good food, hokey set up 4/9/2006

It's sort of a grocery store, but it's not like any other supermarket you've been to. The place is set up like a maze, which is kind of annoying. If all you want is some tomatoes, for instance, you can't just go to the section. You have to navigate the place and then find your way out. If time is not an issue, then the place can be great. There is a bakery, coffee shop, seafood, and hot foods section in addition to a florist. In the hot foods area, there is a salad bar, a food bar to get take-out items - price is per pound and the cuisine includes Chinese, Italian, American. There is also a counter to buy fried foods by the pound - chicken, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, broccoli bites, etc. It's great if you don't know exactly what you want to eat because chances are you will like something that is available. The prepared foods are alright, no better or worse than fast food. For children, the place is an experience. There is a little zoo outside... and let's just say that inside is full of surprises when you push the buttons. more

Little expensive.. but a good store 10/20/2005

I found this store to be expensive .. but they do carry number of unique items. I like the look of the store and their cottage cheese is very good. Their dairy products are worth mentioning. They carry a lot of organic stuff too. Check out the small farm they have outside the store. The kids love it as they get to see ducks, cow, sheep hen and turkeys. more

FUN PLACE TO SHOP 9/8/2005

THIS PLACE IS A LOT OF FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY TO SHOP. THERE IS A SMALL PETTING ZOO OUTSIDE IN WARMER WEATHER. YOU CAN GRAB A BITE TO EAT AT THE "HO-DOWN" OR VISIT THEIR LARGE GARDEN CENTER. INSIDE THE STORE THERE ARE MANY ANIMATED DISPLAYS FOR THE KIDS TO PLAY WITH. OFTEN HAVE SAMPLES OUT TO TRY. MANY FOOD ITEMS ARE UNIQUE TO STEW'S AND I FIND THE FOOD IS ALWAYS FRESH WHETHER IT IS FROM THE BAKERY, DELI, PRODUCE, DAIRY PRODUCTS OR SHELVED ITEMS. THEY HAVE A HOT BAR WHERE YOU CAN PURCHASE HOT MEALS ALREADY PREPARED. PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE. YOU CAN GRAB A HOT CUP OF COFFEE OR AN ICE CREAM AT EITHER STATION ON YOUR WAY OUT. THERE IS A LOT OF PARKING. I WOULD AVOID SATURDAY SHOPPING BECAUSE IT IS A MAD HOUSE! more

WOW...cheesy, I know, but I couldn't resist 8/21/2005

Though Zoo Leonard's is sometimes more fitting a title, there's a reason so many people go there. The store is just a great place to shop. Naturally, they have everything under the rainbow. I especially like their cheese cakes, cookies, and hot foods though. They're almost always freshly made that day....though I suppose that has more to do with the amount of traffic they have there than anything else. Still, fresh is fresh. Oh, and of course the service. Everyone seems alive, not a mindless drone...If you go here, don't expect to spend much under $100, though. The place is just too big. more

has selection 8/20/2005

The quality and selection at Stew Leonards is better than at any other supermarket. The fruits and vegetables are always fresh and there is a great variety of baked goods at the entrance. The layout of the store is interesting, kind of like a maze, but it’s not hard to get to the registers even if you’re only looking for one thing. more

the best grocery store ever 8/20/2005

This place is fantastic. Although the store is a bit big and intimidating, it doesn't seem so because of the maze like setup of it. They have the freshest fruits and vegetables and the best selection of meats in town. This is also a great place to bring the kids because scattered throughout the store are little push button animated toys that sing and dance for you. The people are alwasy helpful and very courteous. They mission statement of the customer is always right definately shows. more

You HAVE to check it out 7/15/2005

If you're in Danbury, you cannot leave without seeing Stews. The "world's largest dairy store' has everything - including characters (the cow) walking around as well as a free pettign zoo outside, which is great for the kids. They make their own icecream, which is great, and although they sell a lot of prepackaged stuff - a good deal of their products are made in the store. Also a good place to take field trips with girl scouts, etc. more
