Best

the upstairs room is fancy. This is a test page. I'm checking out your application. Trying to get 100 words. Pros: love the pizza Cons: expensive

Worst

Out of a group of nine of us, only 4 were happy. The pork tenderloin was dry, we were given the wrong drinks (Makers Mark instead of Frangelico -surprise, ack!), and the bill was ...

Certainly not a 10! Try 4. 1/3/2003

I really want Starlite to be good but they just keep working against themselves. Though based on the numerous 10's on the Citysearch site I am sure diners will keep on going...though I am a little skeptical of anyone who rates restaurants 10's. I have eaten at Starlite 4 times and on each occasion the restaurant failed to deliver in at least two categories. Pros: nice space, nice patio for drinks Cons: price, portions, service more

I think this is some of the best food in Austin. Yeah, it get's a little high-end, but hey, if you're pinching pennies, go to Luby's. But if you want to impress, seduce, or just eat fine faire, go to Starlite. Pros: stellar food, celestial ambience Cons: sky-high prices more

could have been better... 10/14/2002

first impression: we were ignored by the hostess, had a reservation and still had to wait to be seated... kind of colored the whole evening. thankfully the waiter was pretty attentive and the food was good but I can't imagine we'll eat there again. more

Snooty staff... 9/28/2002

I was surprised to find such an uppity staff in Austin. When we arrived at the EMPTY restaurant after 6PM, we were snootily asked if we had a reservation. The female hostess/water person was quite nice, but the other staff members were far from Austin-friendly. At first, the portions seemed extremely small, but they were quite adequate. However, the prices were NOT in line with the portions or the quality of the food. The food was good, but was certainly not spectacular and certainly didn't warrant the price per portion. While I was excited to try this restaurant based on the reviews, it did not live up to the expectation and was definitely not worth $70 a person for a wee salad and a wee entree with 2 inexpensive glasses of wine. more

On of Austin's best restaurants 8/10/2002

Excellent food. Portions modestly sized. Menu changes often. The wait staff is one of the best in Austin. Starlite is FINE DINING. If only all restaurants were run this way... Small portions, take your time, 2 hours minimum to a meal, no rush, and leave with a full belly but never feeling bloated. If you love dining in, say, New York, Montreal, or France, this place is perfect for you. If you like a big, sloppy, and fast meal a la IHOP or Threadgills, go anyway and learn about a new, enriching way of eating. more

What a find!! 7/29/2002

Great restaurant with wonderful service. The waitstaff was there when you needed them but don't hover. The food was great and actually I think the portions were perfect. Usually most places serve WAY too much food. The pork was wonderful (and I am not a pork person). This place is trully an ""Austin"" place - off of 34th right near Guadalupe and UT campus - great location. Totally romantic. Only beef was the back room was a little warm and muggy - not venilated well. Pros: food, service, patio! Cons: temperature more

Romantic 7/9/2002

my review of Wink can pretty much be transcribed for Starlite. Starlite is more romantic and the portions a bit smaller, but this is still one of my 5 favorite restaurants in Austin. The Degustation is always a winner. Pros: intimate more

small portions, great service 5/20/2002

Starlite is casual and hip. I haven't had a bad dinner or brunch here. Their portions are a little on the small-side; if you have a healthy appetite, be sure to order appetizers and dessert. more
