Best

Great place!...been open for years and always stop by when I'm in the area. Good music and crowd is the usual.

Worst

So lets get realistic. I've been to Stay three times in the past year and its one of those places which gets worse each time you go. I consider the LES to be the dingiest area o...

STAY DRUNK!!! 4/4/2005

If you want strong drinks and hot chicks, go to Stay. This is a great place to "stay" and mingle until it gets too packed. The drinks however are strong, didn't I already mention that?! ;) This is one of those chic spots that look fancy minus the pretentous crowd. The staff is very nice including the security. The music the DJ's play is very loud, almost too loud... so don't expect a quiet 1 on 1 talk with your date. I hear the week nights are more romantic Pros: strong drinks, great music selection, DJ Cons: gets crowded, music's too loud more

STAY BUSY 4/4/2005

The minute I arrived,I was already impressed. The security was polite and not a bunch of meatheads. A did not expect a bar to look that fresh and clean in the lower east side. The long couch was a genius touch. The bartenders were very friendly and fast. It was amazing how they were able to handle the crowd. Overall my friends and I had a blast! Pros: clean space, good music, great staff more

STAY TRENDY 4/4/2005

My girlfriend and I celebrated our birthday this past weekend and we had the best time! Although the place got very crowded by 1am, it's to be expected since it's such a beautiful place in the lower east side. The staff was so helpful with bottle service and the DJ was unbelieveable!! If you're going to do your birthday party there, the management tends to hook you up with drinks, lots of them. *wink* Also, request the chic VIP seating in the back. Pros: Very trendy, Beautiful crowd, Great DJ's Cons: Can get crowded more

Doesn't get better than this in the LES 4/4/2005

I dropped by this past weekend for some great drinks and awesome music. Order the Stay punani, one of their signature drinks that is to die for. (hypnotic, malibu & pinapple) My only complaint is that although the security/bouncer was nice, he told every one to keep the noise down in front of the place since there were neighbors that lived above the bar Pros: sexy vibe, Dj's, furniture Cons: Drinks r too strong, only 1 floor, crowded more

Bad Service, bad atmosphere, bad value 4/2/2005

I recently had a birthday party at Stay. The space (which is narrow to begin with) was extremely crowded and the manager did not reserve the space/tables he promised us. He said that there was nothing he could do because it was so crowded. At the bar in the back they only had 3 types of beer and ran out of one type for the second half of the night. Despite having 2 bartenders, one of them refused to make drinks and would only serve beer so waiting 15 minute for a drink was pretty typical. After being generally uncomfortable for a few hours and getting tired of waiting online for drinks we all left and went to another lounge. Stay is not a good venue for parties and in general the staff was unprofessional and the service was poor. Pros: music Cons: crowded, not trendy, bad crowd more

STAY AWAY! 4/2/2005

This place is just flat out bad. Instead of tables there is just one long booth. The space is uncomfortable and by 11pm you can't move because its so crowded. I went to stay to try a new place on the LES, but I won't return. My advice is STAY AWAY! Pros: none Cons: ugly crowd, too crowded more

Owner Message
  • It may be the 60's retro decor, the diverse mix of DJ-spun tunes, the specialty cocktails, or the cool, attractive downtown crowd which make you stay, but once you arrive, you're going nowhere.

Editorial
  • The Scene
A very subtle sign on its front window makes this nightspot feel discreet--despite its well-traveled Houston Street location. A mod, curvaceous couch lines one wall, '60s-style lounge chairs provide additional seating, and retro-futuristic pendant lamps cast a sexy red glow. The only thing that's missing in this chic space is a snooty attitude; instead, there's a welcoming, inclusive, laid-back vibe.

    The Draw
Thanks to a generous no-cover policy and mainstream-friendly house, hip-hop, and '80s DJs, an unpretentious crowd packs the house on weekends, and full bars at either end of the long, slim space ensure service without much of a wait. The affable staffers deftly pour several popular house cocktails, including the achingly sweet and naughtily named Punani, a blue pina colada served in a martini glass. The bar covers all the bases, with beer, wine, and bottle service available, too.
