Hello my Coney Island baby 2/28/2006

The rumors are true: The hipsters sometimes come to congregate here. And why shouldn't they? At Shorty's Coney Island you get to hang out in booths reminiscent of high school cafeterias. Beers are cheap. There's Galaga. OK, so it's no Nickel Nickel, the staple arcade for me growing up where old school games were a nickel and newer ones the standard 25 and 50 cents. But where else can I go and order a PBR and a hot dog with kraut, cheese and onion (without receiving a dirty look or a double-take!) and play Time Crisis to my heart's content. Nowhere. And really, nowhere, as Shorty's no longer has Time Crisis--but they still have Buck Hunter and a variety of other video games and pinball machines. Ah, Shorty's, the one place I can go in Belltown without fear of being eaten alive. more

Pinball 1/17/2006

I haven't tried the hot dogs, but the drinks are strong and they have pinball machines and video games. If you are not a pinball master, "Martian Attack" is a good game to try as you can play it for a while and feel like you are getting a decent score even if you really aren't any good at all. The bar doesn't have much in the way of ambiance and attracts a crowd that doesn't really want to be bothered, but if you are in the mood for some pinball this is the place to go. more

An old favorite 9/9/2005

I used to love going to Shorty's when I partied in Belltown a lot. It was always a great place to end the evening--generally not crowded, cheap beer, good service AND, you have the benefits of getting a Danger Dog without having to walk down to the Frontier Room or stand in the long Meat Market line. more

non-captitol hill hipsters! 7/16/2005

shortys is great....you get pinball, ms pacman(although it's 50 cents...what's up with that???)...veggie dogs and chili dogs...It's conveniently located on my favorite strip which consists of the nightlight, the lava lounge, shorty's and the crocodile...parking is usually not impossible...this is a great way to make belltown part of your bar hopping scene.... more

A great dive 6/2/2005

Cheap beer, good eats, video games, pinball, and a jukebox. What more do you need? This isn't a place for yuppies who want to be seen. A younger crowd with a predominantly punk flavor seems to be the mainstay for the bar, but you'll certainly see all slices of the city represented. This is the place to go to hang out with a few friends, have some beers, and, if you're hungry, enjoy the excellent hot dogs. Your wallet will be happy with your decision. Don't try to bring a large crowd here. Shorty's has some booths and a bar that isn't really conducive to groups of more then 4. Also, remember it's a dive bar. No one is going to care if you walk in with the latest outfit from Club Monaco or J. Crew. If I can leave you with one suggestion, it's to try one of their hot dogs at some point. They're good and loaded with fixings. You'll quickly realize this was the missing element from your late night out drinking with friends. more
