good food, reasonably priced, good service 10/23/2009

I have not had a bad meal here and have been dining here regularly, at least once/month, since about 2001. They do need to be a bit more flexible with regard to seating policy, however, there have been times when I arranged to meet friends there when it was not at all busy-- many, many empty tables- yet they refused to seat us until all were present. I can understand that at peak times, but not when the place is practically empty. Pros: see headline Cons: seating policy more

Happy Birthday John. from Jenny Lee Pros: Everything about it is good Cons: ...... more

Wonderful! 5/1/2009

Not on the meenu: Spicy Carlos is to die for! Susan is a close second. Yaki Maki takes at least 20 minutes but it is wonderful: California roll topped with crab and scallop and a cheese topping then broiled until warm. Awesome! Bentos for lunch are really good. I recommend the beef. Miso is good. Edamame is good. Rice is sticky with a hint of vinegar. Perfect sushi spot. My family an I really enjoy it time and time again. Friendly wait staff. Pros: Spicy Carlos, Susan, and Yaki Maki. Cons: Tiny bit expensive more

Special Taste 2/10/2009

I love love love Sushi Sake. I am very excited that they opened another restaraunt downtown called Yu sushi. My favorite thing to order is their Spicy Carlos Roll, it is the best sushi roll that I have ever had. It has a combination of different flavors that make it very unique. It is not on the menu, you have to special order it. I go eat there all the time lunch & dinner, and If I had to choose over any other sushi restaraunt, I would choose Sushi-Sake more

Yeah...really not so good. 1/14/2009

I had high expectations after reading the reviews on this site, but I must say I was sorely disappointed. I arrived prior to the other person in my party and was told that I could not be seated until he arrived. I understand this policy...when a restaurant is busy. However, over half the tables in the restaurant were empty. The host was quite rude about it too. Once I was sat, I noticed that the table was dirty and I had to use my napkin to clean off soy sauce and rice from a previous customer. Pros: decorated nicely Cons: service, food more

Food is yummy! 8/20/2008

The sushi is pretty good! I've only been at lunch time (lunchtime specials). The prices are somewhat high, even at lunch time...but I know the dinner prices are much higher! Pros: Good Sushi! Cons: Pricey! more

Consistently EXCELLENT sushi, good atmosphere, we are hooked 7/30/2008

I LOVE sushi. But good sushi has 'ruined' me, in the sense that if I am in the mood for sushi, I can't just eat cheap sushi and be satisfied. The rice has to be just right, the fish fresh, the seaweed fresh. I have been just about everywhere in town, and Sushi Sake has been consistently excellent. They have never let me down in their quality. I'd recommend Sushi Sake hands down to anyone who loves sushi as much as I do, and to those who want to try it for the first time, alike. Oh-- and the Spicy Carlos, and Spicy Susan rolls are not to be missed (they're also not on the menu)-- they are excellent for those who are new to the sushi experience. Pros: easy parking, excellent sushi, booths, ambiance, good service more

Incredible Sushi for REAL Sushi lovers! 6/8/2008

The fish is the freshest and the rolls are so creative! We had the spicy Carlos Roll- Excellent! The Escolar and Salmon were mouth watering good. I cannot recommend Sushi Sake enough. Even the service was great. We never wanted for anything and were able to take our time and enjoy the entire experience. It may not be for people who go for the California rolls, but if you like real sushi- Sushi Sake is the place to be! Pros: The salmon is the best in town! Cons: There are some things that are not on the menu that are to die for like the Spicy Carlos Roll. Ask your server about what they recommend! more

Not good sushi : ( 5/26/2008

The sushi is not that great in Sushi Sake. We had the California roll and Spider roll there. The sushi rice is great, moist with fine texture. However, the overall taste just wasn?t good. The Spider rolls taste? more

Really good sushi and excellent service 5/5/2008

I really like to sit up at the Sushi bar and chat with this one particular Sushi chef - Agila (sp?). It's not on the menu, but Agila will make us this ""Spicy Susan Roll"" which is just incredible. It's a regular spicy tuna roll with salmon on top and then this Agila's special spicy sauce. We then order a wide variety of both sushi and sushi rolls - some of my favorites are the spicy tuna and the unagi (crispy eel in this delicious sauce). I always get their hot green tea which definitely is hot. I have to pick up my cup using a napkin. Then I top it all off with some of their green tea ice cream! That's what I'm talking about. Pros: Spicy Susan Roll, very good cuts of sushi and excellent service. Cons: A bit pricy for what you get and they need different tea cups which you can pick up with out burning off your hand. more

Best Sushi Place I've had yet in Austin 3/10/2008

Having moved here from San Francisco we were spoiled with delicious Asian cuisine. This place is the closest so far to what we had in California. Very tasty and reasonably priced. Ambiance was very nice and the staff was friendly. So far my favorite sushi in Austin. Pros: Very tasty more

Excellent 1/26/2008

Excellent...good ambiance but a little tired in decor. Bathrooms very nice and clean....does not smell fishy and super fresh . The sake is very reasonable. excellent service casual to business dress. Escolar is very good and salmon very fresh those are my favorite. You can t go wrong w/ the spicy susan. Miso soup my husband loves... Pros: More reasonable than most sush and taste is the same. I wont eat any where else. Cons: Main room could stand a revision on decor but its not bad...its not a dressy place but not too casual. Good date place more

worst customer service 1/15/2008

It was a good sushi restaurant.until recently when we had the worst service we've ever seen. The waitress was rude and impolite even though we ordered a good amount of food. We haven't finished eating yet, but the waitress already took the plates from the table. The food was so-so. Pros: Nothing Cons: Service more

Angel is the Best Sushi Chef in Austin 1/4/2008

Let me start out with a little background. I'm a sushi nut. I like it all cooked, raw, traditional and unusual. I am on a first name basis with my sushi chef in what every town I live in. So I know my sushi. The atmosphere is nice and the severs are courteous, but what makes this place a standout is Angel. Make sure you pull up to the sushi bar and have Angel make you some of his special sushi rolls. He is a creative genius and all around delight to eat with. The fish is fresh and delicious. Tell him what kind of fish you like (when it's not really busy) and he can come up with something to knock your socks off every time. He also does great traditional style sushi as well as spicy concoctions that infuse the Latin and Japanese flavors beautifully. There is always something new to try. I can not comment on anything other than sushi on the menu, because sushi is all I ever eat. Pros: great staff, fresh food, service, good sake selection, apricot mango tini's Cons: sometimes there is a wait more

BEST SUSHI PLACE 12/30/2007

BEST SUSHI PLACE IN TOWN(ON THIS PLANET) Pros: food ,service & courteous staffs Cons: Parking spaces more

Tried everywhere and keep coming back to Sushi Sake 12/8/2007

I eat sushi several times a week. Have eaten here many times, and every time has perfect food and perfect service. We keep trying all the ""hot new places"" to eat sushi around town, and everytime my wife and I say that we should just stick to Sushi Sake. Order the Spicy Susan and Spicy Carlos, they are the best rolls in town, and I really have tried them all. Pros: food, ambience Cons: beer selection more

Moldy sushi and ill-mannered manager 12/4/2007

DO NOT EAT AT SUSHI SAKE. Cons: service more

terrible...worst place 12/4/2007

It was the worst place in Austin. The employees made me feel bad. Please don't waste your money for being treated like a beggar. more

If you're open to new delights, try Shabu Shabu! 3/2/2007

Sushi Sake offers a little known menu selection called Shabu Shabu. It's difficult to find outside of L.A. and San Fransisco, but Sushi Sake hits a home run with their rendition. Shabu Shabu is Japanese for ""Swish swish"", a reference to the motion you use to cook your own thinly sliced beef and veggies (using chopsticks) in a boiling bowl of water. Rarely served the same way twice, it has always been nothing less than superb. Unfortunately they do not serve this dish on weekends. Pros: Shabu Shabu, Cleanliness, Ambience Cons: No Shabu on weekends more
