BEST ATMOSPHERE!!! 9/26/2009

My brothers and I went to a wine tasting and 5 course meal at Sophias. It was really entertaining and a fun night out for the guys. This place has improved dramatically since it changed ownership. I would go again- tasty food, full bar, and nice atmosphere for family or friends. Pros: Food, service, atmosphere more

Great Greek Food 6/6/2009

I brought my boyfriend to Sophia's after I read the positive reviews on Citysearch. I have to say that I was not dissapointed. I am a big fan of greek food, and have to say the food here was not only more authentic than other places, but hte amount of food you get for your money, is a great value. Although my boyfriend was able to finish his meal, I ended up taking half of mine home for later. \r \r The restruant itself is in a strange location, and the decor is a little less to be desired, but it makes up for it with their excellent service, and great food. Pros: Great Service, good food, good portions, AWESOME BAKLAVA more

Excellant Atmosphere and Great Food! 4/25/2009

I love Sophias, this place is great to take a date or the family. It's a very comfortable atmosphere, the owner is always onsite and makes you feel like you're his only customer. The food tastes great! I will go again. Pros: Tasty food, quick service, full bar, romantic ambience more

Great Flaming Cheese 1/23/2009

Great food and excellent service. I'm typically not the type of person to try new things, but when my husband insisted on eating at Sophia's Greek Cuisine I couldn't resist a night out no matter how hesitant I was to eat Greek food for the first time. My husband consistently eats at Sophia's for and he's always bragging about how much he enjoys their food. When we went for dinner we started out with an appetizer...it was some sort of flaming cheese and it was AMAZING. For dinner I ordered the Paidakia (lamb chops) that were marinated with the best herbs I had the opportunity of eating. It came with a salad too and their proportions are huge...which I like. I actually liked my husband's dinner more than mine although both were very good. He ordered the Arni Kleftiko which also was made with lamb. The sauce that came with his dish was really good I would actually love the recipe because it would taste great on anything. Everything tasted fresh and the restaurant really seemed to take pride on its wonderful food. I should also mention that the menu had a variety of choices like pasta and chicken if you don't want lamb. It was pretty busy when we went but you really feel like the waiter wanted you to enjoy your experience. I finally was able to tell why my husband made such a big deal about Sophia's food. Pros: Food and Portions Cons: Parking more

Awesome food and personal service 7/6/2008

It has now been my fourth time to Sophia's and each any ever time I have received great portions and a personal welcome from the owner. As a business owner myself, it is nice to see the owner mingling with his/her customers. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Greek food experience. \r \r George Lopez \r Pros: Freshness and quality Cons: none more

The Best Greek Experience 5/17/2008

I've just got back from yet another wonderful experience at my favorite Greek Restaurant and wanted to share my experience. I 'll be quite honest with you that I was completely floored with a review that I read here. Cold feeling, below average...Sophia's is nothing of the sort! My wife (who was born and raised on the island of Mykonos) and I are frequent visitors and I must say Sophia's is nothing short of spectacular! To be completely honest, we have tried time and time again to find a restaurant whose experience was just like my wife's experience back in Greece. We were truly fortunate to have found such a gem right in the middle of Orange County. \r \r Each time that we've visited, Sophia's has been crowded and by the looks of the customers, they were having just as good a time as we were! Now let's talk about the food, which we can't get enough of. First off, the Saganaki is full of flavor but never overpowering, the Mousaka was exactly what the doctor ordered! The portions were large enough that we able to enjoy them the next day. Each time that we've visited we were unable to finish everything! Now, you think that would be it, but Sophia's has continues to feed the soul through its fabulous entertainment. WOW! We're regular visitors on Fridays and just last week I laughed and clapped as my wife took to the floor to dance with the regular Belly Dancer. What a delight! Also on Saturday nights, we've sat and watched a troup of Greek Folk Dancers who kept the entire restaurant cheering for more!!!\r \r If you haven't had the chance to experience Greek hospitality away from Greece then this is the place! I promise you, you won't be disappointed and I am sure that you'll end up being regulars like my wife and I!\r \r Yasou!\r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r Pros: The whole experience! Cons: There are none! more

Hidden Treasure.....Wow! 5/17/2008

The Family and I were invited to this restaurant by my best friend who has been coming here for the past 28 years. The food is amazing, Great atmosphere, excellent service and very authentic. The food portions were large and the value was very good. The wait was about 30 minutes long but they always recomend that you make reservations for a party of 6 or more on the weekends. Despite the wait, the staff was very friendly and made sure we were comfortable...they made sure we sat in time to enjoy the Syrtaki Dancers ( Greek folk Dancers) show that evening. The entertainment was awesome... I would recomend this cozy restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Greek cuisine. Pros: Authentic, Large Portions, Good Value, Romantic, Cozy, Excellent Service Cons: Hard to Find ( the hidden jewel ) more

Unfortunatley under new ownership... 4/16/2008

I am so devasted! I recently went back to my favorite little Greek spot in Orange County after a few years of living in Pheonix only to find that they are under new ownership! The restaurant feels cold and empty and the service is horrible! Not to mention, the food quality has drastically decreased along with the sizes of the meals. \r Pros: location Cons: under new ownership more

Great food 2/27/2008

Hi, I love this restaurant. Its cozy and the staff is friendly. Pros: This is a cozy little restaurant with good food and nice staff. Bellydancing on Fri. and Sat. Cons: Parking lot entrance entrance on Kramer is easy to miss. Don't park at the Post Office parking lot by mistake. LOL! more

Best Authentic Real Greek Food in town!!! 4/23/2007

As I always love to go to a Traditional restaurant with originality. Sophia's proved that to me last Friday. I started with the Saganaki ( goat cheese flamed with Ouzo) , followed by Tzaziki dip, Hummos, Falafel, Lukaniko (GREEK Sausage). For dinner, my wife had the Grilled Halibut. I had the most amazing Mousaka served in a real Eggplant. My friends got the Lamb Chops and the Chicken Souvlaki .Talk about experiencing traditional Greek Food .... This was by far the best experience I had with Greek Food. I noticed that despite having a full house on Friday and a 30 minute wait at the door, every single customer in the restaurant was getting outstanding service and personal attention. That thirty minute wait was actually perfect for us because that gave us a chance to sit at the Bar and have a few drinks. They always recomend that you make reservations for parties of 6 or more. To top everything off, we watched the belly dance show. They have this show every Friday and Saturday. I felt that the staff and the owners of Sophia's Greek Cusine deserve my time to write this review about the Hidden Jewel Of Placentia, the Best Atmosphere, Best Greek Food and the The Best Staff. Sophia's is my new home away from home.\r more

AMAZING!!! 2/19/2007

I went to Sophia's on a Saturday night and I had a blast! The was live bellydancing and great music! Great atmosphere period. The food was amazing too. I ordered the flaming cheese and a hummus appetizer and both were so delicious. For the main course we had shrimp sauteed with fresh garlic, and basil and lamb chops that were so tasty. I love Sophia's and I recommend it to anyone who wants great greek food and a fun, ecletic atmosphere! more

Good Food , Unfreindly Service 12/28/2006

After many years of wanting to dine here, today my niece and I went for lunch. First impression we felt was that it was a very empty feeling restaurant , very cold and poor ambience. We went ahead and decided to stay and try the food. The menu is very lean, not many choices at all. We decided on the Hummus as our appetizer and Fafalel as our lunch with soup. The food was very enjoyable. Very fresh and light. The taste was great. However I found the service lacked in personality and though we were seating quickly time passed and we had to ask for our menus. We will not be returning to this restaurant even though we liked the food. There are far better Greek Restaurants with a more friendly and personable staff. Pros: Food good Cons: Service Personality little to be desired more

THE BEST GREEK RESTAURANT IN ORANGE COUNTY! 3/30/2006

What a delicious experience! I have been looking everywhere for a restaurant that serves authentic Greek food. I went there on a there on a Friday night and they were packed. Luckliy they have a full service bar where me and my husband waited to be seated. The dinner was great and the service was too. They also had a belly dancer, which was so much fun! I love this restaurant. Pros: Delicious Food, Excellent Service, Baclava! more

The Best Gyro Plate in Orange County 1/7/2006

Sophia's Greek Cuisine offers great food at reasonable prices-- the fact that it has stayed open for so long is a testament to the service it provides. This is a family owned and operated restaurant, and apparently they will shut down the restaurant for private parties. Sophia's also has a full bar. Replicas of Greek art adorn the walls as Greek music is played at a volume that is loud enough to enjoy, but quiet enough so that you can clearly hear the people surrounding you. On weekends, a belly dancer performs a 20-minute set that is extremely fun for men and women of all ages. I love Sophia's-- you will be thoroughly waited on by the family themselves. I definitely recommend ordering an appetizer, as well. The pan-fried goat cheese will be fired up right in front of you, and their domaldes are the best that I've ever had. Pros: appetizers, atmosphere, food Cons: small variety in menu, hand-calculated check more

Great restaurant! 4/14/2005

I've been going to this restaurant since the 80s (when it was across the street) and the food has always been wonderful. The price is right, the food is great, and the ambiance is good. The one thing I would say about this place is that since I began going to this restaurant as I got older (with friends, husband, etc.), the staff (specifically the owner) treated us differently (I think we may be the only ""young"" people who eat there). Overalll, I love this place and I won't stop eating there. Pros: food, ambiance, good value Cons: staff more

Nat'l Sales Manager 10/25/2004
