Best

Don't let the neon sign fool you; this place had really good ambiance & amazing margaritas. The bartenders have worked at this bar/restaurant for over two decades and they know so...

Worst

I'm a little surprised by all of the negative reviews. Is it because this retaurant is located in the downtown tourist district, so everyone expects an unforgettable dining exper...

SuCasa History 8/10/2003

SuCasa has been in business at the same location for at least 35 years, owned by Ike Sewell, who died a few years ago. Quality always came first, with margaritas made from freshly squeezed lime juice w and discarded and replaced every three hours. The ingredients for all the food served was the best available. On a recent visit I found the same policy in practice at the bar, but the cordiality of the place as I had known it was not in evidence. Ike hailed from Texas, and the type of food is authentic TexMex. It was as I remembered it to be, though the service and presentation were not. The place needs stronger supervison and leadership to live up to its long standing reputation. Pros: location, quality of food, ambience Cons: staff seems lethargic, service needs tweekin, update menu more

not in mi casa 2/13/2003

The food selection was poor, food tasted generic, and service was slow (so was the restaurant) and not very friendly. There grande margarita was served in a brandy snifter (a small glass). I would hate to see their small margarita (does it come in a shot glass??). The food was way overpriced. Won't be eating there ever again. more

su casa= su disastra 7/31/2002

Su Casa was possibly the worst luncheon experience I've had since moving to Chicago. An inauthentic tourist trap, this restaurant is not worth trying. From poor service to even poorer food and ambiance, Su Casa is nothing more than inauthentic mexican food that any American could prepare with more flavor in their own kitchen. Pros: cheap, convenient location Cons: bad food, poor service more

Better during the week 7/28/2002

Went for lunch on a Thursday and had a wonderful experience. This place is owned by the Pizzeria Uno people, so it should be top-quality, and it was. But lunch on Saturday was awful. Maybe not awful, but not the great meal we had on Thursday that inspired us to bring a friend back two days later. It was a completely different staff in the kitchen, different servers, different everything. If you've written one of these other reviews, or have qualms about going to Su Casa, try to do it M-F and see if it's not much better than you're being led to believe. more

Overpriced Trite 7/28/2002

The food is overpriced trite. I did not order anything more expensive than the chicken salad, however iceberg lettuce and a chicken breast does not a chicken salad make. I don't mind paying for quality, however the small appetizers, expensive beers and boring salads would keep me from ever getting a more expensive meal here ever. Give me the amount I spent on my bill and I could make a gormet meal to feed four. Cons: expensive, bland, bad service more

uninspired mexican food 7/16/2002

I'm a little surprised by all of the negative reviews. Is it because this retaurant is located in the downtown tourist district, so everyone expects an unforgettable dining experience?? Yes, it's expensive for mexican food, but remember that you're in downtown Chicago. The bottom line is that it's a very average mexican restaurant. Pros: average food Cons: average food, noisy atmosphere, difficult parking more

Taco Bell would be a better choice. 5/28/2002

There is almost nothing to redeem this place. The margaritas are tiny and overpriced (even for downtown Chicago.) The service was poor and the food even worse. Chips: thick and untasty. Salsa: thin and watery. Appetizers: small portions and overcooked. Main courses: fair at best. Service: slow, rude and generally unpleasant. more
