Several of our family members have purchased shutters from Stanfield for their homes and I thought they had a reliable reputation and warranty and we wanted to buy locally if possible.
We had a very large window shutter replaced by Stanfield Shutter last spring. We chose the largest louver and because of experience with other shutters already in the home breaking on the control rod staple area, we chose to go without the control rod. In November, my son (26) told me when he opened the louvers the one he had opened had loosened from the edge. I went over to examine the louver and slowly lifted it open and the louver came apart on the edge from the small anchor on the edge..it was only a tiny plastic anchor and out it came from the frame and the louver top layer of material (paint and woodish layer) splintered in my hand.
I called the service/sales person who had sold us the shutter to report this louver and another which was beginning to loosen the same way, requesting warranty service. His reply, without seeing the louver or the frame or the anchor, was that they had found damage to their product only with abuse or misuse, as a result there would not be any warranty service. He quoted me $90 to fix the two slats in addition to a service fee of $75 to come to the house to put them back together. I am not sure how much extra it was for the tiny plastic anchors. I did not ask.
I emailed him photos and asked that he talk to his manager about the louvers as I did not believe there was any harsh or unusual treatment involved. He did not call back. I called the secretary in a few days. She said she would check to see if he had seen the photos or talked to the manager. A few days later, I received an email in response to my email with photos saying the same thing he had told me the previous week before he saw the photos. These shutters were not misused...If they do not hold up to normal opening and closing they are poorly designed or manufactured. We were very disappointed to find this company does not honor their warranty and stand behind their product. Sorry to say, but the made -in -China shutters we had in our home in Idaho opened and closed smoothly and are much sturdier than the Stanfield shutters.
