Simply put, having SUBA Pharmacy in my life is like having another family doctor around the corner. Mr. Suba knows and remembers the medication history of each customer and shares his wealth of pharmaceutical scholarship with assurance and accuracy. I would never go anywhere else and I would never take a prescription without first asking him about it within the context of my medical history. Some other reviews here remark on the store being crowded or sometimes late with deliveries, but in my experience that is because so many people know it is the best pharmacy they will ever encounter and flock to it, part of the price you pay for going to the best. It is well worth waiting for the personalized care one receives, something not found in any chain anywhere. more

Suba Pharmacy is a family-owned and very conveniently located pharmacy on Broadway between 105th and 104th. Tiny (and perhaps a little dusty in areas) it has an extensive stock of homeopathic wellness items and vitamins. Despite a review here that opines the prices are high, my experience is that the prescriptions themselves are filled at surprisingly and pleasantly low prices. Mr. Suba himself is usually the pharmacist and a very friendly fellow. Service has been excellent in my own experience, and prescriptions are filled quickly, I won't go anywhere else to have them filled now. Note: most insurance companies are requiring that their clients fill their prescriptions via mail order bulk rather than in pharmacies, creating a significant threat to small business pharmacies like this one. Be sure to sign the petition on Suba's counter asking for legislation allowing people to fill their prescriptions in pharmacies instead if they want.. more

I have been going to suba for as long as I can remember. They have their pro's and their cons. I love that they are a neighborhood store and it definitely gives that vibe. Everyone in the store knows your name and they can be very friendly. I think Mr. Suba is a phenominal man and helps a lot. I had incidents with the pharmacy when Mr. Suba was not around. The younger guy gave me a hard time for a prescription and was charging me full price though I have medical coverage. I asked him to run it through the computer and kept telling me that he already had and the price was still at original price. I called my insurance and they stated the the pharmacy never ran any claims. This happened four times already. Like I said it has its ups and downs and I do agree their prices are a bit over priced. more

I'm very grateful that Suba Pharmacy is still in this neighborhood. They have gone to bat for me and my family on multiple occasions and have been extremely helpful, knowledgeable and, at times, a lifesaver. Several folks have written very negative things about Suba. I can understand why some may be dismayed at the interior and the small size. It is not a brightly lit faceless chain drug store-- but I am grateful for that. I prefer Suba 100 times to the Rite Aids of this town....and that is because they WILL go to bat for you and do what is needed WHEN needed. Try that at duane reade. Yes, there have been confusions and frustrations at times-- but they have ALWYS made it up to me and done the right thing. And they carry items that are very difficult to find in other shops-- hello,compounding! surgitube! If they don't have it they will get it and call you. So...for those who had a bad shake, I'd suggest trying it out again and actually talking to Mr. Suba about the previous bad experience. I honestly feel he is always trying to make this shop better and more responsive to the neighborhood. After all00 we are the ones that fought to keep him in that shop years ago and shut down the CVS. Over the years, I've had to go to Suba for medical equipment and I've been sold shoddy, overpriced product. I've gone because it's close and it's hard to find medical supply stores in the area. I once bought a peak-flow meter that prompted my doctor to say - I didn't even know they still made those! Also, they're not helpful! At all! I don't know who's had these wonderful experiences because whenever I go, I have to practically beg someone to help me pick out what I need. The pharmacist, who I think is Mr. Suba, doesn't like to answer questions, either. I like the idea of an independent pharmacy, but this one isn't much good. (I started this review as a comment to a previous reviewer and had to repost here due to going over the character limit of 500. Sorry for redundancy.) What a peculiar review. Why would someone go out of their way to directly praise the supposed merits of corporate chain stores (""...enjoy the websites and automated phone services that the chains offer"") and unfairly characterize the bustle of Suba's atmosphere as ""disorganized""? In all of the ten years I've been a customer, I've never once been given the wrong medication and the wait time is between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the traffic. Their records are meticulous and the pharmacists are far more alert, personable, and knowledgeable than any of the chain stores in the neighborhood. Suba also charges at least 30% less than its competitors and allows its regular customers to carry a balance. This is a wonderful allowance for people like me who don't have health coverage and need to pay out of pocket for expensive drugs. I don't know how many times they've saved me from an asthma attack when I was having a tight month and couldn't cover my Singulair and Advair scripts. How many Duane Reades or Rite Aids would do this? Zero. Why? Because they are run by corporate policies. Suba, on the other hand, is run by a few caring and hardworking people whose values transcend the bottom line. I've never been to a more disorganized pharmacy than Suba. If you like the feeling of returning to the 1940s, when every neighborhood had stores like this, you may like Suba. Otherwise go to a chain. Many people work at Suba, but each seems to do only one thing. Mr. Suba is the only person who knows what's going on, and everyone standing in the crowd at the counter - there's always a crowd - is trying to get his attention. Suba never had a prescription ready when I came to pick it up. (It was always ""Come back in 20 minutes"" and even then I had to wait.) They gave me someone else's prescription and someone else my prescription. (Someone I knew, actually, who I didn't appreciate seeing what I was taking.) Lots of people consider chain stores a blight. If you're one of them, go to Suba. If not, enjoy the websites and automated phone services that the chains offer. Pros: Pro: The last independent pharmacy in the 'hood. Suba is a tiny, beaten-up looking pharmacy that's easy to overlook. The kind of place where you can't imagine anyone under the age of 70 would frequent. And its surrounded on all sides by gargantuan Duane Reades and Rite-Aids. But oh my god, thank god for this pharmacy. The pharmacist actually knows your name even if you've been there just a couple of times, and he does everything himself, and really efficiently. Contrast this with Duane Reade's surly, slow, totally apathetic and mentally-out-to-lunch workers. I am always worried that this place is going to go out of business, seeing how the neighborhood is going. more
