Unbeleivable view 1/31/2008

Great place, great view I was not expecting much as we worked on a cold night on the board walk of the Hudson River. The staff is so friendly and the seafood stew was hugh, fresh seafood and very filling. Tangerine dressing on my salad was so good and different. Can't wait to go back and sit outside in the warm weather. Pros: river view, great food Cons: a little expensive more

Sloppy waitress, burnt food, laughable decor. 11/17/2007

I must preface this by saying that I have never been compelled to write a review before now, but I was so disappointed with my experience at Steamers Landing that I felt I must inform others who consult this guide before trying out a new spot. I went to Steamer's for the ""Downtown for Dinner 2007"" prix fixe event which was $35 a person. I must note that Delmonico's also participated in this annual event for the same price, to put Delmonico's and Steamer's Landing in the same category (according to the $35 price) is LAUGHABLE. Everything about the experience was shameful- the waitress who was sloppily dressed barely approached our table throughout the meal, relying on her bus boys to provide service. In fact, she tried to bring us desert menus, and I had to inform her that we hadn't yet been brought our entrees. When my entree did arrive, (braised short ribs) IT WAS BURNT TO A CRISP, with some kind of congealed fat/gravy mixture spread accross the top to conceal the fact that it was burnt. Aside from the escargot, which was DELISH, everything about this place sucked. Pros: Escargot Cons: Everything Else! more

Nice view, so-so food 8/2/2005

We went to Steamers Landing based on a lunch recommendation. We were seated immediately and had a nice view of the river. Unfortunately, as we looked at the menu we could see that it was unlikely to be anything exceptional, but we hoped for the best and looked forward to enjoying the meal. We ordered littleneck clams for an appetizer, a salad each and a seafood pizza to share. The clams arrived - 8 small clams for $11. The broth was so full of garlic pieces, parsley and whatever other green stuff was chopped up we had to scrape it off. The broth was very salty as well; we couldn't even enjoy dipping our bread in it. Salads and pizza were okay but not exceptional in any way. Overall a disappointing experience. Go there for the view but don't expect to be impressed with the menu selection (small) or cuisine. Pros: View Cons: stingy portions, uninspired menu more

A transporting experience 11/5/2004

In late September 2004 I dined at Steamers Landing with a few friends for dinner, it was a wonderful experience. The view in incomparible, he staff and owners are warm, welcoming, and make you feel as if you are old friends. The menu is expansive and creative, and has something to please every palette. The foold was great, especially my crabcakes and my husband's steamed mussle, which were served in a huge bowl in a delicious butter, garlic sauce. Great place! Pros: View, Food, Service more

Enjoy the breeze and view 7/18/2003

This is the best place to sit outside and enjoy the parade of people along the esplanade and boats along the river. On a summer night it is so nice to sit on the patio, with the light breezes off the river and the trees overhead. The food is better than okay, and the service is adequate, although the prices are a bit high for what it is. All things considered, however, it's the best dining option in Battery Park City. Pros: great outdoor seating, beautiful sunsets, people-watching Cons: a bit over priced more

unexceptional other than the view. 7/15/2003

The dinner terrace is a lovely place to watch the sunset over Hudson river. The food however does not even attempt to compete with the atmosphere, and is not cheap either (same goes for wines by the glass). Salmon ordered rare arrived virtually dry. Stick with something safe and simple, and enjoy the view. Pros: great view, relaxed atmosphere Cons: expensive, mediocre food more

It was about as average as average gets. 11/18/2002

I went here for dinner with my wife recently and at the end of the evenings, left the restaurant with the feeling that the experience was average at best. It is a relatively small restaurant, crowded with a few too many tables. The food was good, but not good enough to justify the prices. The decor made me feel as though we were in an expensive Red Lobster. There are plenty of better restaurant choices in NYC. Pros: Close to the Ferry Cons: "Red Lobster" decor, small and cramped, average food more
