Cannot style hair. Also as with most African American salons in nyc, the female stylists seem angry and unfriendly. My styslist was late for my last appointment and when she came in, didn't even apologize for her lateness and barely said hello. Such a simple thing to be nice especially to new customers but amazingly enough, impossible for some. Hoping this review teaches the stylist a lesson not to take customers for granted, especially in this recession. more

Sophia is the best. I've been to various hairstylist in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Long Island & NJ. Sophia is the best. She is downtown to earth and professional. She would let you know what is wrong with your hair, as well as what products to use. Once I sat in her chair, I felt very comfortable and at ease. Finally found a stylist that listens and I am extremely satisified. I have never had anyone take so much care to make sure I look my best. Sophia walked me through every step of the process and explained in detail what products, techniques and styling tools would work best for my hair. She takes her time with each client no matter how busy. An outstanding job and I don't mind coming from Central NJ to NYC. Because I am please with the results. I definitely recommend her. Sophia has been styling my hair for about a year now. I find her to be professional, courteous and I trust her with my hair. I have been getting my hair done by Sophia for a little over a year. I was in desperate need of a professional hair stylist to fix my hair problems. After always wearing short hairstyles, I made the choice to grow my hair out and get a weave. My main concern, as any woman’s, was that my weave look real. It takes a lot to trust someone to put in your first weave, but I was extremely surprised with the outcome. Friends and family couldn’t even tell! My first session was amazing. She was professional, talented, and extremely knowledgeable of every product she used on my hair. Sophia listens to what you want, and delivers. All of the products used are high quality and can be bought directly at the salon. Appointments are set in advance, so you’ll never spend hours waiting in the salon, and feeling rushed when you’re turn is up. There’s also an option to make your appointment online. Sophia provides snacks and beverages, which is a huge plus. It’s a completely comfortable and stress free environment. Pricing is definitely competitive with Manhattan salons, and you’ll regularly receive emails for her promotional offers as well. I have personally seen Sophia do several styles and it’s safe to say she is very versatile. She can do short and long hairstyles, weaves, colors (temp-perm), and even eyelashes. I feel lucky to have snagged a great stylist its only a matter of time before she branches out and opens her own salon. I hope this review helps you. I first met Sophia at a salon we previously worked at in Midtown. I have never seen such dramatic transformations to everyday women. She takes her time with treatments, styles and precision cuts. She first cut my hair in about Jan'08 and I never turned back. I was experiencing a lot of breakage from a bad color job I had a couple months prior. We talked for weeks about cutting my hair and what styles we can choose from. We ended up with a very chic angled bob that I absolutely adored. I have never been to Sophia without someone asking me,""who cuts your hair "",or where do you go?. Since then I've tried different bobs, shorter ""paperboy"" cuts and now my most recent and Edgy copper blonde mohawk. She tells me all the things I need to know about healthy hair maintenence before I'm even curled. Also easy tips to follow to keep my hair looking good. l can honestly say she has transformed me and gave me confidence I didn't even know was there. Sophia is great! I first went to her for a cool, 'a bit on wild side' cut with platinum blonde highlights. She is very creative, she listens to what you want and then comes up with a fabulous look that just works! She also has great recommendations on what products are best for your hair as well as tips on how to handle your hair so that the 'style' lasts longest till you can make it back to the salon for a 're-do.\r \r I absolutely recommend her for anyone who wants that look that will have people stopping you in the street or just turning their heads as you walk past them. Sophia is truly awesome! When I first came to see her about 2 years ago, my hair had breakage and was over processed from too many chemicals.
