Best

If you are low on budget, but want to dine out with friends or just by yourself, this is a great mexican place. The serving size is huge as well

I used to eat at the T.C. location on Riverside, but they started using food that was past its prime. It would be good, healthy food for cheap if it weren't for that. But who ne...

cheap late night drunk absorber 3/20/2012

I know people knock this place sometimes but if it is late and you need something to soak up all the bar juice then this is the place to be.. maybe not at 2:30am when a million people want it but still good place to get something before heading home. more

okay food considering the price - but be careful! 7/2/2010

The food is good considering the price. I almost always use the drive-thru so I can't comment on the in-house staff. The one re-occurring problem we encountered at the drive-thru is that we were often sent off with an incomplete order. All the food we ordered showed up on the receipt, so I knew it wasn't a matter of ""perhaps they didn't understand me when they took my order."" Almost always our order was missing something. Now, I sit there in my car and check my order to make sure everything is there. If it isn't, you bet I'm knocking on that window 'til I get my complete order. The one MAJOR problem we encountered at the drive-thru was on a week night around 11pm. After I received my food from the drive-thru attendant I realized I had not been returned my card. I had not pulled my car away from the window yet so I got her attention and nicely asked for my card back, assuming she had just sat it down and forgot to give it back to me. She insisted she had given it to me (with noticeable attitude). I'm not a careless person...my wallet was in my lap ready for me to put my card back in it. I also did not receive a receipt, which is what they usually give you along with your card after they swipe it. I thought perhaps she had dropped it so I got out of my car in the drive-thru lane and checked the area between my car and the window. Nothing. I drove to the parking lot and practically tore my car apart looking for my card. It wasn't there. I'm not a messy person - I'm not absent-minded. It wasn't there. She didn't give it back to me. I went inside (and not with an attitude, I was very civil and patient) and asked the same girl if she could please look one more time. She walked over to the window area and barely glanced around for more than 5 seconds before she glanced back my way and told me it wasn't there, that she gave it back to me. I then asked to speak to a manager. The man who I spoke to only asked her to look again. I watched her look - a blind person could have done a better job looking. I resisted the urge to jump over the counter and look for myself, not mention strangle someone, and walked back to my car where I promptly got on the phone with the bank to cancel my card (and we all know how pleasant dealing with the bank is! lol). I haven't used my card at Taco Cabana since. Cash all the way. I don't trust them! Pros: quick service, open 24hrs, most of the staff is friendly Cons: Some of the staff are careless, rude, and lazy individuals. more

rude people 1/23/2010

I went through the drive thru at approximately 2:30 am. I waited in line for at least 20 minutes, 10 of which were spent right in front of the order speaker. No one ever took my order so I assumed it was broken and I pulled ahead. When I got to the window the lady there told me I could not order and I had to get back in line. If no one took my order after waiting that long, I think anyine would have assumed the same. This woman should not be working there. Pros: open late Cons: rude workers more

Avoid being a walk in 6/11/2008

First off the main website for Taco Cabana cannot even spell Manchaca road correctly: it is NOT Manchack (2117 W. Ben White & Manchaca)! With that said, #199 located at Manchaca & Slaughter seems to discriminate. My husband & I went inside (no line, pretty slow) and ordered 1 breakfast taco and 1 breakfast plate yet a Mexican family of 5 ordered 10 minutes AFTER we did & got their 7 tacos & 2 plates long before us. Why? We happen to be white and I believe that was only 1 reason. This is not the first time either. The place was not busy and the food that finally came out was barely warm. On this particular Saturday morning the ""acting manager"" was caught on her cell phone while making tacos. Once she saw that I noticed her she got off the phone, removed her ""sanitary"" gloves & replaced them. From then on she made darn sure we were last to be served. And it will be the last time since we will never enter this location again thanks to your ""acting manager""! Taco Cabana is ""fast"" food (ha!) and should not be listed among restaurants. Be aware that employees do not always follow the sanitary rules - its sad that my skin color is also the wrong shade....good luck TC! This store will not get our business ever again. Pros: cheap food Cons: lousy morning manager more

Why Taco Cabana? 2/7/2003

excuse me for saying this, but isn't Taco Cabana like every other Taco Cabana?? I have been to several different ones in Houston & the food is the same...like one chain restaurant to another..so, shouldn't this column be reserved for restaurants that are distinctive, unique, or here's one...local! This is what make columns like this worth reading & going to these particular places..not to a ""chain"" restaurant...... more

Taco something maybe ... 1/30/2003

But what, I'm polite enough not to say. Been there twice and won't be back. The cheese on my nachos was so thin and watery it was translucent and the fajitas were the worst I've ever had. What a way to ruin dinner out for my anniversary! When I want Tex-Mex now, I make it myself. Pros: it's everywhere Cons: too cheap, low quality food more

Cheap Compromise Quality 1/29/2003

yeah, it's cheap, but I wouldn't recommend it! heartburn and low quality food. I threw up my first and last Taco Cabana experience! Head to a 99 cent value menu somewhere! Pros: 24 hrs Cons: Low Quality, Get sick, Gain weight more

24/7 Mexican Food, how can you complain? 1/29/2003

Cheap, 24/7 and an alternative to Jack in the Box. There is nothing not to like about it. 3 bucks for a taco combo or a burrito combo and it comes with chips and queso with the drink included, how can you beat that? Pros: CHEAP! more

Taco cabana sucks.... the meat is marinated in chemicals... and tastes like it more

I used to eat at the T.C. location on Riverside, but they started using food that was past its prime. It would be good, healthy food for cheap if it weren't for that. But who needs a tip about which chain restaurant to eat at anyway? I want the inside scoop on good local, one-of-a-kind eateries. They're much more fun! more

Missing it in CO 11/11/2002

Before anyone complains about the food/service at Taco Cabana, come to Denver. There is NO Tex-Mex to be found and the service in most restaurants and fast foods is worse than any experience I ever had at Taco Cabana. We especially enjoy the tortillas, queso and fajitas. Not to even mention the bean and cheese breakfast tacos. On a recent visit to San Antonio, we ate at the restaurant on Pat Booker Rd. 5 out of the 7 days we were in town. Thanks Taco Cabana, we got our fix : ) Pros: Clean, Inexpensive, Good Value more

Don't bother 10/28/2002

I have only used the drive thru but the service has always been bad. And they always screw up my order. Food is ok when they get it right. Pros: Cheap Cons: Order Wrong more

Taco Nasty 10/22/2002

I'm sorry, but Taco Cabana is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to Mexican food !!!! Sure, it's cheap, but I couldn't even force their ""food"" down my throat when I was starving !!! Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Gross, over rated more

Fajitas are ready 8/16/2002

24/7 you can get good fajitas and tex-mex cheap! Dining area cleanliness is an issue at some locations. Food quality lacks consistentcy and varies somewhat from location to location. Even with occaisional inconsistency, still a greaat bargain aand open wwhen you need them. more

Perfect tortillas! 8/12/2002

Taco Cabana is the best place to go if you only have a couple of dollars to spend on food. In the old days, when I was really struggling, I used to split the beans from one of their bean and cheese tacos to a free tortilla, and that would fill me up. They've made some changes, and you don't get free tortillas anymore. However they are still a bargain. For a fast food place, they are still one of the best places for Mexican food in Austin. I still stick to their bean and cheese tacos or fajita tacos, but the rest of their menu is good. For late at night munchies, nothing beats taco cabana! One con is that the drive-thru can be problematic - just go in to order! Pros: great late night food, best for on the cheap, sold Mexican food more

100% Late Night Munchies Satisfaction 7/28/2002

With all the various fast food/tex-mex restaurants, I have to say that it's my favorite and that you definitely get your money's worth at TC. Not only is it affordable but it's delicious! I leave for Colorado soon, I'll miss Taco Cabana....and let's just say TC tastes good anytime of day, even at 2:30 in the a.m. Good times, and don't forget to floss. Pros: Gr8 tasting tortillas, moves quickly, satisfies Cons: Size of tortillas, (RR...everything) more

Taco Cabana has a wide variety of food and the price is fair. more

Great late-night 6/6/2002

After a night on the town, stop here for tasty, yet cheap tacos. I like to get two beef fajita tacos and call it a night. Sit outside and watch the Lamar traffic. During the day, you can watch folks walking around Town Lake. Also, this is a good meeting place if you are going to do the trail with friends. more
