Great place for cut and color plus more 6/4/2009

Starr Hair Studio is conveniently located in downtown Boston on Newbury St. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere welcoming and they do a great job. I always get compliments on my hair cut and color. I recommend Starr to my friends - because I think they are such a great value. Great Hair Cuts in Great Spot 11/12/2008

A friend recommended Kim to me - one visit and I knew why. Kim is patient (she helped me decide on color for almost an HOUR before she started mixing), an excellent stylist and colorist (love the cut, the exact color I wanted), and down-to-earth (no Newbury attitude here). Excellent hair cut and coloring! 8/30/2008

It takes me one and a half hours to get to Starr but it has been worth it for more than 25 years. Doug is a superb stylist and I always get complements on my cut and coloring. Lily and Bobby are terrific also - I see the excellent results of their artistry on other satisfied people. This is a very friendly salon - none of those pretentious snobby types. A friend from Maine goes to Starr when she is in town and is enthusiastic also. It is convenient to the ""T"". I never have to wait for more than 10 minutes. Great place! My husband says that I look 15 years younger with my new hair cut and lighter color by Diane! My colleagues at work agree! Thank you Diane!!! My children gave me a gift certificate to Starr Hair Studio for a birthday some years ago. I have been going back every month since. Starr Hair Salon is the cream of the crop. When it comes to my hair I only travel first class . Bobby at Starr makes that possible. My hair looks great and I have never been disappointed. Best hair style studio 7/26/2008

I have been going to Starr since Doug and Bobby (and Lily) opened the doors, and Doug has been doing my hair for 30 years. I live outside of the city, but getting my hair done at Starr is well worth the ride. I get compliments on the cut from strangers! Saturdays are a fun time, with lots of kidding around by the team who always do a great job (judging by the smiles on the clients as they leave). I highly recommend checking it out! I have been going to Starr Hair Studio for almost 8 years and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Lily cuts and colors my hair always to my utmost satisfaction - I trust her implicitly with my hair and have never been disappointed. I have recommended her to family (my daughter has been going to Lily for years), friends and neighbors and have had people stop me on the street to ask about my hair stylist. Bobby, Lily, Doug and Diane are fantastic and I highly recommend Starr Hair Studio!! Pros: Great location, comfortable salon, great staff! more

Terrific hair studio 7/5/2008

I first visited Starr in 1978 and the hospitality, professionalism, and quality of the studio were outstanding! I changed stylist only because I moved; however, when I returned closer to the Boston area in 2000, a friend of mine said ""You need to do something with your hair and recommended Starr!"" I couldn't believe that Bobby, Lily, and David were still there and have been going there for the past 8 years!! Bobby usually does my hair but I am very satisfied with everyone. Everyone is courteous, friendly, and the hair treatments are exceptional! I'm looking forward to my app't with Bobby this week as he suggested doing some highlights. Everyone was also sympathic and concerned when I was undergoing chemo and radiation last year and offered support. Even though I didn't lose my hair, Bobby offered his services to help me with wigs if I needed. A very caring, relaxing, and professsional studio. My wife and I have been going to Starr for upwards of 20 years, we drive in from Ipswich because Bobby is an expert stylist and a genuinely nice and real person. Everybody at Starr is accommodating and helpful. \r \r We have NEVER had a bad experience at Starr, it is a relaxed yet professional environment (if only they served drinks). Great hair salon! 6/3/2008

Bobby at Starr Hair Studio has been cutting my hair for many years. He truly makes me feel like a star - or should I say STARR!! I always make plans to go out after my appointment because he makes my hair look completely fabulous. Everyone in the salon is friendly and going there is like visiting with friends. The location is excellent and convenient to lots of great shopping and restaurants as well as public transportation and parking (there is a parking very close by and meter parking also). By continually attending hair shows and taking classes, the Starr stylists enhance their natural expertise and hone their skills. Never have another bad hair day again! I've been commuting to Starr from the South Shore for over twenty years, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. WhoTravels 440 miles for a Hair Cut? 5/12/2008

I started going to Diane Mathews about 17 years ago when living in Boston. Six years ago I moved back to VT - and still go to Diane! This is a 440 mile round trip every 6 weeks but it is worth it - Diane gives the best hair cut and color of anyone I have been to - and I have been to them all! Diane Matthews at Starr Hair Studio is one of the best stylists around.\r In addition to great haircuts, she has the most wonderful, stress-relieving shampoo technique you can imagine. I'm a licensed massage therapist and I can tell you that her scalp and neck massage has been a healing lifesaver for me for many years. Pros: Friendly atmosphere, great cut, the BEST shampoo! more

Consistently the best! 5/23/2007

Starr was recommended to me over 20 years ago and Bobby has been cutting my hair ever since, except for the times he is hot in and I am a desperate bad hair case. All of my cuts and color have been excellent and I am always getting compliments on the the cut (I don't admit to the color and it is so natural).
