Good rides but crowded and expensive 7/12/2006

We usually go to Great Adventure at least once a year. We love the rides. I'm the only one brave (or crazy) enough to go on the roller coasters. My favorite one is the Batman one because I love the coasters that loop around. My kids love the kiddie rides and my son is old enough so he can go on some of the bigger rides. It's closer to NYC than my other favorite park, HersheyPark. I'm only giving 3 stars because it's expensive if you aren't lucky enough to get a buy one get one free Coke can or some other coupon (we just used on from a NY Daily News Promotion where if you collected tickets from the paper, admission is $20 and changer per person. Still very expensive, but better than they want at the gate. The food is also very expensive and not that great. You can't bring any food or drinks in because you are THOROUGHLY checked by the metal detector people at the gate and they will look inside all bags also. The lines are also extremely long for every single ride. If it wasn't for those 2 things, it would be perfect. more

Just Say No To Great Adventure! 4/17/2006

I refuse to go to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey anymore. The bad experiences I have had there far outweigh the fun times. The park is not well maintained, major rides are always broken, there is never enough staff around and it is poorly managed. I had a season pass for a couple seasons, but the horrendous lines and waits are just not worth it. more

Great local amusement park 4/16/2006

Great Adventure as locals call it (no one local says Six Flags) is a great amusement park although as an adult I do not think it is nearly as good as it was years ago. The prices are very high although season passes are reasonable if you plan on going a few times. The rides are great but the lines are long. I find that the type of people are not as good as it used to be but the kids love this place especially teens. more

SFGA - Great Park, Good Price, Bad Lines 9/12/2005

Now, Six Flags great adventure is definitely the best theme park in the NYC TRI-STATE area. The rides are great, the park is clean, the distance isn't that bad if you live in the NYC area. But the crowds are what kills it. I've experienced crowds at theme parks before ( I.E. Disney World and Busch Gardens ) but SFGA is in a league of it's own as far as lines are concerned. The lines at Six Flags are horrible. Even for the less popular, less thrilling rides. For example even though the park has the new 2005 record breaking King-Da on it's list of attractions. The 1999 no-record breaking Skull Mountain still has a 30 to 45 min wait for it. How is this possible? Are there really always that many people at this park? So if you planning a trip here be ready to spend 75% of your day waiting on lines for your rides. Also as side note, food at the park is ridiculously priced. So if you going to the park, try to bring your food in a cooler. This way you can have lunch for free in your car when you get hungry. Hope this was helpful. more

Super safari 9/4/2005

Six Flags Great Adventure is a nice local amusement park for New Yorkers and New Jersey residents. It has three decent parks: the Wild Safari (drive thru safari- no rides), the Great Adventure (tons of roller coasters including the new Kingda Ka), and the Hurricane Harbor.(lots of thrilling water rides) I particularly liked the Wild Safari. My family loved the animals, especially the giraffe. (who came right next to our car and stuck his head on top of our sunroof!) The safari is 4.5 miles long, and will take about 1-3 hours depending on how slowly you move. Admission is quite pricey, but Coke cans and fast-food chains usually have coupons. The safari cost $17.99+1.08 sales tax for a total of $19.07. more

Make sure you go on a weekday 8/21/2005

We got the season passes here early on in the year so we could really take advantage of going often before the summer crowds started. Its really a lot of fun but keep your eye on your kids because this place is HUGE! lots of rides especially for the toddlers now that thye built a separate area called Balins Jungle. its deifnitely worth buying the season pass if you plan to go more than once in the year.its about $40 per person individually and the season pass is about $85 per person. so after two and 1/2 times, the pass pays for itself. more

Great Adventure 8/17/2005

Six Flags Great Adventure has 13 roller coasters. It has the tallest and fastest roller coaster around, Kingda Ka. While this is a great place to go, it is expensive. Also, on the weekends, it can get very crowded. That could mean long lines. Food is expensive in the park. There is a six acre section for smaller children. For the money, however, I think there are too few rides for small children. There are some good shows and of course, fireworks. more

Excellent 8/13/2005

This is one of the best parks in the country. They have awesome rides, the lines aren't too long, and the park is in excellent condition. They have the top ride in the world, Kingda Ka, so try to go on a dreary weekday in September when everyone is back in school. The only problem is that it's expensive, with admission around 50.00 per adult and roughly 10.00 to park. The food is expensive as well, but it is definitely a great park. more

Great Adventure 8/5/2005

Six Flags Great Adventure is a great place for teenagers. There are a lot of rollercoasters. Lines can be long. Little kids will not have as much fun and the park is not cheap. Older kids will have a blast and new rides are constantly being added. As with any park, food and drinks inside are expensive so bring your own. more

Great Fun at Great Adventure! 8/1/2005

LOVE Great Adventure, the park is HUGE with lots of different rides. Great areas for every age group. There's a new tiger show and the Balin's Jungle area is lots of fun for the whole family. Rides for the younger set, plus a GREAT splash playground. Plus they have a Loony Tune area that the kids love. The animals in the safari are awesome to watch after a full day of rides and shows. We go at least once a week and will definitely be renewing our season's passes each and every year. Highly recommend. more

Need a day out....Here's a Fun theme park 6/21/2005

Makes for a fun day out! Generally speaking, this park is kept pretty clean, and they offer newer or older well-kept rides and amusements. You pay one general admission price. They take pictures upon your entrance and offer shows inside the park too, which you can purchase for an extra cost. Some of the amusement games or extra rides (like a fling ride that shoots you into the air) inside will cost you extra though. So many food choices inside that are extra money too (they don't allow outside food in the park). A huge selection of fun, action packed rides...enough to spend a full day, if not more, with kids or adults of all ages. Depending on your budget, you may find it expensive, but you can usually find coupons to use at the gate at fast food chains or on soda cans or even in coupon books. They also offer season passes as well. more
