If you're looking for an excellent book store for used Religion books, this is it. If you're looking for science fiction, I laugh at you. Ok, so I was new to the area and didn't...

Disorganized but Great 4/17/2006

Stevens is a great used bookstore that has books from floor to ceiling. the problem being that it has books...from floor to ceiling...in stacks. these stacks can make it difficult to find the boko you are lokoing for, or get down the aisle where that book migth potentially be located. You can often find lots of treasures used book wise at Stevens however. i really enjoy shopping here. more

A huge mess 12/30/2005

Stevens book shop is a huge mess. Steven has very little organization to the shop and often timers books will be stacked to the celing in aisles making it impossible to go down the books and see whats there. he has no real inventory system, so you also have no idea if the book you are looking for is in the store. Steven however works the store regularly and is very helpful, and you can often find some nice collectable books here. more

love this place 8/19/2005

this is truely the best used book store I've ever found. There must be close to one million books here. The books are everywhere ... on shelves, in piles in front of shelves, on tables, in display areas, there are just books everywhere on every conceivable subject. To truely benefit from a visit to Stevens you should be prepared to spend hours digging through stacks of books. This is a store that book lovers & collectors can appreciate. more

expensive but extensive 8/7/2005

The owner of Stevens books is by far the crankiest proprietor in Raleigh. But darn-it! He’s got the best selection you will ever see. A booklover’s delight, his store is filled, and I mean filled with rows and rows and rows of rows of bookshelves, and the books that don’t fit on the shelves are stacked neatly in piles on the floor. Don’t expect any breaks, though. All those books makes him think he can command the highest price in town. For example, I purchased a used copy of Soren Kierkegaard’s Fear & Trembling. The cover price from the 1960s edition was $.95. I got it from Stephen’s for a mere $3.50. Inflation, I suppose. If you’re looking for it, he’s probably got it. But he’ll make sure you know you bought it from him, that’s for sure. more

Religion, religion, religion 7/8/2005

If you're looking for an excellent book store for used Religion books, this is it. If you're looking for science fiction, I laugh at you. Ok, so I was new to the area and didn't know that, but the look I got when I mentioned that their sci. fi. section needed help was . . . priceless, really. Ok, it was only funny in retrospect. Still, a religion major friend of mine swears this is his favorite store ever, with tons of out of print or hard to find books. So, for all of you out there who love reading theology, commentaries, or personal journeys, this is the place for you. I think they also frame and sell artwork. Random, but there you have it. more

Wonderful local store 7/2/2005

So Steven is just a little messy. His aisles are often packed and stacked to the top with books, sometimes so much taht you have no way of tell what is down the aisle. you can complain though, to Steven himself who si often manning the store. This has great old school small bookstore charm, stevens is also a good place to look for rare books or first editions. more
