Worst service ever- stay away 1/27/2012

I made my reservations on opentable. I called the restaurant and was told they would put a candle in the dessert for my friend?s bday. The waitress asks us what we want literally 2 seconds after we sit down. We had to shoo her away at least 3 times. She kept rushing us like she couldn't wait for us to hurry up and order so we could leave. The waitress was an african american, skinny young woman about 5'3 or so. I don't know here name and honestly i'm not sure she told us her name. She got an attitude with me when I requested to switch appetizers. Food came out too fast, like it was rushed. The table next to us were not rushed, but they were regulars from the same waitresses? welcome back comment. After ordering dessert the waitress came back to the table and asked ""whose plate gets the candle?"" I just looked at her like she was an evil dumb bleep. Obviously it was a surprise. She knew she messed up because she goes sorry I asked the hostess but she didn't know. My friend was like what? I said to the stupid waitress um it was for her. A good waitress would ask who is the person that made the reservation and by process of elimination figure it out. Then I got the wrong dessert. She said sorry I thought you said banana. I didn?t say that as I was talking about how the mousse had rum and sounded good. We were going to stiff her on the tip but I know the tip is shared with the bellboy, bus boy. I'm not going to stiff them because this waitress was incompetent and rude. My friend complained to the hostess before leaving and her response was ""sorry it's restaurant week."" WHAT THE HELL DOES RESTAURANT WEEK HAVE TO DO WITH BAD SERVICE? This is the time you should be the best so you can bring in repeat customers. Another woman overheard my friend complaining and she interjected and asked what happened. This was an African American woman, older, about 5'5 or so in a denim shirt. My friend informed her how we felt rushed and the service was bad. This woman apologized said she wished she had known earlier but would talk to the waitress. My friend said I didn't stiff her on the tip although I was going to only because I know other people get paid out of that. So bottom line I won't be going back if you feel the need to be rude when I am paying with my hard earned money and the food isn't even that great. Mediocre at best. Their loss because we could have brought them a lot of good business. If you like mediocre food and bad service then go to this place. more

Excellent Food, Service, & Atmosphere 8/27/2009

Took my husband to T Bar for his 31st birthday. He was looking for a good steak and I chose the place by the menu. Being a vegetarian, it's hard to find a steakhouse to eat at, and T Bar gave me options to chose from as well as my husband plenty of steak options. The food was amazing, from the bread basket, to the beet and goat cheese salad, to the vegetarian risotto. My husband had the iceberg salad that was humongous, the 8 oz filet, and baked potato trimmed out with bacon bits, sour cream and chives. He ate each last drop. Pros: Great attention to detail Cons: loud more

Good for groups 7/21/2009

I was there for drinks and Menager made us stay for dinner. Very happy we did. Food was more then we expected as we where ashored. Large portions and amaizing taste. Service was great. Big group like ours hard to please but the waitres had no problem with the change we made thru dinner. Desserts where out of this world. Interesting croud. Pros: Nice energy more

AMAZING PLACE FOR EATING 5/9/2009

With great interior design, and fabulous furnishing, T-bar is an automatic attention grabber. In addition to it being constantly filled with a hip crowd, and having an amazing look to it, the food is the best yet. High quality meats cooked to perfection are brought out to you still sizzling from the kitchen and are the taste makes your taste buds go crazy. Even from the first cut as your knife pulls through the tender meat as if its butter you can tell this steak house is different. I highly recommend it and its the best food i have ever tasted. Pros: BEST MEAT AND FISH EVER!! Cons: NONE! more

fancy restaurant 11/13/2008

My favorite fancy restaurant in the city. I always say I'm going to get something different but I can never do it. When you find an awesome steak, you don' t want to pass it up in favor of trying some potentially bland hunk of meat. I've tried my companions meals and they are always good but nothing is as perfect as that filet they have. Salads are awesome-great flair, presentation, use of fresh ingredients. The only low point is that I'm not rich enough to go more often and I've never really had a great dessert there. The interior is beautiful, I love the lighting. Service has never been anything but great. Pros: food, interior Cons: dessert more

worst place on upper east side 7/9/2008

I went here for dinner last night with my husband and it was the worst place I had been in a long time. The hostess was the rudest human being I have come in contact with in a restaurant. Our server was not much better. The steaks were grossly overpriced for what you got. My pork chop was overcooked and it took nearly a half hour for them to attempt to correct the problem, while my husband decided to stick with his bloody T Bone. The creamed spinach was too creamy and the mashed potatoes were terribly underwhelming. The service was slow; no one seemed to be able to get it together. I waited for the manager to apologize, although she seemed caught up in her own conversation with her friends or the nasty hostess. I spoke with my friends who had been to T Bar and the vast majority were disappointed and would not return. Pros: I never have to come back Cons: too many to list more

I've had better 7/5/2008

My friends wanted to check this place out for Restaurant Week over the winter and ended up highly disappointed. Three us us ordered a-la-carte and the rest of us ordered from the dinner prix fix menu, which was not impressive at all. The waitress forgot about our drinks; we had to remind her twice to bring everyone's drinks out, as well as an extra plate setting. If I'm paying $15 for cocktails and wine, I expect it to be delivered without attitude. The steak was OK, I much prefer Ruth Chris' Steakhouse, and the dessert seemed like it was made by first graders during a science experiment- my chocolate mousse came out plain, undecorated in a bowl, like someone just slathered it in there and tried to pass it off as dessert. It's not worth the money; there are so many better places so please do your research before coming here for Restaurant Week Summer 08 or a special occasion. Pros: appetizers Cons: ambiance, service, dessert, price more

Cool upscale bar atmoshere with great steaks 4/29/2008

I took my wife there for our anniversary and was a little nervous that maybe we were under dressed and the somewhat loud music around the bar may not have been the best pick. All of that changed once we were seated in the back area. The food was excellent the sevrice was great. (Another reviewer recommended that I ask for the quieter section and I was glad I did). Though, for anyone going I'd recommend a dress for the ladies and a sports coats for the guys. Not being from NY, I didn't really think about the sports coat. Pros: Food was excellent Cons: Front dinning room was a little loud for me. more

Finally.... 2/28/2008

There is a suitable steakhouse on the UES. The vibe is loungy, the service is EXCELLENT and ATTENTIVE, the steak was perfect and the wine was delicious. I have found my new neighborhood favorite! more

I took a chance meeting my friends at the place we are having the dinner at. We started in the lounge because we had no reservation thinking the place just open. Thay were packed and everyone was so nice to us. After short time we were seated in the dining room. Food was exelent I was happy we waited for table it was worth it. New York doesnt wait but for this he might stop for a sec more

best new neighborhood hotspot 10/3/2007

great addition to the neighborhood. it replaced an old tired spot. bar/lounge area was packed with young professionals. finally a bar in the neighborhood that doesn't focus on the college or sports crowd. you can have great drinks and actually have a conversation. more

Amazing steaks! 10/2/2007

Went for my birthday dinner and was more than pleasantly surprised. The raw oysters were delicious and the t-bone steak was amazing. I've tried many NY steak houses with Ruth's Chris being my favorite so far and this was a close second. Was a bit nervous about trying a reinvented retaurant with new cuisine but I'm glad I gave it a shot because it was wonderful! Highly recommended. more

Upper East Delight 1/28/2007

After a trip to the Whitney (fairly close to Lenox Room) for a Picasso exhibition, we (my museum/dinner/party buddy and I) arrived on time for our reservation, but were asked to wait a while at the bar 'til a table freed up (probably about 15 minutes)...while we waited, we both enjoyed a glass of white wine (a pinot grigio for me and something that wasn't a pinot grigio for her (sorry, I don't know my wines). Pros: Attentive staff. Cons: Narrow spacing between tables in particular section. May need to wait at bar before being seated. more

Nice neighborhood place 10/6/2006

Very nice neighborhood spot. Great for a date. Very pretty decor with candles everywhere and red walls. Food is nothing special, the menu is average at best. Fried calamari and pizza, and a pasta dish w/ duck ragout. Salad w/ beets and blue cheese, nothing special. Service was nice, and not expensive. A good place to have a drink and watch a baseball playoff game at the bar (tonight! Go METS!). Not worth seeking out, but if you live on the upper East side, a place worth checking out. Pros: Very pretty decor and very nice service Cons: Menu is a bit lame more

The Lenox Room. Sit, relax, enjoy. 9/15/2006

My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Friday night. The place was crowded, but there was one corner table that we quickly took. I had been in here before for a drink at the smallish front bar and liked the look of the place - a low light, plush, cool comfy-cozy but oddly elegant feel. We treated ourselves to the fried oysters, nicely done with a perfect coating and served over a small bed of wasabi infused seaweed salad in the shell, followed by a very tasty and large fresh beet salad. For an entree we shared the crispy skin Atlantic salmon (yes, I know everyone's crazy about ""wild"" salmon..). They split the portion in the kitchen - actually I think they were two separate filets - which is always appreciated and the fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We also shared a side of brocolli rabe, which was also very good (it's amazing how bad brocolli rabe can be at some places..overcooked & bitter..). Trendy, fun music pumped through the speakers throughout dinner and the place filled up even more as we were leaving. Service was casual but good. With two drinks the tab was $68. more

High Expectations not met 8/16/2005

When invited to dine at the Lenox room by colleagues I was expecting a much more pleasant dining experience than I had received. Although the decadence of the place is very chic and the food and drinks are adequately priced I would not recommend it to anyone. The service was autrocious in fact my order came out wrong and our wine was never repoured throughout the entire dinner, which lasted 3 hours. I felt as if the servers could be a little more personable instead of so conscious of the way they stand....its as if they are in the military! more

Pretty Place, Great Service 8/30/2003

We celebrated a friend's birthday at Lenox Room, and we all had a good time. The food was good, the decor nice, and we had the nicest waiter! He was extra attentive, very friendly and super polite. He made our night there a very enjoyable one. I'd definitely go back again. more

Fair Fare 7/1/2003

The previous 2 reviews giving this restaurant a 10 rating gave me high expectations for Lenox Room, so I was fairly disappointed with my experience. The decor, while trendy and attractive, is generic and reminscent of many others such as Icon and Compass. The food was good, but nothing special - the duck was good but its sauce was a little salty, the sole was fairly mediocre, and the chicken was a little better than a cheap meal at a diner. Appetizers and desserts were so-so.. all in all if someone were to invite me there again i might consider saying yes despite the horrible slow service, but otherwise I won't be back in a hurry. Pros: Trendy decor, Comfy seating Cons: Slow service, Noisy, Tiny Bathroom more
