasional wait but quick service more

Kind of a let down for the reader's pick of Best Taco In Town 8/1/2008

I guess it was all the hype about this joint that may have led to my disappointment. It was breakfast time, if that means anything, and I have never tried their famous Norteno. For me, the measure of a Mexican restaurant is their salsa and their tortillas. Yes, Taco Taco does make their own tortillas, both corn and flour, but I found the flour tortillas to be doughy and too elastic -- almost rubbery. They also tended to absorb a lot of liquid and fell apart before I had finished my taco. This rarely happens with flour tortillas. The salsa was a bright red concoction that belied its blandness. No spice in the way seasonings, heat or the biting flavor of garlic and cilantro. I didn't taste much onion in there, either. The place is tiny so avoid the rush hours. Pros: Value, Service Cons: Small Size, Weak Salsa, Doughy Tortillas more

Our FINAL trip to TacoTaco 5/25/2008

Don't believe all the Bon Appetit hype. In 20+ years in SA, we've visited Taco Taco a handful of times, but have never gone out of our way to eat there. In any case, breakfast last week was our FINAL trip. Pros: None noted Cons: Slow service, cold food, unsanitary conditions more

Bad Service - Indifferent Management 4/14/2008

I have gone to Taco-Taco many many times and enjoyed the experience. A month ago we had bad service and thought it was an anomaly. Last weekend, we retunred and had the following experience: Our waitress did not bring out chips and we had to ask for them. We asked for coffee with cream and she brought us cups filled so high that they spilled on to the saucer. She would not refill our coffee unless we flagged her down. We ordered guacamole to have with chips and waited 10 minutes for a simple scoop. When I ordered my fajita plate, she asked beef or chicken? and I asked for chicken. She wrote beef on the ticket...It helps to repeat the order. When we received our plates, we did not get tortillas. We asked for her to bring corn and she brought them out after the table was finished with their meals. WORST OF ALL: When I complained to the manager at the register, he simply told me he would talk to the waitress and immediately asked for the money. Tells you where the focus was. For food we should all be able to cook at home, at least in central Texas, it goes to show that we like to eat out for the atmosphere and social experience. Once the experience is lost, there is not a strong reason to return to the establishment. I told the manager that when times are good, it is easy not to care, but bad service will ensure that good times will not last. We will never return. Pros: Good prices - Decent menu Cons: Poor service staff more

Not even close to being good 3/13/2008

I was very disappointed in this place. After hearing all the good things about this place it sucked. Service was slow ,food was bland, and cold. We were a party of 6 and 5 of us got sick I mean really sick. I will never go there again! more

El Mejor!! 3/4/2008

I received a tip to try out Taco Taco shortly after moving to San Antonio from the Richmond, VA area. I was enamored with Taco Cabana and thought it was the best Mexican food I had ever had. I even turned to a friend one day and said, ""How is a hole-in-the-wall like that going to survive so close to Taco C?"" Little did I know that it was the hidden gem of San Antonio!! The food is absolutely amazing. I have gone through a couple phases, breakfast tacos, el norteno (both beef and chicken) and even a few different lunch plates, all are outstanding. The service is high quality, especially considering the volume of people that eat there each day. Do not let your trip to San Antonio conclude without a trip to Taco Taco! more

PHENOMENAL 3/1/2008

One word to describe this diamond in the rough is phenomenal. As I have made a number of business trips to the San Antonio area, my trip is never complete without an El Norteno digesting before I catch my flight back to the Northeast. I was originally recommended to this fantastic establishment by a local and have yet to be so thankful to another stranger in my life. From the authentic service to the unheard of low prices one can only be satisfied after a trip to Taco Taco Cafe. Give yourself the pleasure of enjoying the experience of America's Best Breakfast! Pros: Price, quality, service Cons: Size more

The food was very cold 2/27/2008

After reading about the great tacos I went and tried the famous fajita taco. It was very good. I then took my mother back this week and became very disapointed in the food. The enchiladas were cold and not much cheese and the service was slow. The crispy beef taco had pieces of chicken meat and sausage, very bad. Maybe the word is out and they can't keep up with the crowd. Pros: Parking, Service, Small Cons: Great flour tortillas more

YUM YUM, but bring your own beverage 2/25/2008

We saw the sign boasting The Best Tacos in America, and being self proclaimed fatty's we wanted some of the action. We stopped and waited in the line outside for close to 15 minutes. Once inside we waited again for 15 minutes but lucky for us it was worth it!!! We ordered a little of everything, Puffy Taco's were the best we've had in like 20 years of eaing them. They stayed Puffy start to finish, they did not collapse at first bite, WOW. Moving on to Carne Guisada, again yum yum, scoring a A in my book, tender and flavorful and as of yet no indegestion. Tortillas were great as well. Pros: FOOD WAS DELICIOUS Cons: PARKING IS DANGEROUS, SODAS ARE CANNED AND COSTLY more

changed my mind 9/28/2007

We read about this place and took a bunch of out of town friends for breakfast tacos. The breakfast tacos were good- not great. After telling someone else about this experience, they said well you didnt get what they are famous for! So we went back and tried it again with their speciality taco- I cant remember the name- El Northete or something like this. It was amazing. It was one of the best tacos I have ever had- simple but great. The chicken was better than the beef. Pros: great special taco Cons: average breakfast tacos, wait on the weekends more
