Editorial review from Citysearch 1/11/2013

My long-time stylist Ande (been with her for over 8 years now) just relocated to Spalon Montage. Ande is fantastic--prior to meeting her waaay back in the day, I cut my hair once a year and more or less suffered with dry, limp and shapeless hair in winter. Ande is consistently spot on layering my cuts so I get enough volume but at the same time keeping my style fun and easy for me to manage. She also taught me how to use product (lol) and that knowledge has helped immensely in countering the winter hair blahs. Plus her shampoo massages are wonderful! If you have difficult hair, you will not be disappointed with what Ande can do for you! more

Spalon Montage-Edina, MN 5/26/2010

The first time I went to Spalon in Edina was for an eyebrow wax. I went in and absolutely loved the waiting room. That turned out to be good as I was left there for 1/2 hour past my appt. time, until I decided to go ask if they knew when I would get in. When I finally did get in she stated that she needed to swap rooms with another person and that this is why it took so long. She did say she was sorry, but you could tell she did not really care at all that she had left me waiting.\r About a month later I had a wedding to go to and my little girl was the flower girl. I could not get into my regular stylist so unfortunately decided to give Spalon another try as it is a very convenient location for me. BIG MISTAKE! My regular stylist told me to call ahead to make sure they had a certain type of roller that I wanted them to use in my hair. I called two days before the appt. and they assured me they had them. I went over exactly what I wanted to be done with my stylist. All of the sudden she said my hair was done and I asked why she did not put the rollers in. She stated that she did not have those type of rollers. Why she did not tell me that before she started and why the front desk told me they had these rollers two days before is beyond me. I walked away with and average at best blow-out. \r Again, I mentioned it to the front desk and their attitude and tone of voice made it obvious that the did not care at all. I am sure they did not give my complaint a second thought. \r On the positive side. My two daughters did walk away with lovely hair for the wedding. You can probably find a stylist or two that are actually good at Spalon, but is it really worth the attitude you get from the others that work there?\r Pros: Nice waiting room Cons: They absolutely do not care about the customer! more

Finally tracked down my waxin' gal!!!! 11/2/2009

I was seeing Summer at E42nd St Salon in southwest minneapolis and when I called to set up my appointment and was told that she was no longer there I almost had a heart attack. I have managed to track her down at Spalon thankfully!!! I have been seeing her for my brazilians and facials for over a year now and have always had a wonderful experience. She is a very thorough waxer and has a wonderfully relaxing touch in her facials. I have and will continue to highly recommend her to anyone on the market looking for an esthetician. Pros: Beautifully remodeled salon and spa. Cons: Salon is a little hard to find at first. more

The best stylists in the city. 7/28/2008

Best cut and color of my life, and I used to live in New York City and pay so much more for it! Nice amenities, clean salon, very talented and inspired stylists (and good people watching). Bottom line: East Coast talent at midwest prices... can't beat it. Pros: Amazing stylists. Cons: Parking. more

Great wax! 7/18/2008

I moved to Minneapolis late last year and have not had a good waxing experience yet (in fact, have had several bad experiences). Saw Lynne today at Salon Montage in Edina. She was very conversational, thorough and sweet. No more searching for an aesthetician! Pros: Easy parking, nice & experienced staff more

Worst Massage EVERRRRRRRRRRRR - Extremely Poor Treatment! Let me save you! 6/27/2008

I am sorry to say that I had the worst experience I have EVER had at Spalon Montage. I manage a salon in St. Paul, but went out of my way to go elsewhere for a 55 minute pregnancy massage because I wanted to receive all the special treatment that comes along with being a client at a salon vs. an employee. The experience started out fine - I was showed to the locker room, given a robe/slippers and then escorted myself to the waiting area. I waited about five minutes and the massage therapist came to get me. During the brief consultation, she asked me if there were any areas that needed extra attention - to which I told her neck and shoulders. During the 55 minute massage (I'll get to timing later), neither my neck nor my shoulders were even touched. Instead, my butt and legs received about 35 minutes worth of attention, which I neither asked for nor cared for. The massage was extremely unsatisfying being that as a pregnant woman, I need my neck, shoulders and back rubbed. At the end of the massage (again, I'll get back to the timing), I was told she was done and she left the room. I was left with a puddle of oil all over myself, so it took me some time to get dried off and recover from the oily mess. In addition, it takes an 8 month pregnant woman a bit of time to get up from being on her back. I heard a knock on the door and was told I needed to hurry up. The door was fogged glass and I could see several people standing outside of it. I was shocked, but complied. I received dirty looks from three therapists standing outside the door upon my re-entrance to the world. I was told if I wanted water, I could pour myself a glass (for $80, couldn't YOU pour it for me?) I checked in for my service at 2pm - changed, waited for the therapist, received the service, changed, checked out and was in my car before 3pm. Not sure how that equates to 55 minutes. I will never return there and will share my experience with others in hopes that they don't either! more

Not worth the money. Left feeling unsatisfied. 5/31/2008

Why does Spalon Montage get so many stars? There are either very few good Spas in Minneapolis, or I just don't understand the rating system on City Search. I had a Spa day - at the Edina location - consisting of a facial, massage, and manicure. The first two were mediocre at best, and the manicure was just OK. I was supposed to have a consultation first with the woman who did my facial to determine what kind of facial I would get, but she didn't really seem interested in answering my questions and gave me what ended up being the standard facial even though I told her I wanted something more intensive like microdermabraison or a peel. The results are fine, my face was nicely moisturized but the lack of communication was frustrating. The massage was terrible. I felt like the masseuse did a one size fits all kind of massage, even though he ASKED me beforehand what I wanted and what areas I wanted to concentrate on. The room smelled and it was freezing too - not very relaxing. The manicure was good but nothing special. The waiting room is indeed small as others have noted, I felt rushed at times, and the whole experience was not the relaxing day of pampering i was hoping for. I have been to Spas in Florida and Toronto Canada where I got much more for the money. I will note that I have gotten highlights done here with Cheyanne and she's very good. i like this place much better as a Salon! Pros: Good hair salon. Cons: Very average Spa. Way too rushed all the time. more

Best massage ever, the rest was ""eh"" 2/22/2008

I recently went to Spalon Montage for a mini-spa day. I got their ""express"" package as a gift, and I had to schedule it about a month out from when I called. Starting out, it went great. My masseuse was heavenly, and I got one of the best massages I've ever had. I can't recall her name off the top of my head, but it started with a K. She deserves a 5-star rating. The rest was not as spectacular. My nail technition was ok, but my polish started peeling 2 days later. The hairstylist who I got was brand new, and made my NOT difficult, rather simple-to-do hair look atrocious. It was to the point where I could tell the stylist one chair over wanted badly to offer some advice. When I went to leave, I had to ask for the spa products bag and gift certificate that was part of my package. The front desk staff were neither hurried nor happy to help me out. The $15 gift certificate they give you is nice, but the selection to pick from is extremely minimal.\r \r I realize this is not the main location for this spa chain. Had I gone to the Woodbury location I might have an entirely different view of them. I would go back here for a massage again, but never would I re-do my spa day or buy gift certificates for my friends/family. Pros: Best masseuse I've ever encountered Cons: Snippy front desk staff, inexperienced hair stylist more

Great esthetician, decent spa, scattered front desk 2/11/2008

Went to Spalon recently for a facial. The esthetician was fantastic (Lynda); she massaged my neck, shoulders, face, scalp, arms to the extent that it almost felt like a massage rather than a facial. Results were great, no pressure to buy product, common sense suggestions on improving my skin. I found the locker area to be on the small side and would have liked to see a steam room or sauna to enhance the experience. The spa staff were very helpful and soothing but the front desk experience was anything but professional. I was not greeted attentively and while talking to a front desk member she continued to shout to other staff members. Everyone seemed confused about what they were supposed to be doing and it didn't make me feel welcomed. I believe the spa experience (relaxing, soothing, attentive) should begin at the front door, not once you get to the treatment room. Pros: Lynda was an amazing esthetician Cons: Much more ""salon"" than spa more

I love Spalon! 8/26/2007

Spalon is still the best place to go if you want the most amazing work, and the least attitude from your stylist. I've been EVERYWHERE trying to find a fabulous stylist who actually knows what he's doing and isn't just a walking ego in head to toe Gucci. I found him at Spalon Montage in Edina, and his name is Adam. He always has ideas, always gives me the best hair of anyone in my group of friends, and never bullies me or gives me attitude. And his assistant gives an orgasmically good shampoo. I love Spalon! Pros: Service, cool haircuts and color. Cons: booking can be a little tricky more

Whatever happened to Spalon Montage? 6/30/2007

I used to attend Spalon Montage back in the 1990's and absolutely LOVED it. They have additional training for their stylists which offered excellent results. It was a friendly and fun place that offered excellent workmanship. I then moved away until recently when I returned to get a haircut. The stylist was very nice, however, I was utterly and completely embarrassed by the final style that she finished me with. I felt like I was back in the 1950's with a bouffant that I never thought I'd ever see again. The price for the haircut was a bit high (but the end result made it wayyy too high). Whatever happened to Spalon I don't know but it definitely is NOT the same quality it used to be. The price, quality, and atmosphere have been lost. This is not intended to be mean but I honestly think a Spalon makeover would help. more

Horrible!! 3/9/2007

This salon is way overpriced for the services we received. We book an appointment for a wash and style and they said they did not have time to wash, so I got a greasy blowout. Another up do was done in less than 10 minutes with no regard to style and it cost over $65. The stylists were too busy to take the time to do hair. It was a horrible experience and I cried after I left! Sorry for such a bad review but I just don't want anyone else to have to experience what we did! Pros: NONE!!!!!!! Cons: Inexperienced hair stylist, charge for water and waited for ever!! more
