If not for the food, Surin would have long been out of business. The staff there is absolutely awful right on up to the management but the food makes up for it all. I would say its not the best for a first date simply because of the service but OMG you'll love the food. more

Super Crunch! 4/17/2006

I really like Surin West for a number of reason. They have good sushi and my favorite is Super Crunch. I also love the spicy beef salad for lunch and the nam tok beef for dinner. Both are sour spicy dishes. They have a huge seletion and even have a lot of different desserts, most of them not at all Thai inspired. The service is good, though a little slow when they are busy. The lunch prices are great and the dinner prices are decent as well. more

Great food 3/28/2006

I have been a fan of Surin West ever since my first visit there several years ago. The Thai restaurant has lots of different choices on the menu and I have liked 90% of the ones I have tried. They have plenty of spicy food for people like me who can't get their food hot enough. They also have sushi and a decent desert menu. Overall, one of my favorite places to eat. more

Surin West is conveniently located in the Five Points South district of Birmingham. They serve authentic thai cuisine and have been for over 15 years now. They always have the freshest vegetables and meats. The menu offers a very wide variety of thai cuisine so every customer will be pleased. They are open for lunch-Mon-Fri 11:00 - 2:30, Sat-Sun 11:30 - 2:30 and dinner - Sun-Thu 5:30 - 9:45, Fri-Sat 5:30 - 10:30. They offer a full bar and smoking area. Credit cards are accepted but keep in mind that they do not accept checks. They have a private party room and take out is also available. The service is always very nice and friendly. more

I was a little disappointed 8/29/2005

After rave reviews, I decided to check this place out and I left a little dissapointed. The service was not the best and I did not enjoy what I ate! more

Thai food at its best 8/15/2005

Surin West is a staple restaurant of Birmingham and of South Side. The restaurant serves up wonderful Thai food. The best dishes are the coconut soup, Wing of Angel (glazed chicken stuffed with a shrimp based stuffing), and the Super Crunch sushi. I would highly recommend the Super Crunch for all of the non-sushi people. It has no raw food and everyone who hates the thought of sushi and who tries it ends up loving it. The lunch menu is fairly cheap and offers quick food of the more popular dishes. One con, however, is that their staff is not always the most friendly. Definitely try it out if you haven't. more
