The showbox doesn't care about its customers. They will sell you a ticket and make you stand in a crowd for hours without telling you anything. If the act is 5 hours late they won't tell you. I would never go to another show at the Showbox. Good luck trying to get your money back! more

BARS 11/20/2008

We went to the Lucinda Williams show on Nov 14th, the show was great, but the bartender was rude and way out of his league, we had drinks at the bar, and to see the show we had to turn aroungfd to watch her perform, never moving from our spot, upon turning to take a drink, both of our drinks were gone along with the money, the bartender said he didn't do it, and the female bartender said if the drink was not in your hand they will take it, and the money is considered a tip (normally this is called theft) upon listening to other customers at the bar they were not happy with his service and had to walk over to the bar and get a drink and then return to there spot at his bar, also, he would poke customers with a stick and yell at them to get away from the front of his bar, the lad has no business working in a club of this standard, (note, it was the bar by the ladys room) I and the group I was with feel he should be dismissed, gives the place a bad name more

too late.... 5/7/2008

My girlfriend and I went to see Augustana at the Showbox last night but didnt actually get to see them play. The tickets said the concert started at 8...and I understand you usually add about an hour and a half or so until you see the "headliner" perform. So, we got to the showbox at about 6 to have some drinks in the Green Room, which was a very fun experience for us...good food and drinks. If your in the Green Room then you get into the show first before the the line of people outside, which is nice. So when we got inside, feeling a little buzzed at this point, we grabbed a table and ordered another drink from the bar which is when I asked "when will Augustana be on?", and their reply was "there scheduled for 11pm." 11pm??? are you kidding me...I am 25 years old, have a job M-F, and live about 45 min away from Seattle...so I basically spent $55 bucks for tickets, $20 bucks for parking and couldnt stay awake long enough to stay to see them play. It was a great place, but wish they didnt start 3 hours after they had advertised. Not sure if I will go back because of this experience. Pros: Great place to see music Cons: Started far to late more

Don't sleep on the showbox 5/17/2007

I've been to many shows in Seattle. This place is damn near the best. The crew is on point, the security does their job, and the sound delivers. Capable of having 1000+ shows and one of the prime spots to see the best hip hop shows in town. Pros: Sound Cons: Bathrooms more

Best place to see a concert 5/6/2007

Floor seating would be a nice addition, but for acoustics, view, drinks while you watch and ambiance, this place is unbeatable more

Best concert venue and drinks. 11/23/2006

I love the atmosphere when you walk into Showbox. Open layout and bar set-ups on both sides of the venue. Best place for concerts, drinks and just a cool place to hang out with ya girls or boys. more

Love the Showbox! 8/31/2006

I have found bands here which I'm sure were difficult to book yet somehow Showbox did it. Thank you. The bartenders are always super-nice to me, but then I'm always super-nice to them. That's how it works: I smile when I make a request, they smile when they pour. I've always had a great time and it seems everyone else was having a great time as well. It's a nice-sized venue where it's large enough to get some good acts to Seattle but small enough to chat with performers after the show. Pros: Good location, good drinks Cons: food. but who needs it, really. more

It's all about the music! 8/11/2004

If touring talent comes through Seattle, there's a good chance they will come through here. The Showbox has a history of popularity, so is it a great club? Not really. No unique decor. No sense of high-class. This is really a just decent club that has stood out because of Seattle's deficiency in good performing locations. The dance floor is spacious (for Seattle) and there are a few seating areas - which are not comfy. The two large bars and one small bar have mixed talent in bartenders. I recommend coming to The Showbox to check out your favorite touring artists, but not to check out the usual weekly club scene. This location doesn't offer anything notable, except the talent that tours through. Pros: Spacious Dance Floor, Touring Artists Cons: Can get VERY hot more

The Showbox Rocks!!! 6/13/2004

I've been to the Showbox several times over the past three years and it's my favorite. Everyone's nice, it's clean, and the set-up is really cool. Lots of people show up and dance and the vibe is great. With the exception of being pushed or shoved occasionally due to the crowdedness, the place is great. I only disliked the prices of the drinks overall. Some extra room to get to the bathrooms would be nice. Pros: Nice people, Big dance floor, Clean Cons: , Crowded, Parking sucks more

A great place for a show or to club 6/23/2002

The Showbox is great venue because of its flexibility. You can come here to see a concert, go clubbin, or both. There is alot of room here and the sound is good. Pros: size, diversity of venue more

Rockin' joint 5/20/2002

Some of my best nights out have been at the Showbox. Seen everyone from Roni Size and Prince Paul to Sir Mix-A-Lot playing with the Presidents of the United States of America--talk about memories. It's the best venue in town for a mid-sized show. more

Perfect size venue 5/15/2002

The best concert I've ever seen was here: Weezer in the summer of 2000. The venue size is ideal and the sound quality is excellent. No comparison to mammoth venues like Key Arena with their mushy, hollow sound that all blends together. more

  • The Venue
Generally, there's a young, attractive and fairly polite audience, but the tone always varies with the nature of the headlining band. In the early 1900s, the Showbox was a peep-show venue for lonely sailors. Then it became a concert hall and later a comedy club, before returning to rock in the mid-1990s.

    The Experience
The Showbox always books solid acts, and the acoustics here are among the best of local clubs. Art-deco pillars and warm, pumpkin-colored walls make for aesthetically pleasant surroundings. Adventurous types head for the spring-loaded dance floor in front of the main stage, while those looking for clean sight lines and comfortable seating grab the first come, first served tables and booths along the upper-level bar. The adjacent Green Room gives show-goers a comfortable spot for pre-show cocktails, while the popular hot dog stand helps tired patrons refuel after the show with its signature cream cheese-topped hot dogs.
