Editorial review from Citysearch 11/21/2012

Convenient location and very cheap price for a hotel. I am very happy with their service and the place is very clean. I highly recommend this place for people looking for a perfect and low price hotel. It is like a home away from home. more

verall we loved it and would recommend it. 10/5/2012

We stayed at Mudville Flats for 3 nights in March 2012. We chose it due to the location, the (free) secure parking and because we'd rather stay in small independent places if possible. We were really pleased with our choice and would definitely stay here again.\r \r It's in the East Village and within walking distance of the Gaslamp district, the downtown shopping areas, the baseball stadium and the sea. We used the car to visit Coronado and the zoo but you could easily get around without a car staying here. The owner Mike was there to welcome us and had loads of useful information and tips on good local restaurants and bars. The accommodation itself was great, we had Flat A (on the ground floor) and it was really clean and spacious and had a nice, personalised touch that you just don't get in hotels. Overall we loved it and would recommend it. more

would recommend the Mudville Flats for a great San Diego experience! 10/5/2012

We stayed at the Mudville Flats for 8 nights over New Years Eve 2011. We arrived early on our check-in date and so we took the time we had to check the nearest surroundings. Only a few blocks away you´ll find the famous Gaslamp Quarter, a historic district where you can shop and in our case have breakfast. The flats itself offer a unique experience. They are really cozy and you see the efforts Linda and Mike put into their apartments in every detail. The rooms are clean, the bed is great and the kitchen with all its appliances gives you a great chance to keep your vacation reasonably priced (a supermarket is in walking distance) :). If you need anything during your stay, Linda and Mike help you out wherever they can. We had a perfect time in San Diego and would recommend the Mudville Flats for a great San Diego experience! more

My wife and I stayed at this precious inn last week for six nights. 9/10/2012

My wife and I stayed at this precious inn last week for six nights. The accommodations are superb. The king-sized bed is amazingly comfortable. The ambiance is a nice mix of Craftsman style, baseball memorabilia, and Zen. This is a great combination for Easterners, one artist and one baseball fan, who live in a Craftsman style bungalow with lots of Buddhas. The efficient kitchen allowed an occasional break from restaurant fare. The proprietors, Linda and Mike, are friendly and most helpful. Their enthusiasm for San Diego is contagious. They live on sight and are readily available. The location is walking distance from terrific restaurants. The private parking was definitely an asset. We were easy driving distance for everything we wanted to see including the Zoo, Coronado Island, La Jolla, Torrey Pines and more. Mudville Flats is a short drive to the airport, an added convenience. I had high expectations given the reviews I read. Even those expectations were exceeded. more

We found this awesome place on Trip Advisor and am so thankful we did. This was my first time ever to California and Mudville Flats is the perfect spot to stay if you want to fall in love with San Diego!!! The Flat was perfect--had ALL the comforts of home, the cozy kitchen, the spacious bathroom, the WONDERFULLY comfortable bed and the soothing leather sofa with all the cute lamps!!! Linda was the GREAT!!! She was very informative about each and everything about the room and informed us of all types of places to see/eat and visit. Since we were only there for 2 nights and 1 day--of course we didn't even get to see near as much as we'd like--but that is okay as it gives us a reason to revisit and stay in the heart of San Diego and the warmth and convenience that Mudville Flat offers. San Diego is one hugh playground and one that I dream of coming back to continue playing in again someday in our near future. Thank you Linda and Mike!!!! You are a wonderful people living in a wonderful pa more

Boutique Hotel San Diego CA 5/7/2012

You never know for sure if you are going to be thrilled or disappointed with your choice in lodging until you get there. Mudville Flats was definitely a great surprise. It was clean, attractive, comfortable, and within walking (or easy driving) distance to most everywhere you want to go. The owners are wonderful people and helpful in every way. I will be staying there the next time I visit San Diego! more

Bed and Breakfast San Diego CA 5/7/2012

I stayed for a week in Mudville Flats and enjoyed the room very much and the personal service of the innkeepers. My roommate and I used the kitchen and found it to be very convenient, and even the fold-out couch was very comfortable. The location is very good, and we found the recommendations for restaurants and other services to be very helpful - the innkeepers have excellent taste and know San Diego very well. more

Perfect location and comfortable bed 3/26/2012

Perfect location and comfortable bed,. . . what more can you ask for. My husband and I stayed in "Flat B" for two nights in February. The previous posts are all accurate regarding the amenities, so I won't repeat. Linda met us at the door and provided a very thorough tour of our suite, the house and grounds. If I had to describe our suite in one word, it would be "comfortable". We parked our car in our assigned spot (for free) and didn't see it again until we were ready to leave. Literally everything is within walking distance. This part of San Diego is a high density, urban area where parking is at a premium. We were pleased not to have to deal with it. \r We are both very finicky when it comes to sleeping arrangements, and these were perfect. An extremely comfortable, huge bed, a dark room (after closing blinds and turning off lights), with little street noise at night. Not a complaint, but a word of advise: Flat B has a beautiful, antique claw-foot tub, with very high sides. As a pro more

Wonderful place to stay in downtown San Diego 12/6/2011

I stayed at Mudville Flats for a month. They offer first class amenities - the rooms are really beautifully decorated with a tasteful old-time baseball theme (but it's not overdone.) There is a nice outdoor BBQ and washer and dryer available on site, included in the price. We also had a covered parking spot across the street which is essential downtown! The location, the East Village, was perfect - you are within walking distance of some great bars and restaurants, and it's a short walk to the Gaslamp District, too. The owners are really friendly and helpful as well, and want to make your stay a great one. I would recommend this place to anyone without hesitation! more

We've never found a more restful and convenient stop anywhere! 12/6/2011

My wife, "Mickey" Mantle, recently offered a trip to San Diego to celebrate my eleventh consecutive 60th birthday. Our choice of Mudville Flats was based mostly on the rave reviews displayed on this page by earlier guests .\r Others have extolled the delightful marriage here of 19th century design and ambience with 21st century comfort and convenience at this unique inn, along with the charming bonus, even to Canadians, of the baseball memorabilia. They were spot on.\r Even more pleasing for us, though, was the hospitality and guidance offered by our hosts, Linda and Mike. (Imagine my delight at being greeted at the door on my birthday with a solo H BD greeting, and a bottle of merlot strung to a celabratory balloon!)\r Both Linda and Mike were available 24/7 without ever beingintrusive.Trust me. We've never found a more restful and convenient stop anywhere! more

congenial and restful stop elsewhere! 11/30/2011

My wife treated me to a San Diego trip for my eleventh consecutive 60th birthday, and we picked Mudville Flats based on the reviews you have written earlier. Thank you for those. (The March 10th review was set aside once Linda advised that all had been remedied 8-). Others have extolled the delightful marriage of 19th century design and ambience with 21st century comfort and convenience at this unique inn, along with the charming bonus (even to Canadians) of baseball memorabilia. We concur with all of that. Even more memorable for us, though, was the help and hospitality displayed throughout by our hosts, Linda and Mike. They were available 24/7 (including to rescue us from tardy cab service) without ever being intrusive. Trust me. I doubt that you'll find a more congenial and restful stop elsewhere! more

Downtown Hotel San Diego CA 11/30/2011

We had three nights in Flat D at Mudville, and loved our stay! The flat was furnished really well, with some lovely antiques. The flat was large, and had everything we wanted, it was lovely at the end of the day to come back and sit out on the peaceful balcony. Linda was really helpful, and recommended several places to eat, which were all really good. Situated not too far from the Gaslamp area, we found it an easy walk to all the sights and to the boardwalk to get the ferry over to Coronado. We mentioned that we were going to the airshow at Miramar while we were there, so Mike printed us a map and directions. This was our first trip to San Diego, and we loved it - we will definatley visit again, and stay at Mudville. more

Bed and Breakfast San Diego CA 7/19/2011

As a writer, I seek the unusual: that hidden jewel that will let me experience a city from off the beaten path...yet close enough to the pulse of the city that I can sample its unique wonders.\r \r With its lush, private patio space, replete with wonderful lounging chairs, a shaded deck, tropical plants galore, an easy-to-operate propane grill, Mudville Flats created for me a private place where I could write, read...dream! My husband and I enjoy sampling local restaurants, but sometimes the mood strikes to dine in. With an ample kitchen right in our suite, Mudville Flats provided a change to lap up San iego's fresh organice produce and seafood, slap them on the grill, and presto--enjoy our al fresco dining room for two. \r \r Don't forget, though, that this fabulous accommodation is only steps from some of San Diego's finest eateries, and professional hosts Linda and Mike have stocked an antique dresser with menus, sightseeing tips...and their cell numbers, just in case you need more info more

Bed and Breakfast 7/19/2011

We recently spent three nights at Mudville Flats and absolutely enjoyed our stay. The place was very clean and charming. It seems to be an older home that has been beautifully renovated. The bed is simply the best, very high end. The amenities in bathroom, towels, etc. also very high end. The owner Linda and Mike were both very helpful and yet not in our space at all, they recommended some great spots to eat, all of which we enjoyed. Great location too, we could walk to lots of places for shopping, sightseeing and many restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay, our only regret is that we didn't book it longer as we were at another place in San Diego for another four nights which we were very disappointed in.\r We would certainly love to return to Mudville Flats and have already highly recommended this place to our friends and family. more
