Donna is by far the best colorist anywhere! She foils my hair and it always looks great! I have been going to her after having an awful experience. She corrected my color and now I have healthy looking hair. She knows her stuff! Pros: Best colorist around! Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

I am from Newton and I came to Donna in Swampscott after meeting a women in the North end with the coolest short haircut. The women told me she travels to Swampscott to get her hair cut. I asked her why she went to Swampscott and she told me that before going to Donna she was spending over $200.00 for a cut. She had been to LA ,NYC, and Boston. She explained that it was never really amazing either! The women in the store gave me Donna's card and the rest is history. Donna is pure talent and there is nothing she does not do well. Her hands are like magic. She quoted laughing that ""the spirits guide her"" and that she enters into a different state of consciousness. She explained it was like a runner, dancer or doing yoga. ""It is a natural high"" Donna is creative in many ways...she told me she also dances and is very into music and the mountains. I enjoyed her enthusiasm for life and for her graciousness! I have always gone to the best hairstylist as I moved here from Beverly Hills. I went to Boston several times thinking Newbury Street... not happy after trying several top stylist. I saw a women in the supermarket with a spectacular cut and color. She highly recommended Donna. I was leery but she fit me in for a consultation. She seemed confidence and professional. I felt we covered all the bases and we talked as if I had known her for years. I was still nervous about trying yet another stylist. I have always gone to men hairdressers so a women was a bit different for me. I brought in a photo in a magazine of a celebrity hairstyle. Donna studied the picture and we talked about the color. As she studied my face, bone structure and coloring we decided together what would be best suited for me. After the cut and color I was shocked! I have never loved my hair...ever...like I do now! I decided to followed the advice of the reviews about Donna. If you need an amazing cut and color she is the absolute best stylist I have ever been to. I went to see her for a highlight but I got so much more than that! Donna looked at my hair and had some great suggestions, she said that is was very dry and bleached out looking. My natural hair color is very dark and I had 2"" black roots(YUK)! She first did something miraculous to my dark roots in a mater of 10 minutes. She blew dry my hair and cutomers were coming up to me and saying they loved my highlights! It looked amazing! I did not even have highlighs yet!!Donna then decided to give me what she called a flash foil. At this point I was totally in her hands. She put some foils in and then gave me a gloss and a tiny trim. She said she would just skim the ends. I was trying to ler my hair grow. Donna was not scissor crazy! After that she put some organic oil from Morroco in my hair. It was not to be believed when she blew dry it out. I really looked amazing! My hair was totally restored. It had shine and was silky smoth. I still can't believe it is my hair. Donna is a real artist and a great find for me! Nice staff too! AWEFUL!!!!! I Cant believe all these good reviews! I went there,spent 6 hours in the chair and came out with MY friends telling me it looks like I tried to color it myself. These reviews must be fake, I've talked to three people since my appointement there and they have given me in detail their bad experience. I went to Donna because I was in serious need for a change. My gray was starting to show and with my light skin I lfelt like an old hag. My hair just below my collar. I had no idea what I wanted. I brought in a few pictures of some haircuts I think I liked, but I have no idea if they were right for me. After reading the reviews online about Donna, I knew I had to check her out. All I can say is 'WOW'! Not only is she spunky and adorable..her talent is unmeasurable! Donna transformed my dry, unruly overprocessed thick hair and turned it into a completely different head of hair..right before my eyes! I have been a client of Donna's for 14 years. My hair is thinning and I am very pleased with the way she cuts. I know that she told me that she has taken advanced training for men and women with thinning hair. Somehow ,she makes my hair look thicker. I went to someone else on Newbury street once, as I work in Boston, it was a good cut but nothing like what I get from Donna. She takes her time and never does she rush you. Since I have been going to Strands I feel really comfortable there. I read my newspaper and have a glass of wine. After a long day at work it feels good to relax.
