An ok place to visit 4/15/2006

I thought this place was a little bit of a disappointment, but then I saw it the first time as an adult. I fully intend to take my niece ther this summer when she comes to visit though. They closed Mission Control to the public after 9/11 so you won't be able to see that, but they do take you on a trolley tour around JSC. The inside exhibits are geared more towards children, but it's a good place to check out. more

A must see for Houston visiters 11/17/2005

I go here when I visit my cousin because he literally lives 5 minutes away. It's a lot of fun for the kids and enjoyable for adults. Kids will learn a lot when coming here and I think the adults will enjoy the information pertaining to NASA. Seeing all of the space vehicles was great and worth the trip. I really like science and outer space so it was great. more

Where do you go when you and your family want to learn about the space program and have a good time? Space Center Houston is a major attraction. The exhibits are often kitsch and sometimes not related to space travel but there are always interactive environments for the children and you'll find some interesting information about NASA and the shuttle program. as well as the remarkable science we're doing with probes and unmanned space vehicles. more

Space in Texas 8/21/2005

Yes, there is space in Texas. It is located at the Space Center down in Clear Lake. Take a tour of the facilities and learn interesting stuff about the moon and other planets. Your children also get to go up into a rocket replica and be the commander of the shuttle. Every few weeks they have a different theme that creates variety and fun for the whole family. more

Houston, We Have Lift Off 8/20/2005

3-2-1... blast off! Go on a guided tour of the facilities at Space Center Houston and watch the specialists working in mission control. Then, head on over to the Astronaut and Starship Galleries and take a peek at the various exhibits on display. If you've ever been interested in space and wanted to learn about it's cosmic aspects, then invest some time here. Great for children and adults. more

Here at the Space Center, you learn a lot about astronauts. There are lots of fun activities you can do inside. There is also a big indoor playground. It's fun. Tickets are reasonable and the staff is just awesome. The Staff will teach you about life in space and what they eat. more

It's a must 8/19/2005

You have to go--it has a lot of good information, exhibits, movies, etc. I do NOT recommend going in the summer--the main tour is outside, and Houston is hot and humid (to say the least) from May through September. Another fun thing to do nearby is to go over to Kimah and walk around the boardwalk. more

Ok Experience 8/19/2005

Although the center is educational and interesting I expected a bit more from NASA. They advertise the newest attraction "Blast Off" as a "heart-pounding lift off experience". We kept waiting for this "virtual, realistic" experience only to find out that we had already lifted-off. They should be more realistic about what we are going to feel the experience. I was happy to saw the Space Center, but I wont go there anytime soon. Expensive. more

Not a problem Houston 8/19/2005

Being from Houston, Space Center is a pretty cool place to visit. Most of the exhibits are geared toward children and young teenagers. The Space Center houses a mock space shuttle and the largest collection of lunar rocks in the world. There are many activities and shows to watch. There is also an IMAX theater. Overall it is a great place to visit. more

Great place to take guests from out of town 8/18/2005

Every time we have guests from out of town, this is were they are dying to go. Warning, can be a little expensive. If you are worried about costs, though, you can leave the center and get lunch outside. There are several fastfood places near by. By side this, this is a great unique place to visit. more

Houston, we have liftoff 8/16/2005

If you ever visit Houston, one place you have to go visit is the Space Center. Here, you can see the command center where all the famous Apollo mission took place. They also have a different galleries where you can play with the usual science museum "stuff" and other galleries of actual space ships. I enjoyed reading about the different missions that took place over the years as well as seeing how the space shuttles evolved over time. I even got to touch a moon rock! Recommend it for kids and adults alike. more

The Houston Space Center is a great place to visit and learn about our space program. The space center has areas directed towards children, but I don't recommend taking very small children they grow bored very quickly. My husband on the other hand could have spent days wandering around the space station is awe. I say this is a must for all of you who dreamed of being an astronaut when you were kids. You can often find discounts on admission on coke cans. more

Blast Off to Space! 7/21/2005

Space Center Houston is a place that no Houstonian or even visitor should ever not go to!! You can learn about the space program, play games, have lunch, take tours, and examine up close real rockets from the early years of the space program! The best thing about this place is the multitude of things to do. Not only do they have an amazing play area that will entertain adults as well as children, but their IMAX movies are great and moving. The tours of the complex are sometimes limited, but there are many times when you are taken to a special area. I've been on the tour over 50 times and everytime I manage to see something new! This place will astound you and they are constantly hosting new exhibits around every 3 months that are extremely intricate and interesting! Rather expensive admission fee, but it's worth it! more

Very instresting 7/8/2005

SOOO Many things to do here. You can take a tour of the Johnson space center, where sometimes if you lucky you can witness astronauts training, and take tours of certain building where they build space vehicles. Back in the Space Center, theres a HUGE gift shop, and a large playground, with many interactive things to do in it, and its so big, they need multiple guards to keep it in order. You can see many space artifacts, like recovered Apollo mission space capsules, and they even have a flight simulator where you can fly the space shuttle, and you can witness how astronauts live their lives out in space, lik what they eat and how they take showers. They even have half of a space shuttle with all the buttons to flip and press. more

  • The Scene
    This official visitors' center opened in 1992 to accommodate the thousands who flock to NASA's Johnson Space Center. Space Center Houston's 183,000-square-foot building houses a full-size mock-up of a spacecraft crew compartment and a Lunar Excursion Module trainer used by Apollo astronauts. Kids (and adults) can hop on the Lunar Rover, direct the space shuttle and build rockets. Spacesuits dating back to the first lunar trip are exhibited, along with the largest collection of moon rocks and soil samples on display anywhere.

    The Experience
    The Space Center also houses a 580-seat Imax theater. The most popular attraction, however, is the tram tour of NASA. Stops include the vacuum chamber and the Neutral Buoyancy Lab, where astronauts train for space shuttle missions in a 6.5 million-gallon pool. Three to four traveling exhibits also come to the center each year.
