Best

Great sauces and meat cooked to perfection.

Worst

So for 15.95 you get a ""hickory smoke"" greasy hen sized chicken breast that appears to not even have been hickory smoked (no smoke rings = not smoked) and a 3 bone baby back rib...

Fried chicken was so-so. The sides are mostly solid, but the brisket definitely leaves plenty to be desired. more

Excellent fried chicken... 4 pieces, all crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. Also, very good mac 'n cheese! more

Great BBQ! 6/29/2010

I have been to this place three times. Each time I got something different. I just had to you silly willies out there...\r \r FIRST TIME!!! - I got the fried catfish sandwhich. Got to admit I wasn't too happy about this. The fish or the batter was seasoned enough and you basically had to cover it in tartar sauce to get any flavor. But the fried mac and cheese balls ruled!\r \r SECOND TIME!!! - I met up with my bandmate before practice and was craving bbq and beer. So I got the pulled pork sandwhich with friend mac and cheese balls. This was awesome! Plus they had one of my favorite beers there. Weihenstephaner!! Totally kick arse!\r \r THIRD TIME!!! - I had just woken up from a nap and got a call from my brother (I figured he needed a ride). He invited me to meet him and a few friends for all you can eat WINGS! I think it is around 9 or ten bucks which I thought at first was pretty steep. They I actually tried the wings with all the different flavorings and wasn't too upset after that. The wings have tons of meat on them and are juicy as hell. We obviously made it into an eating competition where I got beat by my high brother and an endless pit named Mairead. I am a big guy and she was a small girl so you know how terrible I felt. Well, I felt sick in two ways. I got beat and I ate too much.\r \r This place rules. When it first popped up, I didn't think it would last long but it has held strong and continues to get more and more customers. I'll definitely be back for sure. Or for shizzle. Pros: wings, pulled pork, mac n chz balls Cons: off and on more

SOUL FIRE HAS SOUL 3/29/2010

I met the owner WYATT when he was just opening it, and it is phenominal with Jason heading the Kitchen. Great people. Good food then a quick beer at Wonder Bar. Great day! Pros: GREAT STAFF GREAT FOOD, Clean nice ambiance Cons: Harder to get a table now, less specials more

Editorial review from GrubHub 12/9/2008

I am from Texas, so I know my Soul food. Soul Fire is a needle in a haystack...no one in Boston comes close to their delicious BBQ and potato salad. Not to mention their incredible mac n' cheese with BBQ chips sprinkled on top! They are incredibly friendly and so worth every penny. They hit the nail on the head with southern comfort food. Everything is fantastic so you can't go wrong! more

I'll Give It One Star Because They Had BEER! 3/29/2008

So for 15.95 you get a ""hickory smoke"" greasy hen sized chicken breast that appears to not even have been hickory smoked (no smoke rings = not smoked) and a 3 bone baby back rib, plus a ice cream sized scoop of mashed potatoes and a dixie cup sized beans. WOW! Talk about over priced. What I got should be more like a lunch portion for 1/2 the price. I won't even go into how bad the service was in that place. There's better BBQ to be had in the burbs. Take it from me I managed the kitchen of a 300 seat world famous BBQ restaurant in the Midwest for 3 years until I moved back to Boston. How this 1/2 full on a Saturday night place stays open is mind boggling?! Pros: They had BEER Cons: Everything else more

Really Good BBQ 6/15/2007

Tried Soul Fire for the first time by ordering home delivery from a second party service. Food was delicious but the cost was not worth the size of the meal. It was good though but would probably not order again given the price. Pros: Delicious Flavor - BBQ was outstanding Cons: Way over priced for the portion received more

Great Ribs 5/23/2007

The place has the best ribs around. i also love there collard greens. however there chicken and macaroni need some serious work so stay on the rib track and you will have no problem. i also love the atmosphere Pros: prices Cons: Not Open late enough for the area more

Best BBQ In Boston 10/16/2006

Having grown up in Texas, I'm always on the lookout for great BBQ.\r Soul Fire has it. The ribs and pulled pork are amazing...and the service is great.\r Best in Boston (and Cambridge) - without a doubt Pros: Food, service, location Cons: no wine/beer/liquor more

Best Pulled Pork and a big variety of sauces! 8/7/2006

I've been looking forward to going to Soul Fire since I heard that it would be opening down the street from me. I had the pulled pork and the ribs, and then loaded up on all the sauces that you could serve yourself. The pulled pork was awesome, but the ribs could be a little bigger. My boyfriend had the same thing, except he ordered a side of mac and cheese...SO GOOD! We are definitly going back there! Pros: Pulled pork, sides, service Cons: could be cheaper more

Decent BBQ, but there's much better food in the Neighborhood 8/6/2006

Eager for a night of good BBQ, I wandered into this Allston spot. It was empty on a Thursday, so the food came quick and the service was friendly. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of their ""dry rub"" approach to BBQ. I'd prefer something less dry and more flavorful. Especially considering the fact that Allston is a veritable hot bed of culinary choices. Some of my favorite Indian, Thai, and Italian food in the city are just around the corner. I think future BBQ cravings will be satisfied with a cold beer and BBQ from the Sports Depot down the street. Pros: Good service, Great location Cons: Unimpressive "dry rub" BBQ, a little pricey more

Great Little BBQ Place Tucked in Streets of Allston 7/18/2006

I found out about this place through a review in the Dig and being a fan of bbq food I decided to check it out for myself. Great location, literally a few seconds from the harvard ave T stop which can makes it real easy to get to if you don't have a car. Anyways its not a traditional sit down restaurant, instead they have the menu on the wall and you go up and order at the counter. Pretty good selection of bbq stuff from ribs, to pulled pork, to some chicken. You get two sides with a platter and I must say their mac and cheese was freaking amazing, definitly recomend. Food was served in a timely fashion and was pretty happy with the portions/presentation of it all. The cool thing is you can select your own sauces so you aren't stuck with just one type. As we were eating, the owner came around as asked how we were enjoying it which I thought was a nice touch. He said as the place got a little more established they would be adding a few things here and there like some more apps(okra). I definitly see this place being real popular with the college crowd once school is in session. Price was reasonable as well. Check it out Pros: easy to access location to the T, friendly staff, quality food Cons: being allston parking is a rariety but we managed to find a spot close by with ease. more
