Best

Great place!...been open for years and always stop by when I'm in the area. Good music and crowd is the usual.

Worst

So lets get realistic. I've been to Stay three times in the past year and its one of those places which gets worse each time you go. I consider the LES to be the dingiest area o...

Great Spot 11/10/2007

It's a little small but I had a great time there. The dj was playing some great tunes. And it's really cute inside. more

Great to stop by and just hang out 5/21/2007

Stay is a really trendy, sophisticated place to just hang out after work or even have a little get together there. The staff are the nicest I have ever seen (and that's pretty rare these days), they have signature drinks that are really strong... and good :D It's cozy, it's not terribly big but I like that, they have an amazing seating area and the music is always fun. Call them to find out what's going on different nights, I think at one point I went to crave thursdays... which is literally white castle nights! yum! Pros: The staff, the enviornment, specials night Cons: a little small area but that's only if you don't like that. more

Great vibe, extremely friendly and accommodating! 4/29/2007

This past Saturday, some friends and I held an AIDS Walk fundraiser here (dance off style). The owner was extremely accommodating, letting us set up two hours in advance of their normal opening hour (typically 9 p.m.), and bring our group in at 8. He allowed me to guest DJ for the event, and even the real DJ was very accommodating and helpful! The bartender was friendly, everyone made the whole thing very easy, and we raised a lot of money for a very good cause! I would highly recommend STAY to anyone looking for a lounge atmosphere with a great vibe and good music. Pros: Staff Friendliness, Music, Atmosphere more

Very accomodating! 4/16/2007

I just co-hosted a friends 40th birthday party here for 50 guests. We had rented the entire space for ourselves from 8-10pm which was definitely the way to go (paying per person for open bar). We brought our own food in & the place was very accomodating-- opening up an hour early for us to set up & decorate & accept our food deliveries. The owner & managers remained on site the whole time and were very helpful and friendly. The DJ was great & took our requests. Everyone had a really terrific time. Although we did have the space 'privately' for 2 hours, it seemed like other outsiders started streaming in around 9:40pm or so. By 10pm it was really crowded and most of my guests opted to leave by 11pm. I would definitely recommend STAY for a private event. Pros: Fun atmosphere, lots of seating Cons: super crowded by 10pm more

Good birthday spot 1/30/2007

I had my birthday here last weekend. I had about 15 people, and we reserved the VIP area in the back (a raised area by the DJ, with a table and room for dancing). If you are coming here with a group, I definitely recommend reserving this area - otherwise you will be really crowded. The place was packed after midnight. You can reserve the VIP area by buying only one bottle for about $200 - not bad for NYC. The music was a good mix of hip-hop, and we danced all night. The staff here is great, including the bouncers - everyone was friendly throughout, and personally greeted me when I arrived. I would definitely recommend Stay for a small group, but be sure to reserve the VIP area. Pros: Good music, friendly staff, no cover charge Cons: Crowded more

Great service, food and drinks. Definitely a venue to consider for corporate events. 12/17/2006

We held our company party at STAY. And I must say is definitely one of those rare gems in the city. The service was just as sleek as the venue. Our event was a success because of their impeccable staff. The owners definitely know how to throw an event. And the food was superb. Excellent food, drinks and people, what more do want but to go STAY. Pros: service, venue, food, and drinks. Cons: N/A more

If you want a good time this is it. 12/17/2006

Recently threw a party for my cousin on a Saturday night and reserved a table in the back. The staff was extremely helpful and were there early in the evening so I could drop some things off before the party. When I arrived the staff knew my name and were quick to deliver the bottle that I requested. The music was fantastic. Good mix of hip-hop and what not and everyone at the party complemented me on the good choice of place. The place is small and can get a bit crowded but usually enough room to dance. Pros: Good music Cons: A bit crowded more

Not bad 10/28/2006

Recently had a birthday party here and reserved the VIP section in the back. The owner/manager was great to deal with. I purchased two bottles for the table and overall, bottle service is much reasonably priced than most bars/clubs. The waitresses did nothing more than bring the bottles over to the table but the 20% tip was mandatory so I felt a little jipped (one waitress had the nerve to recommend more). The music was mostly hip hop and the venue attracts a lot of younger patrons. Overall, not a bad experience and I would recommend to those who don't mind a night out with a fairly young and rowdy crowd. Pros: Nice owner, cool space Cons: Young kids more

Great Birthday Party! 9/10/2006

I never heard of STAY before, I found it on Citysearch when looking for a place to host 20 of our friends for my fiance's b-day party on a Saturday night. The staff was so amazing, the music was awesome, and there wasn't an ounce of attitude. The owner himself was extremely accomodating, as was the staff. From beginning to end. I highly reccomend having your next party here! Pros: Amazing Service/Great Music Cons: Can't think of any more

danced til 4am! 6/8/2006

I just had my party this past week at Stay, I'll admit the door policy is strict, they didn't let a few friends in that were dressed down but I guess that's understandable when there's no cover. The table reservations were all full so I recommend booking in advance and ask for their bottle packages. The place is small to medium size holding roughly 200 people which made it awesome bumping & grinding in the back dance floor. The music was decent, not bad but a lot of commercial top 40, the mash ups were a bonus. Overall I recommend Stay for the great service they give birthday celebrants. Pros: good service, drinks and dancing in the back Cons: tables get sold out, parking more

Just walk in, No cover, Drink and Lounge! 6/8/2006

STAY is a real comforting lounge that is very small but a cool place to chill and listen to music. Their music is great where they range from 70s-90s-hip hop-reggae-reggaeton-techno at around 3am. Their drinks are typical around $8-10. Bouncers are real cool and so are the bartenders. The place can get too crowded on busy nights since the place is small. They keep their word on reservations and include bottle and table. Go early for a drink, lounge and dance a little! Pros: NO COVER, Good DJ, Hot neighborhood Cons: Too Small, No Dance floor, immature fights. more

Cool Little Lounge 5/22/2006

Stay is a pretty cool place to pop by and get some drinks at. The place is tiny, bar is usually packed but, it's a chill vibe at the place and although it maybe get crowded, people are not pushy. Drinks are decently priced. Overall, a great lounge to hang out at but, there isn't much dancing going on. more

Great for Birthdays - Hot Urban Beats! 4/2/2006

I just recently had my birthday party at STAY on a Saturday night. It turned out to be the best birthday I've had!! The staff at STAY are very friendly - including the bouncers at the door. This place is awsome for birthdays since it is no-cover & hassle-free at the door! Tthere is also no minimum bottle requirements for tables!! The best thing about this place is the music - just off-da-hook!! The DF plays hot urban beats all night long and no 80s!! Dance floor is not big - but it's cozy. All of my guests had a blast and many stayed until close (no pub intended)!! A few are even thinking of having their parties at STAY. But make sure you keep your eye on your tab - bc the bartender was very liberal and charged drinks on wrong tabs... Otherwise - all is highly recommended!! Pros: Hot urban beats, cozy atmosphere, no cover, no hassle Cons: too liberal with tabs more

Needs improvement 3/23/2006

I didn't want to stay at Stay very long! I went when it first opened and initially the sound system was terrible and they had issues with the AC so it was terribly humid and hot. And adding to the discomfort it was really crowded. I went back a weekend ago but now there's a terrible stench in the back so it smells like diapers. Nice place but needs a lot of work. Pros: Location Cons: crowded, small more

crowdedly cozy 2/19/2006

the place is a bit too narrow, but it's very cozy when it's not overload with people. great music, just wish they have more room to dance. Pros: attractive people , drinks, music Cons: parking more

See for yourself 12/26/2005

I recently had my birthday party at Stay. Before planning it, I went to scope the place out just to make sure I would like it. Stay is esthetically pleasing to the eye, very trendy and clean, so clean the place smells like a spa. I think it's cause of the weird looking air purifer they have sitting by the DJ booth. The initial night I went was a Thursday, while the crowd was decently mixed up (mostly the corporate banker type) I can't say the same for my party the following day on Friday, all europeans with accents dominated half of the scene. The music was really good and the staff was friendly. Overall I recommend Stay Pros: Attractive guys, Great Music Cons: Very loud in the back, slow coatcheck more

As promised 12/13/2005

Stay was by far a memorable experience. The manager promised my party sitting and bottle service and actually stuck to his word. Since it was my bday the owner approached me and hooked us up with shots. I hate going into places where everyone is checking you out. When you walk in you can feel a good energy from the crowd. Definately no pretentious individuals roaming around. The only downer was the coat check line was long. Pros: good music, great staff Cons: no parking, crowded more

User review by sugarshotz 11/19/2005

No cover and decent priced drinks. Nice looking but small. Music was too loud for talking but there was no room to dance. Pros: stylish, trendy, no cover Cons: loud, crowded more

Small But Fun! 11/7/2005

Located on the lower east side, this place is not the easiest to get to for anyone coming from uptown. While the place is small, it is unbelievably trendy and well decorated. The music is good and the bottle options are not terrible. The service was great as the owner and I chatted about birthday arrangements. I am very pleased with the service, atmosphere of STAY, well worth it. Plus, no cover and decent drink prices! Pros: No Cover, Good Music, Service Cons: Small, Crowded more

MAD Crowded!!! 11/7/2005

I went on last Sat. nite. I liked the crowd, I liked the music however, there is hardly space to STAND...forget DANCIN'. Pros: Good Music, Good Crowd, No COVER Cons: Crowded, Crowded, Crowwwded more

Owner Message
  • It may be the 60's retro decor, the diverse mix of DJ-spun tunes, the specialty cocktails, or the cool, attractive downtown crowd which make you stay, but once you arrive, you're going nowhere.

Editorial
  • The Scene
A very subtle sign on its front window makes this nightspot feel discreet--despite its well-traveled Houston Street location. A mod, curvaceous couch lines one wall, '60s-style lounge chairs provide additional seating, and retro-futuristic pendant lamps cast a sexy red glow. The only thing that's missing in this chic space is a snooty attitude; instead, there's a welcoming, inclusive, laid-back vibe.

    The Draw
Thanks to a generous no-cover policy and mainstream-friendly house, hip-hop, and '80s DJs, an unpretentious crowd packs the house on weekends, and full bars at either end of the long, slim space ensure service without much of a wait. The affable staffers deftly pour several popular house cocktails, including the achingly sweet and naughtily named Punani, a blue pina colada served in a martini glass. The bar covers all the bases, with beer, wine, and bottle service available, too.
