Attending classes here is often the highlight of my week. 11/18/2009

I started taking pilates and belly dance group classes with Valerie Rushmere over the summer, just to keep myself active because I don't work as much in the summer months (ahem: couch potato weight-gain). But now, I'm hooked. Attending classes here is often the highlight of my week. I don't think I'd have gotten hooked if Valerie wasn't such an awesome instructor. She's really good at looking at what I'm doing with my body, finding the trouble spots, and tweaking my movement and alignment for the better. I've also started doing private pilates sessions with Valerie, which has worked wonders for my alignment (which I'd never even thought about before) and posture. Simply by learning how to better align my legs, I've noticed that my knees don't hurt as much, and they rarely do that popping thing anymore - a side benefit I hadn't even expected. The work I do in her classes, both belly dance and pilates, makes me feel so good, and has really changed my perspective on my body. I feel stronger, more empowered, more self-aware. I've even noticed my stomach getting a bit flatter - another side benefit on which I hadn't been counting! Pros: personal attention, clean bathrooms, fun more

Great Personalized Yoga Classes!!! 1/29/2009

I love studio 1831?s cozy, intimate atmosphere. The first class I attended was taught by Valerie Rushmere, a really experienced instructor. She emphasized correct alignment and how to transition safely from one pose to another. The classes were typically small so there was a lot of individual attention and the people there were very friendly and welcoming. Pros: very warm, friendly environment Cons: N/A more

yoga, pilates, belly dance 6/9/2007

Are you a bit overweight and/or out of shape? I've had many yoga and fitness instructors over the years. Valerie stands out amongst them. She is patient, always careful to protect your body from strain, very focused on alignment. I'm a little bit heavy - and I have found at Studio 1831 the two things that are most important to me are: I feel comfortable in the classes and the exercises are modified for my abilities. At Studio 1831, you truly work to your own abilities. It is just plain wonderful! Pros: safety, supportive atmosphere, everyone is comfortable Cons: parking can be a challenge more
