The Sundae Cafe is located in a little strip shopping center, right next to a gas station. Get over it. While it definitely serves up hearty portions of down-home grub, the guys that run it went to culinary school, so there is always a distinctive touch. It's for real.
During the day they serve a sandwich based menu & have an excellent ice cream selection. The Rueben & Philly Cheesesteak have become my golden standards, and have not been beat in the 3 years I have lived here. The crabcake sandwich is also hard to beat - you get twice as much as you would in an appetizer of the same price anywhere else. Daily lunch specails are a huge local favorite and often run out.
At night they pull out all the stops and despite the casual interior, have excellent cuisine. All sorts of interesting combinations are centered around local specialties. They also have an excellent wine selection.
Next time you are out on the Islands, give it a try. It's also totally worth the drive from Savannah.
