Best

I absolutely love this place. The restaurant is famous for their Gumbo and Smokey Fried chicken which are both amazing but my personal favorite is the Shrimp N'awlins! It is sooo...

Worst

i dont feel bad now...i went to stevies a month ago, the place was empty, few at the bar....ordered my usual, it was fine..had a nice time....in and out in a hour........NOW....we...

WORST SERVICE IN THE WORLD!!!!!!! NOT EVEN WORTH ONE STAR. 12/26/2008

I don't think this place even deserves one star. They charge a cover for eating....which is ridiculous especially if you're going w/a group of four or five people. ...in addition, the music is waaaaay too loud. The food arrived cold.....and the service was probably the worst I've ever had....and I'm including some of the worst places in Mexico in that group. This place is the biggest waste of time....money.....food....and music. Patrons beware..... dont go here. Cons: Service...Music cover charge....and the food quality. ...the ownership is rude, just like the waiting staff. more

One of the best Creole Resturaunts in the San Fernando Valley ! 12/18/2008

I was reading all the reviews and when I got to the very end of the page I started to see negative comments in which everyone is entitiled to their opinion but, come on these ppl sound more like they were just mad that they had drove for an hr and a half on an empty stomach and had to pay to listen to a live band. Which is obviously something that they are not used too! Because if you go to BB Kings at City Walk or House of Blues your paying a cover and most likely will be more than 7$.....However Stevies is a wonderful place to go to especially for a great dinner and drinks live music and a classy environment. It has a southern touch which makes you feel right at home ! For anyone who says the food was bad , must mean that your not used to good food. And to complain about the prices ....well I know that I have gone to In & Out, Mc Donalds, Jack In The Box, Etc...and have paid well over 8$ for a combo . So I have no problem paying 8$ to actually sit down listen to live music enjoying a great cocktail & food. Those ppl need to get with the program or stay the hell outta the kitchen...lol.... more

Great Food and Live Music 12/4/2008

I love the food here! Everytime I go...the music is great and isn't over crowded. Fridays are crowded but sundays are great. more

Excessive Fees Forced on Patrons Who Visit During the Weekend - Bad Business for Diners 11/8/2008

I'm going to give this location an average rating. The food is excellent, but they have a business practice that I think is a bit unfair--and what really amounts to a total rip-off.\r \r I've been there several times and have enjoyed the food, but I''ve never gone when they had entertainment. Well, if they have someone singing, everyone at your table is charged a 7.00 cover charge, no matter if you order food or not. We ordered food and drinks and our bill was over 90.00. 35.00 of that was paid as a cover charge. If you walk in and don't see the sign, no one will make mention of it until you get the bill. \r \r First of all, while the singing was great, it was VERY LOUD. You cannot carry on any type of conversation from 9PM until 12:30AM. So not only were we subjected to unwanted singing, we could not have any type of decent conversation and we had to pay 35.00 for it.\r \r I'm a New Orleans native and so I can tell you that their food is good. And in California, it's can be a challenge to find a nice Creole resturant if you aren't one to experiment with new locations. However, we spent money on food and drinks and I felt that having to pay an additional 35.00 was overkill. One of the girls I went with said she'd never come there again because of it.\r \r If I do go, I'd call and check to make sure there are no performances and cover charges (I'm sure that's only during the weekend) I think they need to be reminded that they are a restaurant, not a dance club or bar. If patrons purchase food and drinks, why in the h e double hockey sticks would you then force 7.00 charge per person at the table fee. It left a bad taste in my mouth...pardon the pun.\r \r I won't say I will never go back....but, I will say that I'm going to look into other places to take my friends and family for dinner. Pros: Great authentic Creole and Cajun Food Cons: 7.00 cover fee charged per person...whether your order food or not. more

Stick with the food court at the mall if you can?t hang with the BIG DOG'S 6/2/2008

It was my friends 30th birthday and she wanted to go to Steve?s to celebrate. I went online to read the reviews about the restaurant. Many of which were not pleasant. To my surprise the place was nothing like what I read. The food was absolutely wonderful. There watermelon martini?s are to die for. The owner, cooks, hostess, and waitress were all great! Not to mention the band was off the chain. We had a blast. The prices were in line with the service. If you want good food, service and entertainment, Steve?s is the place. I am a strong believer in; you get what you pay for and I do believe that Steve?s was worth every penny! Stick with the food court at the mall if you can?t hang with the BIG DOG'S. Harold and Belle?s don?t have anything on Steve?s! more

Excellent Place for Good fun and Entertainment 5/22/2008

I have been to Stevie's on two occasions now. The most recent was 5/16 for my bday. I read several of the reviews before deciding to return to Stevie's to celebrate. The reviews I read made me think twice but I decided to go anyway because I really liked the food and entertainment the first time I went. I just have to say that all of the negative reviews are so far from what I experienced on both occassions. I had a reservation for 14 people. When I arrived my table was ready and they were prepared to seat us. Our waitress was so friendly and provided excellent service in a timely manner. No, your food is not rushed out to you but when you go prepared to have a good time, you enjoy the atmosphere and it doesn't matter. You should go prepared to hang out and have a good time, listen to music, laugh and talk. It is not an in and out type of place. The food is so good and worth every penny. The portions are very generous. Stevie was there and he introduced himself to my party. He was very friendly and talked to several customers personally asking them if they were having a good time. The music was very good. I think that most of the people who complain really don't have the money to spend and probably can't afford a classy place like Stevie's. When they get there and see that there is no $5.99 special on the menu they automatically get an attitude about everything. I say this because everyone who posted a negative comment always complained about the prices. The prices are no more expensive than Harold & Belle's. As far as the $7.00 cover charge, if you went to a restaurant first and then to a club then you would spend that amount anyway, it probably just seems like so much because you are paying for everything all at once. I love Stevie's and will continue to patronize this restaurant because of the great food, awesome service and excellent entertainment. more

Cajun Shrimp is the BEST 3/25/2008

I go to Stevies whenever Im in town and always have a great time, the food is excellent and the entertainment is the best. it does take awhile for the food to come out but its well worth the wait. I would suggest that if you come on a friday or saturday, make a reservation because the place gets packed. I was there when Bobby Brown performed with Johnny gill and Macy Gray and we had the best time. I got to meet Bobby Brown and Macy Gray, (they were so nice and friendly) and to see them perform up close and personal was truly a treat. I was there another night a Natalie Cole got on the stage and sang. Stevies is definately a place I look forward to visiting when im in town. more

New Orleans in Encino 3/25/2008

\r OMG! I love this restaurant! I went this past weekend with some friends and we had the best time. The band played all night, we danced and even got on the stage and sang. I had the fried catfish with maccaroni and cheese and greens and it was DDDDDDDD-LISH! I cant wait to go back. a great place to meet people and have a southern experience. more

This place is not the business. Don't waste your time or money. 2/23/2008

I have to say I agree with the majority of people who state that this place is poor quality. You are better off going to the Johnny Rockets across the street. You will get better food and service. I will state 10 reasons for grading this organization with poor quality. \r \r 1.We were charged 7$ to eat (supposedly for the entertainment). \r 2.We were sat at a table with no silver ware or table settings. \r 3.The owner brought out cut out paper table and dirty silver ware 15 minutes after we sat only because we asked. \r 4.After 15 minutes of not having a waitress and no bread we flagged another waitress down because we were tired of waiting on ours. I asked her if she could help us and she had an attitude. \r 5.We finally asked the owner if we could have some bread, water, and clean silver ware.\r 6.15 minutes later (total of 30 minutes) the waitress decided to tiptoe to our table and take our order.\r 7.The food was horrible!! The cornbread tasted like Jiffy. The red beans and rice tasted like dried up pinto beans. The yams tasted like they were straight from the can and the Rice Pilaf tasted like it was from the box. \r 8.The 7$ dollars we paid for entertainment was a waste. The lead singer looked like a broke down version of MC Hammer. Yea I said it the MC himself. The music was so loud that I couldn?t engage in a conversation with my friend sitting across from me. \r 9.We asked the waitress for condiments that she never brought. \r 10.We repeatedly the waitress engaging in conversations with random people at the restaurant and coworkers as she neglected us and forgot to bring what we asked. \r \r So basically I drove an hour and a half for some canned yams, jiffy cornbread, pinto beans and to see a broke down MC Hammer impersonator. I do not recommend this place at all. Save your money stay at home and cook!!! more

Substandard to say the least 2/23/2008

My friends and I arrived at Stevies, after an hour and a half drive, with high expectations, only to leave HIGHLY disappointed. I have never been to a restaurant where they charge patrons to eat, we paid a $7 cover charge, to receive sub-standard service, horrible tasting overpriced food, and dated entertainment. We were left to find our own seating accommodations. Our table was bare, having no silverware, when we did get the paper cut out table setting, our silverware was dirty. Our waitress showed up approximately 30 minutes after we were seated to take our order, and then stopped to have, what appeared to be a personal 5 minute conversation with a guy at the bar, before placing our order. We were given stale French bread and unfiltered tap water to tide us over until our food arrived. When our food finally arrived (30 minutes later) the meat was over seasoned, the canned vegetables were under seasoned, and the cornbread was reminiscent of Jiffy from the box. Our waitress, if you could call her that, failed to respond to our requests, so we tried to flag another waitress and she responded with a very nasty inappropriate attitude. The music was so loud we had to yell at each other in order to be heard, and often times the yelling was fruitless, as we were still unable to hear. After requesting the check, we had to sacrifice another 25-30 minutes of our lives waiting for our waitress to respond. After paying our tab, we were forced to wait once again, for the valet. Stevie only had one valet employed to retrieve cars, thus we had to stand in line in the freezing cold from 12:00am to 12:35 am, waiting for our car (clearly, they need to find this poor valet more help). In short, this is a horrible substandard establishment, which does not place the customer's needs or satisfaction as a priority. Thus, if you care about quality food and service, AVOID Stevie?s, instead, try Coco Palms, Cafe Tu Tu Tango, City Grill, or Derrick?s Jamaican Cuisine, to name a few. Cons: Service, food quality, ambience, entertainment. more

horrible service 2/6/2008

I have never been so insulted in my life. I was going to go to a jam session and have dinner. I read a few reviews first and was a little leary.So..I called....was going to particiapate in the jam session and was told by the band leader I wouldnt have to pay a cover. I dont mind paying 5.00 cover. When I asked abotu it...the owner got on the phone after the moron answering the phone couldnt figure out what to do. He actually yelled at me and called me a cheap a@*hole!!!! This to a prosepective customer that was about to bring 5 paying diners to his place. This guy doesnt deserve to be in business. and by the reveiws on his awful food and deamenaor..we can only hope he wont be for long! Pass it on!!!!!! Cons: horrible attitude more

Bad 1/23/2008

I arrived at 7pm. It was not crowded . waiter toke order. by 8pm still no food and more people was showing up and the Band was setting up to play. by 9pm still no food and the band started playing. finally by 9:30 pm I got my food. So overall, beside that fact it was soooo loud, it took them 2 hours and 30 minutes to get our food. When i got the bill, they had the nerve to charge us extra $7 per person service fee for the band. I felt that I should not have to pay it because of the wait. They should of been happy that i did not leave. I told my friend about this experience there. And he told me the reason why they make you wait because Stevies want you to eat when the band starts playing so that they can charge one a service fee for watching the band. Pros: none Cons: everything more

Not a fan 1/21/2008

For the prices, I would have expected more than paper placemats and napkins. My husband and I love creole food with a passion, but were not impressed with Stevie's. It seems to do really well though so maybe it's just not our taste. Pros: Service was good Cons: Food not that impressive for the prices, no parking more

Thought I Could Eat In Peace With A Take Out Order... THEY EVEN SCREWED THAT ONE UP!!! 1/7/2008

First off, people should know that the food is great (not life changing great), but make sure you prepare yourself for a long night, oh and make sure you don't have a movie or play to go to right after.\r Dinner took FOREVER! I just wanted some Fried Chicken and Seafood Gumbo which took over an hour. After that I said ""fine, we'll just do take out next time.""\r \r Called Stevie's a few weeks later to order take out. They said ""okay it will be ready in 20 minutes."" I get there after 30 minutes and the food is still being prepared.\r \r After learning my lesson, I called again for a pick up order, got to Stevie's after 40 minutes, not only was my food not ready, they took another sweet 30 minutes of convincing me I should order a drink from the bar (their drinks are not cheap either). Turns out the food was ready waiting in the back and it got cold.\r \r Some people will say that the food is worth it but they should give themselves an abortion for going through this misery every time. Oh and beware of the bald bartender, he was pretty cocky and condescending and probably doesn't get half the words people tell him.\r \r An Alternative Fried Chicken place would be Amber's Chicken and Donuts on the corner of Balboa Blvd. and Burbank Blvd.\r \r STAY AWAY FROM STEVIE'S!!! Pros: Food, Hot Waitresses Cons: Everything Else, The Bald Cocky Bartender more

the bomb 1/6/2008

The OWNER is a LOSER! 11/8/2007

Let me say that the food here is good and the waitresses are pretty, even if their service is so-so. But the real problem is the OWNER! We came for lunch and when we were ready to go, went to the valet. But after five minutes, he comes back WITHOUT our car. As it turns out, the owner had blocked us in because he was stopping by to get some food. The valet went to the back to get the owner but came back with his tail between his legs when the owner told him that we had to wait until he was ready to move his car. We were obviously ticked off. The valet went to ask the owner if he could have the keys to move the car and he was again told that we had to wait. FIFTEEN minutes later, we're waiting at our car for this idiot, and needless to say, we had a few choice words for him when he came out to leave. Pros: Food Cons: OWNER, service more

Horrible customer service 10/18/2007

I must share my experience at Stevie's. I was sadly disappointed. I went there to have dinner with a friend approx. 7:00 p.m on a Wednesday night. I was not aware of any entertainment before my arrival. I was asked if I were going to stay for the show which began at 9:00 p.m. I did not know at the time if I were going to stay. My friend and I had a couple of drinks and then ordered our food. We got our food around 8:00 p.m. A waitress stopped by our table to ask us if we were going to stay for the show. We had not even touched our food yet. Again, I told her I didn't know. At 8:15 p.m. I made it a point to let the waitress know that my friend and I decided we would stay and pay for the show since we had a few drinks. We were still in the middle of eating our meal. At 8:30 p.m. the waitress rudely stopped by again and said she needed the money. As you probably know we were annoyed. I told her she was rude and she replied she's just doing her job. If that is how they treat their customers then I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. They need to learn customer service. We felt like criminals as we sat there and ate our food while they watched us like hawks. Pros: food and entertainment Cons: customer service more

Restaurant Secrets 10/5/2007

I apoligize for all those who have had bad service at this restaurant. Please do not fully blame the staff. Place your anger towards the greedy owner, Stephen Perry, and his family. The reason why their prices are high and they demand cover charges is because they want to live like ""Will and Jada"". Thus making their staff and patrons support their ""lifestyle"". \r We are always understaffed because he claims not to have money for payroll. (Not that we get overtime wages that we deserve. Keep in mind we get paid minimum wage and tips at this restaurant are a joke.) Patrons must pay cover charges in order for them to keep up their lease for a MBZ SLK, Range Rover, & etc.\r Note: Don't let Steve know you actually have money cause he will overcharge you. \r The reason why we have a bad reputation for service is because Steve hires upon looks not skills. Also please don't take out your anger towards the staff and their tips because we have to enforce the owners lame policies. We are only doing what we are told in order to keep our job. Cons: Owner more

Good People in a Cozy Setting 9/20/2007

After reading other reviews of Stevies, I went to Stevies with a group of friends without very high expectations. The food was good and hot, served promptly (contrary to other reviews) and the portions were appropriate. After having dinner (about $400 worth), we were approached by two seperate employees and requested to pay in order to stay to watch the group ""Loose Ends"" perform. \r \r Once we were seated, we ordered a bottle of Moet. I guess Stevie didn't expect anyone to purchase bottles and therefore it wasnt chilled until we ordered it. Its obvious that Stevie hasnt properly trained his staff as it pertains to bottle service. The bottle was left on the table with empty champagne glasses. After training the waitress how to properly serve a bottle of Moet, we enjoyed the show. \r \r All in all my experience was a good one however, I feel that Stevie should recognize who spends the most money in his establishment and not hound them to pay an extra $20 on special event nights. \r \r Stevie needs to provide better VIP customer service. Pros: Valet service, good food & drinks, clean establishment Cons: inappropriate bottle service more

Good food and music; sneaky cover charge 5/19/2007

Very good live band, the food was pretty good as well. Service was good, despite it taking a long time for the kitchen to prepare our meal. Unfortunately, we were not happy with the ""cover charge"" added to our bill, especially since we were not told that when we made reservations, or when we were at the restaurant. And I've never heard of a restaurant charging the patrons a cover charge when they have dinner!! Ridiculous! Pros: Good food and music Cons: They sneak the cover charge on your food bill w/out telling you more
