South Windermere Cinemas offers better prices than the large chain theaters. You sacrifice a bit of comfort as the screens and seats are not as large but you do save money. South Windermere Cinemas also gives you the opportunity to see films that the large theater chains decided not to show in the South because they didn't fare well with the test audiences in New York and California. Ok, so South Windemere Cinemas doesn't have stadium seats, seat warmers, butlers, cupholders, and all of the other luxuries that modern movie theatres are offering, but it has what they can never, ever have: personalized service. The theatre is a family run business. What that can bring out in customer satisfaction are things that national chain theatres can only dream of. For instance, we went there once and ordered a medium popcorn. They were out of the medium bags. But instead of having some pimple faced kid stare at me blankly, I was offered an upgrade to a large popcorn at no extra charge (without even having to ask, I must add). Then there's the price of the movies. All shows are $3. Go at 3 in the afternoon, it's $3. 6 at night? $3. 11:30pm? That's right, $3. The concession offers excellent pricing as well. All candy is $1.50 and the cost of some of the more exotic items (sushi from the neighboring sushi bar and sandwiches from another neighboring deli) are very competitive. You can even buy beer (singles or by the bucket). There's also a couple of exotic birds in a cage in the lobby, and an iguana in the box office. South Windemere Cinema is definitely a place where you can take your whole family (or even a date) and not have to take out a second mortgage. more
