Editorial review from Citysearch 4/7/2014

This practice is the BEST in Philadelphia! I cannot speak highly enough of them and I'm convinced you won't find another group of doctors more professional, caring, willing to listen, competent and understanding. Everything about this practice - from the front desk to the doctors are all wonderful. In this day and age with all an office must compete with: cancelations, insurance, thousands of customers - they do a fantastic job. ""And have I waited for appointments"", you ask...well sure, we all have and I look at it this way: the majority of the time it's fine and even if it's longer than I bargained for I'm okay with that knowing that my children are in the best hands with this group of doctors.\r \r Our family has been with the practice for almost 4 years and we've seen change for the good. Both of my children (age 3 yrs, 9 mo and 18 mo) have been in their care and I couldn't be more satisfied. I was the 9.5 month pregnant lady interviewing the doctors to make sure it was the right choice regarding a pediatrician. I've seen all the doctors and love every one! Thank you, Advocare Society Hill Pediatrics, for everything. My husband and I would recommend you to any of our friends and family. more

Some Great Docs/ Poor Office Staff...Makes it not worth it 9/28/2011

We've been going to this practice for almost 10 yrs. In the beginning, we had nothing but positive things to say. Yes, the wait time was always very long, but the quality of care was worth it and, staff was attending to sick children (so the wait was understandable). We never felt like cattle and also felt like our concerns were listened to. The doctors have always been current with recent research and they always had a loving touch with our children. Keep in mind, that when we first started, the practice was not Advocare and all the founding doctors were still involved. (One has since left, such a shame too, but she was not happy with how the practice had expanded too rapidly). This reason that I mention this is that I am not sure if our recent difficulties are the result of the policies of Advocare or simply the carelessness of the office staff. Needless to say, we have had too many mistakes made by the office that cannot be ignored. Some of the mistakes in just the last 12 months have include: not returning calls for simple well check visits and then speaking to me VERY rudely stating, the error must be mine and that I more

Poor service 9/21/2010

I am so sorry to have takem my little girl to this office: apart from the obligatory 45min wait time every time (with a naked infant in a chillingly cold office) and the 5min the doctor takes to fill in the insurance form, only to collect the fee... all that and after 3 visits they failed to diagnose my little girl! Her new doctor took 5 min to do the same! \r As someone said- NEVER will they do anything above the call of duty- except! when they can bill the insurance company!!! more

Inept staff and unspectacular Doctors 8/9/2010

If you are looking for a good doctor, the majority of the doctors are fairly good, although I have never, in the 10 years we have used this practice, seen over and above the call of duty. N-E-V-E-R. From the time you walk into the practice you know it is all about your ability to raise revenue. The administrative staff of the practice frustrates and causes useless waste of time. Their ineptitude is amazing and their lack of communication with parents is infuriating. As long as your needs are very simple or you are willing to take precious time away from your life to spoon feed the staff, I would suggest you look for a practice elsewhere, just as we are going to do. The last straw was when they lost my childrens' files. more

BEST kids docs for my kids 5/26/2008

One of the best medical offices I have ever been to. High quality very good doctors. Of course you have to wait.......how else would they put in the sick kids which I am sure they have daily......They always add my sick kids in....I lived in Canada for 5 years...the previous negative comments are from spoiled people....try the medical care in any other country....you will then kiss the ground you walk on. Excellent staff at this office who look legitametly stressed out at times since they are caring for sick kids....YES MY SICK KIDS.........Thanks doctors!!!! Pros: Best kids docs Cons: I don't have any more

One of the best Peds Dr.s in philly 2/21/2008

Not only am I am happy mom when it comes to Society Hill Peds, but my two kids are as well. For the amount of sick and well children I see whenever I bring in my kids they do a good job. The staff is always nice and they know most of the children by name. My son has been going to them since he was two and I have seen the same people there. How could you expect someone to know your child if the just started going there. As for no info on vaccines that is not true, they offer info for the shots and they tell you what the side effects for those shots are. And they answer your questions. My son is now eight and no matter how sick he is he always wants to go to see his doctors and nurses there. So if a child likes the service that he get and doesn't mind a shot or two without any complaint then I know that the are doing a good job. As for my other child she will only let one person get near her with a needle. So if you let the staff at Society hill peds bond with you and your child then and only then will you get the effect thatI and my children have with the staff at Society Hill Peds more

My, how time changes people! 11/15/2007

My son was born medically fragile and I found Society Hill Pediatrics very helpful and very available during the first four years of his life. However, I found that the office staff which has change now consists of young girls through the Welfare to Work program. Yes, they are rude and not understanding. My son needs ongoing medical treatment and I cannot make anyone in that office understand that my son cannot miss school. They have afternoon appointments but claim it is only for sick patients. They have Saturday appointments but it is only for sick patients. I find that the quality of the office has change and for an office that does not take Medical Assistance you would think that the way the office is run that it is like a Welfare Office with the very rude young staff that they have.\r \r I to am looking for elsewhere for my son preferably at Chestnut Hill Hospital where I understand that they have an excellent Pediatrics practice. Pros: If you can get pass the rude people answering the phones to talk to someone - you are good. Cons: They charge $10.00 to fill out school forms and take weeks to give them back. Plus they run the office like a Free Clinic. more

I love Society Hill Pediatrics!!! 10/16/2007

My daughter is 3 months... She was born exactly four weeks earlier then the due date... I hadn't choosen a pediatrician yet but had been researching many. After spending her first four days of life in the hospital, my daughter & I were discharged. On that Thurs we were discharged, as perscribed by the Pediatricians at Pennsylvania Hospital I needed to get a pediatrician and have my daughter's weight checked within 5-7 days. I called and was given an appointment for the following week. I have been to the office a total of three times. The office is beautifully painted, has a well room for children scheduled for well baby appointments and a sick room for children who are ill. Each time I have had the opportunity to see a different doctor and different nurses. I believe the staff is very professional, compassionate, patient and caring. Pros: Atmosphere and staff. Cons: Not enough room for stroller storing.. Especially for those extra large strollers... more

Not personable, Not nurturing, like a factory. 9/12/2007

We just moved to Philadelphia & picked this office for our kids from recommendations. Though the office itself looks nice and friendly, the doctors do seem very indifferent and robot like. There is no personal time and you are rushed through everything as if it's a toy factory. The wait time is horrendous unless your appointment is at 8.30am and the doctors come in for only a few minutes. \r \r How about those shots? These nurses belong in city offices, they are so unfriendly & I have yet to see one who says something warm for a greeting. I have three children and have been to the office several times. Each time the nurses give shots or do blood-work, non of them try to sooth the children at all. They make you lay your kid flat on the surface despite asking if I can hold my infant/kids & just lunge at them as if they are squashing an ant. When they do blood-work, instead of a finger stick, they use a small razor blade type of instrument. These nurses are not nurturing, friendly nor inviting for the poor kids who have to get stabbed. They do not speak to you at all.\r \r I am definitely looking for a new pediatrician's office. I would do anything to find a pediatrician who takes time for each patient and shows that they care. Cons: Wait time, scary & unfriendly nurses more

Disappointing. 8/23/2007

This practice is basically a shot factory! After waiting 2 months to get an appointment for my infant, and having heard that the women (all female peds) who work at Society Hill Pediatrics were quite good, I'd expected so much better. I've taken my baby twice, but I'll be looking for a new pediatrician now. Incredibly cranky and unhelpful office staff, about two minutes with a doctor who asked almost no questions beyond which shots my baby had, then a slew of shots. We've just moved to Philly and miss our former pediatrician, who was a wonderful woman who supported breastfeeding 100% and had encouraged us to do research on immunizations/shots, ask questions, and feel free to wait on some of the vaccines. She even had two nurses to give the shots -- which cuts painful time in half for the baby! It was a nice touch... Society Hill couldn't be more different. The doctor and nurse even neglected to mention that the vaccines could cause side effects (nor did they give printed info), and then there was no nurse on duty to answer ""urgent"" questions on vaccine reactions. Very disappointing! more
