Good Indian Buffet 4/16/2006

Sitar India Palace is in a not-so-great location, but the food is quite tasty. We always get the buffet, so I've tried a lot of things. The Paneer is always good - sometimes mattar sometimes saag. They also do a good job with the eggplant dish that I won't even try to spell. Their naan is good and they offer a second bread that I thought was just undercooked naan but is actually something else and it is good as well. My husband enjoys the Chicken Tikka Masala. They also have desserts - including rice pudding and they've recently added a caramel pudding. They also have the dough balls in the sauce (no idea what they are called - sorry!). There can be a wait on the weekends, so come early or be ready to wait. My only complaint is that I think it is overpriced. The buffet is $13.95/person plus tax - not including any drinks. The atmosphere inside is nice, but the abandoned stripmall it's in leaves something to be desired. more

Best Indian food in Durham/Chapel Hill 4/16/2006

I've been to every Indian restaurant in the Durham/Chapel Hill area, and this is the one that I always recommend to anyone who wants good Indian food. It's true, the prices are a little high, but that's the case with most Indian restaurants. Plus, the meal is well worth the price. I like going to the weekend buffets. They also have a great vegetarian selection, and a clean, pretty atmosphere. Oh yeah, and if you're a student, be sure to bring your ID for a discount! more

decent Indian food 3/18/2006

I have been to better places for Indian food, but for the triangle area, this may be the best Indian food available. The staff is nice, the selection is good and the food is tasty. It may not be original Indian food some people from bigger cities are used to, but it does taste good and the selection of vegetarian entrees is above average for a town like Durham. The prices are okay, considering portionsize and taste. But it is not the cheapest way to have a good lunch. If you are craving Indian, this is the place to go in Durham. more

good by durham standards 3/17/2006

I've certainly had better Indian food in other places, but this is probably the best that you can get in Durham. I think that it is a little on the pricey side, considering what you are getting, but I think it's acceptable when I'm really craving Indian. I haven't tried any of their desserts, so i can't comment on them - but their food is pretty decent. more

Yummy indian food! 9/3/2005

Sitar India Palace is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Durham. While a bit on the pricey side (most Indian restaurants are), the food is quite good, and I'm a big fan of their all you can eat buffet. Their masala dosa is OUT OF THIS WORLD good!! Kind of like a crepe, made of lentil and rice flours, it's crispy and chewy, rolled up with a savory filling of potatoes and peas, served with a delicate lentil sauce on top. If you go to Sitar India Palace, you must try it! Their Chicken Tikka Masala is great too. more

My favorite 8/20/2005

Sitar Indian restaurant is without a doubt my favorite Indian restaurant in the states. I have been to a number of Indian restaurants around the triangle, in Chicago, Washington D.C., and a few others in NY and elsewhere, and I find Sitar consistently satisfies me the most. On some nights they have a buffett. Normally I am leary of buffets, but their buffet is high quality. The owner is always around and is very friendly. One of my all time favorite restaurants. more

OK food 7/31/2005

The food is okay. I would say it's average indian food. The atmosphere is quiet...about what you would expect at the average indian restaurant. If you're looking for an exciting or different experience, I wouldn't recommend this place. more

Average 7/31/2005

This was okay. It was your average, run of the mill Indian restaurant. The atmosphere was nothing spectacular...quiet. OVerall, it was just okay. more
