Suze Rules! 7/30/2010

Just wrote this review for Yelp! and felt compelled to post it here too. My wife and I have had 3 exceptional date nights at Suze. We finally made our way back to for a 3rd visit last Friday. This place is a vital Dallas institution without equal - very unique! The food, service, and ambience are exceptional and a refreshing respite from the usual Dallas chi-chi blah. For appetizers I had the lovash flat bread and my wife had the mussels. Both were superb. For entrees we shared a pepper steak and a soft shell crab that the waiter attentively split and served as an impromptu surf & turf. He also did an excellent job of assisting me with the wine list and suggested a wine he described as ""the best value on the list."" It was an Italian selection priced at $59. Again, a great suggestion which I otherwise would not have had. We will be back soon.\r \r -John\r \r Pros: Exceptional Food, service and ambience. Cons: none. more

An all time favorite 1/17/2010

If I lived in Dallas I would eat here more. But I have only got to go here twice. Both time it was awesome. The first time the pasta was heavenly the second time I ordered the lamb and was not disapointed. I think the word that comes to mind most about the food here is ""fresh"". Nothing tastes like it came in off a big truck that is going to drop the same box off at the restraunt down the street.Sayklay Salad!!! OMG so tasty it defys description it is sparkely and jummpy and swirly goodness, And Lavosh Pizza just skip the cracker and scoop the yummy into your mouth!!!\r The service makes you feel specail and is friendly. Though the second time we went were we sat was too dark to read the menu! But it may have been a fluke time of night thing. LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!! Cons: a bit dark more

Exceptional Cuisine with friendly service 12/7/2009

I have been hearing about Suze for years but finally visited with friends in early November and again 2 weeks later. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and service for this strip mall gem. The food was exceptional, as was the wine list. We were pleased with the pricing and variety. Each time I chose a dish from the specials and each time I was blown away. Our waitress guided me easily through the menu and the wine list, suggesting an elegant and reasonably priced pairing each time. I will be back soon. Thanks again for the great experience! I definitely recommend Suze to all!\r \r -Brad Pros: Food and Service more

Disappointed by the service we were underwhelmed by the food 3/7/2009

I read the reviews on the website and unfortunately for us, we could not eat the reviews. Not only were disappointed by the service we were underwhelmed by the food. I saw no evidence that anyone was managing the restaurant and my dining experience reflected it. \r The waiter came to take our order his explanation of nightly specials consisted of, ?The specials are listed on the insert of the menu let me know if you have any questions.? He did not explain any menu items to our tables or highlight the nightly specials. \r When our food came to our table we had to participate in a food auction. This is one of my LARGEST ANNOYANCES when dining at a restaurant; I defiantly don?t expect it when I spend over $60 for a meal. \r I have to tell you that I had a better experience eating at Taco Join @ Ross and Peak last week. My food was fresh and hot, the service was outstanding and my bill for 2 was only $13. Needless to say, I won?t be back . more

Treated like Royality 8/17/2008

We made the pilgramage from Round Rock, TX to eat at Suze for some very important reasons. The staff was gracious and attentive. The food was exceptional. There is such an art to blending flavours and textures so that each bite is an amusment park in your mouth. Think of the scene in Ratoullie when the flavour of the food is animated with pops and stars of colours. This is what happens in your mouth with every bite. The portions were very generous. Save room for dessert! My eight year old loved her Angel Hair Pomadoro but exclamied "" I will never order pasta again if there is lamb on the menu!"" A simply magical perfect evening. Pros: Service, food the whole package Cons: small dining room( but is this really a con?) more

Terrible food and slow service 6/22/2008

I visited Suze for the first time this weekend. By the way Lisa Garza presents herself on The Next Food Network Star, I was positive the food and atmosphere of Suze would be sophisticated and elegant. We arrived early for our reservation hoping to grab a quick drink. We did not know they do not have a bar and in fact you can bring your own wine. Our reservation was for 8:15 and we were seated promptly at that time...along with just about every other table in the restaurant. Our server politely explained the specials and we ordered our appetizer. It arrived about 40 minutes later and the waiter never came over to check on us or let us know why it was taking so long. I had the fish special. When I tried to cut into it, I needed to use a knife because it was so tough. I realized it was not done...at all. It was completely raw. I told the waiter I didn't want anything else but he insisted on bringing the dish back. They brough another entree out with a considerably smaller piece of fish on the plate. He also brought out two desserts that were ""on the house"". They were very average...who wants black pepper ice cream? I would've rather he taken the fish off of the bill. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Suze. In a city like Dallas where there are many choices, restaurants only have one chance to make a positive impression. Pros: location, ambience Cons: bad food and service more

Great Neighborhood Restaurant 5/1/2008

We ate at Suze's last Friday evening. We were promptly seated by the warm and friendly staff. Our first courses included the beef carpaccio with avocado and the seared foie gras. Both dishes were excellent. The tender slices of beef with avocado chunks is one of the best preparations in the city. The generous portion of foie gras was perfectly prepared and served with a cherry reduction sauce on a bed of mixed greens. The venison main course was served a rare-plus as requested and was very hearty. The classic pappardelle bolognese was very savory, with large chunks of veal and shaved parmagiano regiano. The service was very attentive. Overall great experience. Pros: Great food and service, friendly long-term staff. more

Delicious! 3/11/2007

My boyfriend and I were visting for the weekend from Houston. We got on CitySearch to try and find a romantic restaurant. After reviewing about 10 others, we decided on Suze. It was Friday at about 5:30 and we were surprised to be able to get a reservation without any attitude from the host on the phone. (Many places get annoyed when you call the same night to try for a reservation). The location was a little offputting, since most restaurants in shopping strips tend not to deliver. But once inside, we forgot all about that. The host was prompt, and willing to accomodate our request to not sit across from each other and a two top, and allowed us to sit next to each other at four top. Much appreciated! I hate having to raise my voice to talk across a table. We ordered the mussels and a caesar for an app, which were both delicious. I ordered the fish special and my boyfriend the venison dish, and they were both absolutely wonderful. My only complaint, our server was almost non-existent. There was actually a period of about 15-20 minutes after we finished our apps in which he seemed to visit every table but ours. All in all though, for a decision on a whim, we really lucked out. Pros: Delicious food, prompt seating, ambiance Cons: Slow service, uncomfortable chairs, across table conversation at two tops more

A Rare Treat 8/10/2006

It was so nice to discover this quaint restarant tucked in our neighborhood. My wife and I have just recently moved to the area and have been to Suze several times. We have been impressed and have enjoyed each visit. The food is spectacular and the waitress we have always had pulls you in with her charming demeanor. She was quick to recognize and remember our favorite wine, appetizer and our names. Nice touch. If looking for a relaxing and romantic experience, Suze delivers. We have had a fabulous experience each and every time. more

Underwhelming 4/13/2006

I don't see what's so great about this place. In our case, it took 3 tries to find a wine on the menu that they actually had in the house. About the same for desserts. The waitperson was somewhere between angry and noncommittal during the course of the evening. The food was good, but for the price there are several places within 5 miles that serve better plates. All in all, we were underwhelmed and won't be back. more

worth the trip 2/16/2006

I went to Suze with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. It was hard to find among the other strip mall offerings...but gems are usually hard to find! The atmosphere was simple and elegant. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive; neither pretentious nor smothering. And the food...oh my goodness. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. I don't know how the chef (Gilbert) manages to find such creative ways to bring out pure and profound tastes in his dishes. We had the Kobe steak carpaccio as an appetizer, followed by venison (for my b-friend) and escolar (fish) for me. We could hardly talk for our gastronomical joy. Perfectly cooked, lively seasoning, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. And then we had this yummy chocolate cake dessert. Not too sweet, not tart. Take your significant other here if you want to spoil them rotten. MAKE SURE you make reservations - the place gets packed. more

Exquisite Dining Without Attitude 9/12/2005

You would never expect to find this incredible restaurant in a strip mall, but there it is. Once inside you forget the mall - service is very friendly, tight space but cozy, and the food is amazing. After many years and changing owners, the quality hasn't changed. Everything I have tried was pure nirvana to my tastebuds, from the appetizers to dessert. Fantastic date restaurant. Impeccible dining without the pomp and circumstance. Pros: exquisite food, service, value Cons: location? more
