Best

My husband and I were reluctant to dine at Shanghai Cafe due to several comments stating the negative customer service experience they had had. Fortunately we decided to try ...

Worst

Slow service and mediocre food. The chicken seemed fake, the other dishes lacked flavor.

The Worst Sweet And Sour Pork Spare Ribs I Have Ever Tried 5/26/2006

I went to this restaurant for lunch on Sunday May 21, 2006 between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. And it was the worst excuse for Chinese food I have ever had in my Life!! I have eaten at at least 100 different Chinese restaurants in my life, and this place had the worst food I have ever had in all the 4 decades that I have eaten at Chinese Restaurants in my life. I ordered their sweet and sour pork spare ribs at this restaurant and almost became sick after I tried to eat what they served me. The Boneless sweet and sour ribs they served me were so full of super tough, thick, rubbery fat in each and every piece of boneless spare ribs I tried to eat that I had to ask for a knife in order to SAW through every piece of those horrible rubbery ribs that I tried to eat and try to get some meat off of. The sweet and sour sauce that covered those ribs tasted like really super cheap quality sweet and sour sauce that one might get at a bargain food supply store. The meat tasted like it was made from a diseased pig that was fed animal body parts instead of any healthy vegetation. After trying to eat about half of that grotesque excuse for sweet and sour pork ribs they served me, I finally slid my plate aside and drank lots of tea in order to wash that discusting taste from those rubbery, sick tasting boneless ribs out of my mouth that almost made me vomit. Then the waiter asked me what was wrong with that food. I told him that it was way too tough with thick, rubbery fat in order to eat it. He asked if I wanted a box to take it home, and I told him no way. Then I was given a bill for $14.55 for that awful excuse for chinese food, a small bowl of white rice, and a Pepsi. They should never have charged me for that un-edible food that they served me. And then the waiter added insult to injury by charging me full price for it. I will never eat at that God-awful restaurant again!! And I would never recommend that terrible food to anyone...Not even my worst enemy would deserve such an awful, grotesque, discusting meal. I would bet that people in prison have better food to eat than what I was served at this restaurant. Needless to say, that I don't recommend eating at a place that serves such awful food, and then charging too much money for it after not even being able to eat it. I would have argued with the staff at that reatsurant and demanded not to pay for that cat-puke tasting food if I had not been in such a hurry to get back to the seminar that I was taking a lunch break from when I decided to try a new Chinese restaurant. Beware of this restaurant, and God help you if you eat the same poor quality sweet and sour pork spareribs they served me. more

Great Chinese in Bellevue! 3/28/2006

Yum. This food is fantastic, and healthy too. Well it is definitely better for you than Panda express or Magic Dragon. Please note that I am not comparing Shanghai Cafe with these chains, they don't even come close. The hand shaved chow mein is great, general tso is amazing, and the shrimp with chili sauce is fantastic! If you haven't been you need to stop in for lunch or dinner sometime soon. You will not regret it. They are in factoria. more

Shanghi Cafe 3/24/2006

This restaurant appears to be a "hole in the wall" type place from the outside, but the food it absolutely amazing! The chow mein is thick and home made, it was the BEST chow mein I have ever had. The chicken kung pao was also great. I brought someone there who wasn't fond of Asian food, and now he is hooked. This is definitely a place to try! Get there early because they are very busy on the weekends! (They have take out too) more

Ok Chinese food 9/15/2005

It’s really tough to find good Chinese food in WA. This place tries to do a good job, and I guess moderately successful, especially when compared to many other Chinese food restaurants I’ve tried in WA. The lunch menu is priced reasonably well (for Bellevue), and the authenticity is better than you’d find at Panda Express or the like. more

The Best Chow mein ever! more Authentic chineese food! 8/18/2005

This is probably my favorite chineese food resturant! i've never had real chineese, but i asume this is more authentic than most places.. The chow main noodles are to die for! at first sight it might scare you off as they look like big thick strips of playdough, but they are hand shaven noodles with a yummy sauce! Also beware that if you ask for sweet and sour chicken, they may bring you sweet chili chicken, which is my second favorite dish there but has a bit of spice to it! Fanstic food! About the same price as most other places! Try it! located in factoria. more

Fantastic Chicken with Sweet Chili Sauce 8/17/2005

Shanghai is one of our favorite places, specifically for one dish. The chicken with sweet chili sauce is one of the best "deep fried" chinese chicken dishes I've found. It's spicy, not too sweet, and so very tasty. Other items of note here are their hand shaved noodles in their chow mein, and their fried rice is pretty good, though I've never been a big fan of that specific dish. Mix and match a little, the beef with broccoli is quite good, and every dish we've had from them has been at least "good". For consistent quality and a few specific amazing tastes, I highly recommend Shanghai Cafe, for takeout or to eat there. more
