This place has the best chinese food around! The chicken is all white meat, the fried pork dumplings are so crispy and warm and served with the best sauce, and the sweet and sour...

Pretty good, but a little pricey 6/6/2006

Compared to the other restaurants in Chinatown, Shiao Lan Kung is a bit pricey. However, compared to the prices elsewhere in Center City, I'd say that it is a decent value. The dining room is small. Even in the early evening on a weekday will there be customers. The staff are okay, but not especially helpful. The food is why you'd come here. The salt-baked squid is good. However, the seafood hot pot is just so-so. I'd say this is better than Imperial Inn. But I wouldn't wait all night to get in. The food is not to die for. Yet the newspapers seem to love this place- on the wall I saw articles from years back with glowing reviews of their food. Personally I'm not adventurous enough to try frog legs, though. more

One of the best in Chinatown 8/9/2005

I grew up eating the stuff, so I should know......this place has one of the best Chinese food in Philly! There is always a line to eat there, especially since it's a pretty small place. Trust me, it's worth the wait, the food is GOOD, which makes up for the at times, curt service. Must haves: salt-baked squid, sweet & spicy shrimp, tofu eggplant hotpot, oh, and their pan-fried noodles are good too. more
