Nice place to eat lunch 2/24/2009

Don't let the bad reviews about service sway you. I've eaten lunch there many times, and while the service can be slow, it's still attentive and friendly. Bottom line is, it's a great place to eat lunch outside on a nice day. They have a wide selection of interesting sandwiches and burgers, but I always opt for the turkey burger, which I think is awesome. Sweet potato fries are great too. To the people I who had such ""horrible"" service, I say, ""Relax man, just enjoy your tasty burger, take in the sunshine, and be happy you're alive."" Pros: Great outdoor dining more

Skip this and be happy 6/24/2008

Horribly unacceptable customer service, expensive, and low quality food. This eatery is best avoided. I should have left after I saw the owner talking to another customer - very rude and made me wonder, ""why would I want to support this?"" There are great places all around Santa Monica - this is clearly not one of them. Take my advice and make a better choice. more

Chicken Gravy instead of Hollandaise for Eggs Benedict! 3/7/2008

We used t frequent the Spitfire quite often, but won't be going back again! There is really only one good waitress and if she's not there, plan to have a long wait for service & food! Leaving that aside, our last visit we ordered Eggs Benedict...something I look forward to as a treat every now & again. So our best waitress wasn't there & we waited quite sometime for service. It was at least 45 minutes before our meal arrived and the Eggs Benedict was covered in chicken gravy instead of Hollandaise. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement! It was gross and, of course, I didn't eat it! The response to my complaint was not well taken and I had to explain why chicken gravy isn't acceptable! Needless to say, we'll venture up to Ocean Park for much better food and service, from now on! Pros: Great patio to enjoy the small airplanes & atmosphere Cons: Service stinks & the chef best go back to culinary school! more

CAN I GET SOME SERVICE ? 10/13/2007

My wife and I tried to eat lunch here in the summer of 2007. But, hard to eat if nobody comes to your table. Actually, our busser brought us ice tea but sat for 20 minutes after that and never saw our server. Whoever is hiring & training the staff needs to be fired. After waiting almost 30 minutes we left. What a joke! Pros: Looks cool and like the theme. Cons: No service and restaurant knowledgeable staff is absent. more

Terrible service!!!!!! 10/5/2007

My boyfriend and I decided to have breakfast at spitfire, we got there by 8:00am got a table, it was 8:45am and we're waiting for the waitress to get our order but she never made it, I talk to the manager and waited for 10 more minutes until someone showed up but my boyfriend and I were angry and decided to leave. I promise to never go back to this horrible place just to tell you I felt like they were races because the person next table got there like 20 to 30 minutes after us and they got their service on time (probably because they were white and We're Hispanics) more

Nice location for airplane buffs, but food and prices will leave you wanting... 10/4/2006

This place needs an overhaul by someone who knows what good food and good dining are. I own a home close by and would love to make this place my local haunt....however I have never been impressed with anything about this place aside from the location. If you are an airplane admirer then you could overlook the mediocre food and okay service and enjoy a sit on the patio and the quiet breeze, but that's it. To be fair I haven't been in about a year but over the last 7 years every time I go back it's always the same, Santa Monica prices and Denny's quality food. I've been there for breakfast and lunch. Please see the light and do it right....by the way if you want a good example of done right...try some of my favorites, Sam & Woody's Country Diner, Omelette Parlor, Snug Harbor, or Rays on Pico for the value and great pancakes! Pros: Airplanes, nice patio Cons: food, prices more

Worst Dining Experience-Bad Wine! 10/24/2005

We visited the Spitfire Grill on Saturday night and got horrendous service. The waiter was an older man who called the owner ""cheap"" as well as calling us cheap for ordering ""cheap red wine"". When I asked for chives with my potato, he said, ""every restaurant has chives-they are just chopped green onions"", instead of a polite ""yes"" which would have been more appropriate. The food was good, but I would never go back based on the service. He was rude, and I can't figure out how he's been there so long unless he owns the place himself. Pros: No Valet, No Wait, No Reservations Neede Cons: Bad Service, No Full Bar, Unprofessional Staff more
