Horrible with no options 9/16/2015

The Doctors are great when you can actually see them. My son is 15 and has suddenly began having full clonic/ tonic seizures. After the trip to the emergency room we were told to see the neurologist within 48 hrs. HA! good luck.Had to have 3 seizures and 2nd trip to ER. Only children's neurology group in Austin and they know it. The scheduling staff is HORRIBLE! You would think dealing with scared parents and sick children with no diagnosis they would be compassionate...nope. They threatened to hang up on my wife. We literally had to beg to be seen. The doctors seem good but with no answers after tests coming back normal just a pill dispensary. If you get a nurse they have got it together if not don't expect a call back. My son terribly sick, vomiting, depressed, scared, having seizures ,completely out of any normal character trait, there answer more meds. No dont come in just take more meds. Only time you get a call back in timely fashion is when calling the after hours and that doctor has no idea about you or your child. We called from opening to close and no call back. This place is obviously way under staffed and over worked. I pray some smart doctors who want to actually "care " for our children move to Austin. I would give any one else my money. Do your research the treatment of seizures with unknown cause is the same no matter what doctor you see. This place is terrible but you really have no choice. Lower your expectations of care so you don't go crazy. The only exception is Dr. Clarke the epilepsy specialist. He was the only reason i have continued care here hoping he can actually treat my sons illness. He gave clear, concise, realistic information. By the way your chance of actually seeing a doctor is null. First the resident then maybe in 3 months. Good luck more

Love Dr. Scott 5/30/2011

My son was dx Type 1 in 2008. Dr. Scott was the on call endo when he was admitted and we have been with her since. He likes how she is tough yet funny. Her staff has been great to work with, especially the nurses and CDE. more

Don't take your child to see Dr. Scott at Specially for children 7/8/2009

The doctor does not return calls. Poor emergency response time. The nurses are rude and cold and uncaring, The office will not give out lab results when the labs were done a month ago and the nurse says that there were findings in the lab, but she can't give them out!!!! more

Dr. Jeffrey Kane 1/21/2009

Dr. Jeffrey Kane is a wonderful Pediatric nuerologist who took care of my daughter's seizure disorder for about 7+ years. From the onset of her symptoms of grand mal seizure, througout the tuning of meds, testing of her brain and the addl dx of bi-polar disorder Dr. Kane was a kind and caring professional who gave us the utmost reassurance and respect. He always answered all the questions of a worried Mom with grace and serenity. He gave my daughter his email address to contact if she got so depressed that she needed someone. She never used the email but he made our experience so comforting and we have nothing but love and respect for This Dr. and The SFC staff. We luvz Dr. Kane!! more

Endocrinologist 10/27/2008

My son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2006 and we were assigned to this physician. I was uncomfortable from the beginning. Our emergency calls were not taken seriously. on call doctors were clueless. we were short changed on necessary information, namely access to the nutritionist. last visit I was excluded from important information and the latest was a call in for insulin hasn't been acknowledged for almost 2 weeks. We're changing doctors. Concerned Mom more

Great Pediatric Gastroenterologist 7/16/2005

I am speaking from experience when I say that it is important to have knowledgeable, kind, and understanding doctors when dealing with a child who has medical problems. The doctors and nursing staff at Specially for Children exceed the expectation, they are friendly and take the time to answer any questions you might have about your child's illness, medicine, or procedures. more
