as a legal resident of this often - not too warm and friendly toward "" diversity"" place called southbury, and transgender woman; I have been [ at times I feel UNFORTUNATELY ! ] shopping at southbury shaws for over 6 years since they took over the former grand union. this both before my MTF transition and after. anyway, years ago, we had no other choice in this often - snooty town as to where to shop at convienent hours. southbury food center , even though it has always had cheaper prices and much better quality food and service, was not open after 7 PM . not only is the management rude here at shaws, but the shelves are often hardly stocked and the produce, withered! and so, till our new stop and shop opened in southbury plaza ; I had been shopping at this shaws. MORE THEN ONCE I FOUND THE WOMEN MANAGERS TO BE VERY RUDE TOWARD ME, this perhaps because I never did fit this snobby and closed minded town's , definition of what is "" normal"" ; as in married with children yuppie soccer mom / baseball dad, or long time southbury resident , traditional working class hillbilly ; again married with children! anyway, once when I had , VERY POLITELY ASKED the woman assistant manager whom usually works night; the traditionally-dressed in jeans, "" NASCAR mom "" one with the long, brown hair [ julie?] where an item could be found; SHE RUDELY TOLD ME "" HOW THE HELL SHOULD I KNOW?"" TO MY FACE! I have found this very true of many of the managers working at this shaws , including "" deb"", front end mgr. THEY ALL SEEM TO BE FRIENDLY TOWARD ONLY THOSE WHOM FIT THE FAMILY-FRIENDLY , TRADITIONAL SOUTHBURY IMAGE; the way that I feel , I too, am a customer whom deserves GOOD, COURTEOUS SERVICE ; something I'll admit I get from most of the cashiers and service/stock workers. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THOSE RUDE WOMEN MANAGERS WITH THE ATTITUDE PROBLEMS? I WILL TAKE MY BUSINESS TO STOP FROM NOW ON ; WHERE THE MANAGEMENT IS MORE PROFESSIONAL TOWARD ALL PEOPLE!
Pros: younger cashiers are usually nice, especially the women.
Cons: lousy produce, shelves often understocked; RUDE WOMEN MANAGERS!
