This is simply the best place to go for Thermal Reconditioning! I have been to several salons in NYC and a top salon in San Francisco for this process, and Shige does it professionally and perfectly each and every time! He knows hair! His team is polished, polite and so gentle! I am confident when I go here that I will be well taken care of and emerge with silky soft smooth hair. Know that you will walk into an environment of calm and walk out with a smile on your face! I applaud this Shige and this salon for outstanding service every time! Thank you so much!!! more

Highly recommended! 5/12/2010

I would like to recommend Shige Kosuda Salon, which is highly professional but also relaxing. Tina Marie, who cuts hair and also colors, is fantastic. She always gives a great cut and the kind of cut that grows in well and keeps its shape a long time. She listens well and does exactly as you request. High end service, lots of attention 4/29/2010

I love Shige Kosuda! Tina is a miracle-worker with blonde hair... she took me from a dark red dye job last June to a light, sunny blonde. It's lighter than my actual color, but it looks natural and healthy and I consistently receive compliments.\r \r The other staff members are very helpful and attentive - I'm never without a beverage! The massages (shoulder and scalp) are unparalleled in awesomeness. As an added bonus, the salon offers the best fluffy, gossip mags.\r \r I recommend the salon in general (and Tina specifically) to anyone looking for a top-notch salon experience. I would note that this is not cheap... they do great things, but you have to pay for it. A blow dry costs $50, for example. When cash has been tight, Tina has let me blow dry it myself... so they are friendly and will work with you!\r \r Pros: Service, location, staff overall Cons: Pricey (but worth it) more

Shige Kosuda is a wonderful salon 4/8/2010

I have used Tina as my hair colorist for 5 years and she does excellent work. I followed her from a different salon last year. I enjoy coming to Shige Kosuda, the staff is very professional and friendly. They also have a nice selection of products to purchase. Please check it out and ask for Tina!! Pros: Tina's expertise! Been Going There Over 10 Years! 4/6/2010

I've been going to Nome at that salon for over 10 years and i love him. He spends lots of time with me discussing what i want, even though i've been there so long. I seriously love this place...! Pros: Clean, Comfortable, Neck Massage with Haircut, Cons: None that i can think of (seriously) more

Friendly people, amazing haircuts! 4/1/2010

I found Shige Kosuda when my favorite stylist moved from another salon. I love it. The atmosphere is friendly and chic without being intimidating. You'll get a massage with your shampooing, and allow me to recommend Satoshi - he's the best. Tina is the reason I started going to Shige Kosuda, and she's the best stylist I've ever had. She knows how to make my hair look polished and stylish without dooming me to spend hours in front of the mirror every day - wash and wear and great-looking. Tina is also the person who convinced me to try coloring my hair, and I absolutely trust her with it. I'm a natural blonde, and she's done blonde(r), red, brunette. It always looks natural, rich and wonderful, and she never lets me do anything that won't look good. What are you waiting for? Go visit Shige Kosuda! Pros: great cuts, color, easy scheduling more

The best place to go for japanese straightening 1/6/2010

I have been to a few places in NYC to have my hair straightened (known as ""japanese straightening"" or TR, ""thermal reconditioning"") and this is my favorite. There is no need to go anywhere else. My hair is straight, soft and smooth every time. I travel from Boston twice a year just to go here, and it is worth the trip! Pros: comfortable, friendly, great results! more

My hair always look amazing when I leave 12/28/2009

I go to Tina to get my haircut and in the 30+ years I've been getting my haircut and styled, no one has ever done a better job. She listens to what you want and is, I would say, a conservative cutter. No saying you want one inch off and walking away with hair that's six inches shorter. And she does a brilliant job of styling it! more

Best Highlights with Tina! 11/30/2009

I have been struggling to find a decent hairdresser to do my highlights in NYC for almost 3 years (!!!), and after paying more than $200 at different salons, I still wasn't happy before I found Tina. She understood immediately what I wanted and my hair looked wonderful and natural. Besides making my highlights look so great, she cuts my hair so perfectly, so I don't need to style or do anything with it, after washing. Additionally, the price is always reasonable and the result is always great! I would recommend Tina for everyone who wants the best highlights. more

Amazing hair salon! 6/23/2009

I stumbled upon this salon a few years ago. I watched them in the window and was in awe as they made hair get silky smooth. I went in and haven't looked back since. I used to go to Louis LIcari and Frederick Fekkai but I actually think my stylist at this salon(Nome) does a much better job on my hair at a fraction of the cost. You will walk out with silky smooth hair(I think they use a special shampoo) and it will last all week if you want it to. I actually go there 2-3 x a week. Even though it's really far from my apt! However, I have tried places near me but I always feel like it's a waste of money. Nobody does as good of a job as my stylist at Shige Kosuda(Nome) except maybe some of the other stylists at the salon. I strongly suggest going here and try the hair manicure or the conditioning treatment. It's AMAZING!!! Pros: Massage following your shampoo Cons: I travel great distance to get to the salon.. more

My Colorist - Tina 6/17/2009

I have been seeing Tina for my cuts and color for close to 10 years and have faithfully followed her whenever she has moved to a new salon. Tina is THAT GOOD. My natural color is dark brown but in Tina's very capable hands I have at times been a blonde or a redhead. I would only trust Tina with these changes. She has a special knack for choosing the right shade to go with my particular coloring. I have never been disappointed. Aside from that, she is a lovely person.and a true friend She really listens. I look forward to my appointments with Tina and would gladly recommend her to anyone looking for a new stylish/colorist. Pros: Great cuts and color Cons: None - Can't go wrong more

I have been a loyal customer of Tina's for quite some time and do not trust anyone else with my highlights or haicuts! Tina is an amazing colorist/stylist, and I always get compliments on my highlights -- they are the most natural-looking and blondest highlights I have ever had. Fabulous haircuts and color 6/2/2009

I thoroughly enjoy coming to this salon for many reasons. Appointments are honored, consultation is followed, hair cuts are always exactly what I ask for, and color is extremely natural and brilliant. The massage is amazing, and parking on the weekend is possible on the street if you get there early. Pros: Professional staff catering to all hair needs more

What would i do without Nome?? 5/22/2009

I have been a client of Shige Kosuda Salon for about a year now and truly do not know what i would do without my weekly appointments with stylist, Nome. I put in hair extentions last year after a poor decision to try short hair. As anyone with extentions knows they can be a costly & timely choice. I started seeing Nome at the excellent recommendation of a friend and have been truly pleased with the results. Nome is not only kind and delightful to chat with but his talent and skill at his profession is rightfully noted. He takes his time and care to make sure i always leave looking my best. Nome maintains my extentions and i also trust him with color analysis and application along with cut and style. I couldn't ask for better service and the salon is very fair on cost. From the friendly receptionist, Cassia to the amazing staff and immaculate salon it is always a wonderful experience, Kudos! Pros: Best Service in the city more

Excellent Salon! 3/11/2009

I have been coming to Shige Kosuda Salon for over 3 years and I am always incredibly pleased with their services and customer service. The stylists spend a tremendous amount of time making sure that your haircut, color, etc. is always done to perfection. I have been coming to Shige Kosuda Salon for 8 years for styling, straightening and coloring, and it has been always perfect !! I have been a member of Screen Actors guild for more than 24 years, and currently have a contract with Ford Models. This might add an extra credit to Shige, who makes everyone look like a star !! more

He is my IDOL!!! 12/7/2002

Well, I have been going to Shege Salon for almost 5 years. I am VERY picky about my stylist, and I found Goto @ Shige Salon the BEST I have ever been!!!! And his price is soooo reasonable! Goto definately knows what he is doing. He looks at your hair quality, the shape of your face and head, and determines what type of cut best suits for you. I have NEVER dissapointed with his cut. NEVER!!! And your hair still looks good for months!!! more
