WORST KARAOKE SHOW IN TOWN. PERIOD! 12/22/2006

Okay, so we paid $5 cover each and had to purchase at least two (way overpriced) drinks to even get into the rotation. This should be MORE than enough to get to sing? but now we?re expected to tip the KJ too, just to get up in a reasonable amount of time? THAT?S RIDICULOUS! No KJ should show favoritism to singers based on tips? As an EXPERIENCED karaoke singer I find this practice terribly offensive. There are plenty of good shows in town (with MUCH BETTER KJs and sound systems ? both at Spotlight are below average) that don?t expect you to do this. Pros: parking, location Cons: Terrible service... no regard for paying customers more

There are plenty of good shows in town (with MUCH BETTER KJs and sound systems ? both at Spotlight are below average) that don?t expect you to do this. If that weren?t bad enough, while we sat and waited for our first turn to sing (it was moderately crowded) the owner, Mr. Lee, got up and sang... TWICE! Ugh! HELLO? YOU HAVE PAYING CUSTOMERS PATIENTLY WAITING THEIR TURN WHO DID NOT COME HERE TO BE PRE-EMPTED BY YOU!!! Karaoke 101: You take care of your CUSTOMERS FIRST, then IF it's a short rotation, you may sing at the tail end of it. When we approached Mr. Lee and complained about this, he got mad at us and told us to leave. I?m appalled and amazed that this dolt manages to run a business this way. The ONLY reason I ever go back to Spotlight is if a good friend or family member decides to have a party there (despite my advice)? My wish to celebrate with loved ones supersedes my desire to not patronize this place. But I still hate it. Pros: parking, location Cons: Terrible service... no regard for paying customers more

Not as much fun as it use to be. 10/23/2006

Great place to go, and socialize. It gets busy and takes a few hours to get up sometimes but you can go on the weekdays if you don't like waiting to sing and sing all night long. Pros: Tons of Karaoke songs to choose from. Cons: Takes a while to sing on weekends more

Good hangout place with Friends and on top of great song list"; Good Sushi at 10PM 7/12/2006

Staff is always friendly but will not suffer fools who get out of hand!! The owners Mr and Mrs Lee are very hospitable and like to get on first name bases with customers, the staff is friendly: It's the Cheeers of Karaoke, there are lots of regulars. Great song selection: I seldom run into a song I don't find. Drinks may be a bit pricey but consider it is located in the Galleria a high rent area: Usually I will budget $20 for myself and do Okay, so that will not deter me. Pros: Lot's of regulars who are friendly, sort of family atmosphere. Cons: Can be crowded at times, best day to avoid this: Thursdays. more

NEVER AGAIN 3/17/2006

The first time I went, it was packed. We end up waiting over two hours only to find that there were at least 15 more people in front of us. We leave and decide to take the dj's suggestion to come earlier. The second time the same thing happens, and its not packed. If you want to sing it has nothing to do with what time you arrive. You need to throw around some money or know the employees. If you don't, be prepared to wait all night to sing one song. We noticed people filtering out because they are tired of waiting and bored. The food is horrible. There is a drink minimum to sing. If you're the designated driver be prepared to pay $4 for water or a small soda. Don't get on the stage to help your drowning friend. You will unknowingly forfeit your request. Pros: inexpensive, friendly crowd Cons: money's worth, bad parking, bad food more

This club has always been a great place to go and to sing but I am truly disappointed tonight. We have been regulars there for over two months, going two to three times a week. If you go and there is a party, expect not to get to sing, it seems that the KJ breaks every KJ rule. Money seems to get you moved up in the rotation. I personally was very patient and waited over 2 1/2 hours to sing and never got up. After watching people sing 2 or 3 times I questioned the KJ who told me that I was still 10 songs down. He admitted that a group had slipped him money to place them ahead in the rotation. I do not recommend you going to this karaoke bar. Actions speak louder than any words can say. more

ya gotta be part of the family 3/3/2006

ya gotta be part of the spotlight family to really appreciate this karaoke bar. this means that you have to get to know everyone that is a part of the establishment, like waitstaff and bartenders and or owners, oh and other regulars. this makes the place more comfortable. next you gotta know how to take care of the staff, cause like in most places they wont notice you if your cheap. so dont be cheap, and that probably reflects on the people that get to sing more often than others. so if your waiting forever to sing... tip!! like most bars/clubs, your paying and tipping for atmosphere and service, that most likely your not getting at home, and if you are.... stay home! oh, and dont go just for the sushi, if you want sushi go to uptown sushi, or something like that. Pros: good company, friendly , good song selection more

Too Much for Too Little! 10/28/2004

I will say that they do have an awesome song collection for karaoke purposes. Other than that, they are too expensive!!! I went last Saturday night, and the crowd is not very responsive to any of the singers, it was pretty much a yawnfest. $2.50 for a small rocks glass of diet coke? That's pretty lousy, especially for a designated driver...If you just want to go sing, remember there is a 2 drink minimum just to turn in a song. Pros: decent parking, great song selection Cons: , Boring crowd more

Negative 9/15/2004

I didn't care for the banner in the way of the singers at the Finals Contest. It hid alot of what the singers were trying to do to win the contest. The person that won the contest blew some lines and still won. Go figure. The bar is really nice though. The drink prices are too expensive. Pros: Nice Bar, Great Sushi Cons: , Slow Service more

A great place to karaoke with friends 6/3/2003

My friends and I have gone to Spotlight at least a dozen times, and we almost always have a great time. They recently did some remodelling that resulted in a more polished look. Mr. Lee, the owner, is always on hand to perform Sinatra (well!) and to greet the guests, and if the right DJ is in the house, you'll be treated to a stirring introduction when he takes to the stage. One caveat: some DJs at this club are better than others at getting all the singers into the mix. Pros: good parking, large song catalogue, good drinks Cons: mostly older songs more
