I live out of state. Everytime I come to MN I go out of my way to shop at Surdyk"s. It is hard to explain how good (products & price) you have it in MN. In the DC area your lucky to find Americam cheese, and wine, your prices are unbeliveable! more

Unbelievable Wine Selection, Cigar Shop & Cheese Shop all in one!! 9/26/2005

Surdyks has to be my favorite place in the Twin Cities, after a long day at work. Where else can you walk in and get gourmet cheese, fresh from the wheel, from just about anywhere in the world, wine from a truly knowledgeable & helpful staff, to fit EVERY budget, & cigars, from their wonderful walk in humidor? Surdyks is primarily a wine & liquor store, but its the addition of their gourmet cheese & specialty food store and their cigar selection that truly make them standout above the other mediocre liquor shops around town Their staff is willing to walk you through a wine selection you can be sure to love, and they are great about not pressuring you into a sale you can't afford, but take every budget into consideration. They are very knowledgeable about their products and the nuances of the varieties of wine & liquor they carry, and can always offer an appropriate selection based on your criteria. Additionally Surdyks offers occasional wine tastings that are sure to enrich an xenophiles repertoire. And their frequent sales make trying new things fun. more

Surdyk's 8/27/2005

Surdyk's is one of my favorite wine stores. I have to limit how often I go there, because I don't remember leving with less than 10 bottles of wine, ever. Staff is so helpful, sometimes I wonder how they manage to taste everything and still be able to walk in a straight line :) Sales don't hurt either. Highly recommend. more

This is what a warehouse liquor store should be 8/19/2005

It has rows of delicious liquors. They have tasting every week as well as regular wine sales, liquor sales, even beer sales. They also have unadvertised sales that you have to go to find. I admit I don't use the cheese shop, but I hear it is good too. The owner, Jim Surdyk is approachable as are all the staff. I have built my liquor cabinet on the selections offered at Surdyks and haven't had a complaint yet. Also check their website for coupons. Do not go after drinking or your cart will get really expensive with all the impulse buys. more

Surdyk's - Yes Sir! 8/18/2005

This is a liquor store for all needs. They have regular liquor and wine sales (a few times a year for each) that blow the competition away. The selection of wines, liquors and beers boggles the mind. There is a cheese shop attached that sells a fabulous variety of cheeses, olives, and other appetizer items from around the world. The friendly staff and specialists take suggestions as well. You really can't go wrong with this kind of service. more

High-end moderate prices 8/17/2005

Surdyk’s is the most popular high-end liquor store in the twin cities. It has a great selection of liquor as well as wine. The surprising thing to me is that the prices are really quite good. On average, they are much better than the chain liquor stores. The wine sales also are very good with consistently significant discounts. It has the best Japanese sake selection in the twin cities, though that is not saying much. more

Excellent Offerings, Personal Service 8/16/2005

Surdyks has a giant selection of wine, beer, and spirits (supposedly, they are the largest liquor store in the Midwest). They have occupied a prominent spot in the former Polish immigrent area of North East Minneapolis since the end of the Prohibition Era. For those who actually attempt to pair wine with their food, they have wine consultants on site to give you recommendations on your purchase. For the brew snob crowd, they have a large selection of imported beers. For those moments when only an esoteric, triple-fermented beer handmade by monks in a Belgian monastery will do, Surdyks is a good bet. Connected to the main store through a separate entrance is a gourmet food and cheese shop. It has a very good offering (maybe even the best in the Twin Cities) of imported cheeses. They also sell pate, saucisson, hand cut meats, and basically anything imported and tasty that will send your cholesterol count soaring higher than Ty Cobb’s batting average. more

One of the best Liquor Stores 8/5/2005

It used to be that Surdyk Liquor Store was one of the most expensive. Then they started having annual sales, then seasonal sales and now everytime you turn around it seems like Surdyks is having a sale. This is good for the consumer because they have great selection and outstanding service. If you want to learn while you buy, Surdyks is one of the best choices. When you think wine, think Surdyks. more

Surdyks - perfect for alcohol and cheese 7/29/2005

Surdyks is great for all types of alcohol, from fine wines to cheap ones and everything in between. It is a huge liquor store! They also have a gourmet cheese shop attached to it. The helpful employees will help you select a cheese and even let you taste several. They have a good deli, too. Overall, it's a great place to shop when preparing for a party. more
