What more do you want from Staples? 6/25/2011

Union Square is my Staples, so to me this is how Staples is. Do you have to buttonhole a clerk who's talking to somebody if you want help finding what you want, or at least what you want to find? Yes, but don't do it if you mind his/her slight impatience if you're a slower decider than George Bush was back when he ran a small country. Oh, is the U.S. a big one? Great! But Staples (1) is sometimes the only place that has a small item you need, and (2) if you want a bigger item, is often a good bet to have it with an OK-or-better price tag. Then you can run it over to the cashier and haul it home in a sack without one person there getting steamed up about the sale they just made. A shortage of enthusiasm? Maybe, but it's low-key and seems real agreeable to me some days. more

Not that great 7/26/2006

This Staples is pretty big, compared to some other ones. But it's in the middle of union square so you would probably assume it's very busy - and it is. I don't like long lines when i'm just getting paper or pens - and everytime I've been to this one, I've had at least a 5 minute wait time, when I usually don't have to wait at all in some other Staples in Manhattan. more

but office supply stores vary wildly. If you know exactly what you want and just need to run in and out, go for it. Asking the salespeople here for any assistance beyond an aisle number is an exercise in futility. I used to work next door -- literally -- so I spent a fair amount of time in this store. BE SURE when you buy something from them that they carry ALL the replacement and refill parts. Several items I purchased from them eventually needed basic parts and refills that they did not carry. Annoying! And bad business. more

Opens Earlier On Sundays - Great for Catching Circular Specials 5/22/2005

It may seem that all Staples are the same, but this one is open at 9 a.m. on Sunday, which is rare for this ubiquitous office supply chain. This situation is perfect if, like me, you are looking in the Saturday circular and find a FABULOUS rebate/sale offer that begins on Sunday. I got to Staples at 9 am on Sunday, and got a Canon S400 and IP4000 printer for somewhere around $325 after rebates and tax and stuff. Staples always has rebates flying around, so it's a surprisingly good place to browse for deals on electronics. The only complaint I had was that the staff, while very very nice, kept trying to emphasize the importance of Staples warranties. PROS: Opens early on Sundays. Well stocked. CONS: more
