awful service, prices higher than online 11/22/2011

so i was shopping here the other day with my boyfriend. i was planning to buy a couple of pairs of shoes since they were doing a buy one get one half off... after trying on about 6 pairs of shoes, the guy who was helping me told me ""i cannot bring you any more, i have to go home sometime"" and i found out from the cashier that he was closing the store and they were still open for another hour! he was extremely rude to me, and if i wasnt absolutely in love with the shoes i bought i would not have bought anything after that remark, especially since they work on commission. after buying my shoes (i spent $250) i looked them up online and found that one pair i got for $169.95 in the store was $145 online, and the other pair (i ended up getting half off the store's price of $139.99) but it was marked at online $106 on their website. IT IS NOT WORTH SHOPPING AT THIS STORE. more

the Basement is like a hunting for buried treasure 9/27/2009

This review is for the basement of shoe mania. The ground floor is its own beast. The stairs to the basement are on the right towards the cash register when you enter the store from 14th. Down there, you can literally wade through boxes of $20 shoes, digging for a pair in the right size. It can be amazing, like when you find a pair of slick, comfy shoes that fit after 5 seconds of lookiing. Or it can be frustrating, like when you find only one of the shoes and not the matching one. It is kind of crazy. I normally go once a year and end up buying a pair or two. The Shoe Mania on Bond and Broadway is a way more normal shoe store. Pros: Has nice shoes for cheap ($20 or so) Cons: Have to get really lucky to find a pair in the right size more

large selection, but you're on your own 7/21/2009

Shoe Mania would be a great place if it had lots of staff, or lots of space so you can look for things on your own. Unfortunately, it has neither. Always crowded (don't know why), and never helpful, only go to this place is you are the most hardcore shoe shopper and can go at it all on your own. If you think you might need the slightest inkling of help, then just save yourself some time and go elsewhere. Pros: gigantic variety Cons: no help at all more

Avoid at All Costs. 4/19/2009

This store has the absolute rudest sales staff. They are not helpful, they downright refuse to provide any type of decent service, and they truly act as if you should be thanking them for being in this sub-par store. They never have your size and they try to push the wrong size on customers. Most of the shoes in this store have some type of defect, which they will inform you to ""deal with."" In addition, to top it off, they change the prices as they wish (no set prices for products). As a New Yorker, I am vowing to stay away from this poorly managed, disorganized, RUDE, rip-off store. I vow, no more Shoe Mania again. Beware- Go elsewhere. Pros: Leaving the store. Cons: Everything. more

THIS STORE IS A HUGE RIP OFF AND HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE 1/23/2009

this store is very disorganized and always has a ""super sale"", which is usually not worth the wait for your shoes, or having to deal with the employees. i bought shoes recently and waited about 15 minutes for someone to get my shoes, there are about ten employees standing around, and about two employees actually getting shoes. if you approach another employee about getting a different pair of shoes other than the ones you've been wait 15 minutes for, they give you an exasperated look and tell you to wait for the man who is getting the other pair. i probably would have bought three pairs of shoes there rather than one, but the employees are so unwilling to help you, it makes you wish they had no business at all. to top it all off, alot of the shoes have no price, so i asked an employee how much my adidas were before the discount, and he said $70 without even batting an eye, but when i checked out i was charged $45 after the 50% discount. it was only an ok deal and had to put up with alot of ------- and left feeling ripped off and angry. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! DSW RIGHT DOWN THE STREET IS MUCH BETTER!!!! Cons: rude rude rude rude more

SHOEMANIA EATS DONKEY BUTT 12/6/2008

Shoemania does not stand behind the products that they sell online. I have lived in NYC for the last 8 years and have dealt with this store in person multiple times. However, my first online experience with them was absolutely horrendous. I ordered a pair of Camper boots from them in size 38 via Amazon Marketplace. They were too small, so I called them to get a return authorization number and returned the shoes at my own expense. At the same time, I had them send me a pair of size 39s. These fit. Everything was fine until a few days later, while on vacation in NYC (I now live in CA), when I noticed that the shoes were leaking water in from the bottom (through the sole of the shoe -- not the top) while I was walking around in some drizzle. The bottoms of my socks were soaked. I called Shoemania to ask them to replace the shoe. They told me that it was my problem to call Camper and deal with it. I told them that they sold me the shoes so they should stand behind what they sell. They continued to argue that it was my problem as the consumer. They also said ""The shoes are not waterproof."" My response was that the shoes did not even meet minimum standards and that I did not even own a pair of Gore-Tex waterproof shoes and none of my other shoes ever leaked this way. It was not until I threatened them that I would show up at their physical store the next day that they finally seemed friendlier and more accommodating. So I went to Shoemania's store on 853 Broadway the next day and they allowed me to exchange the offending pair of shoes for another pair. After being dragged through the mud, I left less-than-favorable feedback about my experience on Amazon's feedback system and they even had the gall to CALL me to complain that I left negative feedback. They even retaliated by calling me a liar. NEVER EVER BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE! Pros: location Cons: customer service more

Just for buying cheap. Might as well shop online. 11/18/2008

Uff! This shop is (like most shops) only about selling, except there is no glamor or hiding that fact. Staff are sometimes trying to do their job. But the main purpose of this dump is to get into your wallet and empty it. They even have some persons (not in store clothing) that pretend to be helpful, but that just try to talk you into bad buys. This is not a shop, it's feels more like buying stolen goods...cheap and awful service at it's worst. Pros: probably cheap... Cons: crowded, it's a shoe 'dump' more

DO NOT SHOP HERE 10/21/2008

By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The staff is extremely rude and incompetent. And honestly the shoe selection is nothing special. You would be better off in any department store. I had the worst experience trying to exchange a pair of shoes. I asked a staff member to bring me 3 different shoes and without telling me, he passed me onto another staff member and then pretended like I had never asked him for the shoes. He made me wait for half an hour and completely wasted my time. Then the cashier lady was even ruder and refused to give me a receipt for my merchandise that was final sale. First and last time they will get my business. Avoid at all costs. Cons: Too many to write more

Rude Staff 2/10/2008

All I want to say that the the staff is extremely rude and not a bit helpful and I never been treated worse as a consumer. After reading there reviews I guess it's all been said before and I'm not the only one who had this awful experience. Avoid the store if you can. more

Horrible customer service, STAY AWAY 12/22/2007

Worst customer service ever. The employees are not interested in anything but their commission and are extremely rude and unhelpful. Don't bother asking for the Manager, Mike, because he is unprofessional and completely unaccommodating. When seeking help for an exchange, he put my bag on the counter in my face and said there was nothing he could do. DON'T SHOP AT SHOE MANIA at Union Square. more

poor customer service 9/10/2007

Nice collection of shoes with affordable prices and sale items. However, my experience with customer service was less than stellar. I waited for almost 10 minutes to have the salesman tell me that they didn't have my size. In the interim, I asked if I could be helped... to which another salesman said to me: ""do you have money to spend? If you have money to spend, then I'll help you.""\r \r At this point, I immediately left the store and do not plan on making any purchases at this store in the near future. more

satisfied shopper 6/28/2007

As opposed to all of the other reviews, I had a great experience at shoe mania. The prices were reasonable and affordable and the service was great! I asked for my sizes and in a matter of 5 minutes I had my shos to try on. They were attentive to the changes I needed and I would defenitely go back, it was a great shopping experience. Pros: price, service more

Avoid this store 6/25/2006

The worst customer service possible. The manager is rude and entitled and lied as well in order to not accept an exchage in 24 hours. He pretty much told me I was an idiot for asking and accused me of coming in with a damaged box even though a day ago they had given me the same box. I will never shop there again. Their prices are no better than any other store either. Clearly a store destined for becoming a tourist trap as any self respecting new yorker will soon catch on more

AWFUL PEOPLE 4/13/2006

tried to exchange a pair of shoes. The manager approached me, to ""help"" me, by saying ""WHAT DO YOU WANT?"" I explained situation and apparently ""what do you want?"" is the only phrase this person is capable of saying. extremely extremely rude!!! Needless to say they wouldn't exchange my shoes for another pair. Paying customers should be treated as such..not like they're doing them a favor by ""allowing"" them to spend their $$ there. never ever will I return and I'm letting all of my friends know how frustrating this experience was. ICK Cons: everything more

Don't bother 11/21/2005

Where do they find these ""managers"". Not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Bought 2 pairs of shoes. One pair felt too small, bought it back within two days. The manager says ""Read the redeipt"" (It was stamped with FINAL SALE"". I ask if I can just exchange it for a size half bigger. The manager says read the receipt. I ask again. And so on. So now I've got myself an $80 pair of shoes I can't wear. NEVER SHOP THERER AGAIN. more

Avoid these guys... 5/24/2003

There are plenty of shoe stores in New York. I bought a pair of $200+ shoes, wore them once indoors, tried to EXCHANGE them for a better fit, and the rude (called me an idiot under his breath) manager would not accept them. These guys don't deserve your business and will never get mine back. Pros: Selection Cons: Return "policy" more

SHOE MANIA STINKS 1/12/2003

I purchased two pairs of shoes, one for my girlfriend, the other for me. The sales person gave the the wrong size for starters, when I went back to exchange they were out. I picked out another pair, but when I gave them to her for Christmas they were too small. I took them back but the wouldn't because it was a ""final sale""......I wanted to exchange for a 1/2 size larger but they wouldn't accommodate. The store manager treated me like I was scamming him and told me to run home to my mommy when I pleaded that I simply wanted my girlfriend to have a pair of shoes that fit properly. He was totally unwilling to work with me and exchange for another size even though his sales person gave me the wrong size to begin with. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time with Shoe Mania. more

It's a great show store. 10/18/2002

My husband my sister and I were visiting New York in September and stumbled across a Shoe Mania Store. My sister and I being shoe freaks thought we found the greatest thing in the city. We visited 3 stores and between us purchased many pairs of shoes. The sales people at all of the stores were very helpfull. It's a definate stop on our next trip....We wear size 5 shich are often hard to find. Pros: good deals, small sizes, good stock Cons: crowded more

Brusque and rude salespeople. 10/11/2002

I bought a pair of Ecco shoes at the Shoe Mania b/w University and 5th for $89.95. When I wore them out the next day, one shoe sprang a hole after 15 minutes of walking on perfectly even sidewalk. I brought them back the next day, and the salespeople were very rude. One woman pretty much snapped at me when I told her I needed a refund or exchange for defective shoes. The manager was out to lunch, but when he got back, he said a refund was impossible, but exchanged them for another pair. At no point did anybody apologize for the inconvenience. Instead, they acted as if I was inconveniencing them! Shoe Mania has been around for a while, but you have to wonder why. The service was brusque at best, and downright rude at worst. more
