$300 Chinese Shirts 5/11/2009

I hate to give a bad review to any custom clothing shop in Denver because there are so very few to choose from. At this point I've tried just about all of the establishments I felt were worth trying. Unfortunately, of all the places I've tried, this place comes in last. \r \r First of all they outsource their shirt making to Chinese company! I did find this out up front but I figured I'd give it a shot any way. They have an unimpressive selection of ""standard"" fabrics that start at around $150 but they stipulate a 3 shirt minimum. I ended up ordering 2 made to measure from their higher quality shirts with no minimum at $300+ a piece which isn't outrageous for a quality garment. Sadly the final product was anyting but quality. Turns out there's nothing more disappointing than paying 300 bucks for a shirt with a tag that says ""made in China"". To top it off the finished shirts had fused cuffs and collars and no split yoke. For the uninformed, those aren't quality attributes. \r \r The fit of the shirt was actually pretty good and was the only redeeming factor. The cuffs were 2 inches too big but fixable.\r \r When they took initial measurements I asked for a shirt that was short enough that I could wear untucked. An easy enough request for every other shirt maker I've worked with. Unfortunately they didn't compensate and lengthen the rise of the side of the shirt when shortening the overall length. What I ended up with was 600 dollars in shirts that looked ridiculous untucked, yet the sides weren't long enough to tuck in. When I asked what it would take to make it right I was basically told I could buy two more shirts.\r \r So instead of just redoing the shirts their remedy was to add a couple ""patches"" to the sides of the shirts so they will stay tucked in. Now at least they're wearable but it's pretty shoddy work at the price point. To top it off this whole ordeal took over three months to complete. \r \r I did give a rating of 2 because the shirt did fit pretty good but I just can't recommend this place. With places in China like jantzentailor dot com that sell made to measure shirts for around 50 bucks there's really no reason to pay someone here in town an extra 100 to 250 bucks to take your measurements.\r \r After spending quite a bit of money trying out a handful of places around town I can make the following recommendations.\r \r At Concord Custom Shop and Tailor in Cherry Creek (303-399-0557) you can get quality made to measure shirts that are made in the USA starting at $150 to $200 with no minimum I believe. \r \r At about the $300 price point, at Andrisen Morton in Cherry Creek (303-377-8488) you can get very nice Omega shirts which are made in Canada or for a little more they also offer Hamilton shirts which are very nice and made here in the USA. \r \r For the very discerning gentleman and clothing connoisseur Evan DeLaney (evandelaney dot com) will come to your home or office and offers true custom hand made shirts that range anywhere from $350 on up. He also offers a made to measure line that starts under $200 I believe.\r Pros: Friendly, Convenient Cons: You're on your own if something goes wrong. more
