Spokane County Animal Shelter

When adopting a pet, whether it is sm., med., or lg. Whether it is a cat or dog. Inside or outside pet. Fence or no fence. I have been to all three animal shelters. County & City. Why is it they don’t ask if you live in apartment or house, how big is your lot, & why is it that folks can sell pets out of the paper and not be accounted for. How many litters did the mother already have. I was in one of the shelters & this cute little boy with a puppy, by the size of the paws & looks; you know the dog is going to be big. I stood behind the family; they filled out the papers & no questions asked. How does a person who works there knows the location. Did not pull up the address on google map. Why is it that you have to have new tags every year for your pet. You would think it would be like a drivers license. Cost; is very expensive once a year. Especially when money is so tight, so the county and city say. Where is the questions & education of owning a pet... Ending of the Story is “Oh you want a pet.... OK that will be $58.38.. Thank You and Enjoy your new pet.” more

I went to thier location to surrender my animal and was told since I live outside of the county that they could not except my pet. I understand that they will be more partial to helping tax payers... but I would have been more than willing to pay more than the amount normally required. I thought they would be more concerned with the animals welfare than funds. Unfortunately my choice was made there and I had to put him down. And yes I tried other places and re-homing myself for weeks. So disappointed. more

The Spokane County Animal Shelter is such a wonderful assett and organization. They work extremely hard and faithfully to keep stray and abandoned animals off the streets. They provide them with a safe and loving environment until they can be adopted out or returned to their owners. So, if you need a new pet - I would strongly suggest taking a look here first! more
