Shands At Lake Shore Hospital

I go in with severe abdominal pain, at least a 10 on a scale from 1-10. They tell me im gonna be next as soon as they get a bed available. I ended up waiting from 9pm-2am finally got out at 4am. Not to mention they refused to run more tests, claimed they gave me a spinal exam and didn't. Their receptionist was rude, I wanted to go back and use the phone to call my mom and let her know I was still alive, but they wouldn't let me. They said "We can't let you back, someone has to go back with you." Thats funny because later on a drunk guy and his mom got to go back there and get food. more

I have cancer. I spend a lot of time in and out of this hospital. There are things i love and hate about this hospital. I love the Obgyn care. When I had my baby there, I had received excellent care and service. The nurses while overworked were the best. They gave their whole heart to provide me the most comfortable care possible. As far as some of the other floors, I have experieced poor care. I think this is partially do to the fact that the nurses and staff are just over worked!! I remember ringing for a nurse, and it took them over an hour to come see if I needed anything. I had to beg for towels and soap for a shower. I ended up getting out of bed and going down to the laundry center and begged staff to just give me a weeks worth of towels at once so that i did not have to feel like I bothered anyone. The ladies in laundry are the greatest!! As far as food service is concerned, I really enjoyed the service. At that time i WAS a vegan, and the food service manager called me personally, to make arangements with me, to make sure I was satisfied. We went over a list of menu items to fit my needs for my stay. I was very lucky to have my room swept and mopped. It seemed as if they did not put their heart into making cleanliness a real concern. Overall, my experience at this hospital has not been as possitive as it should have been. more

The staff here do not make you feel welcome at all. They treat you as if you are a burden by being there with your emergency or problem. I think the hospital is gross and really needs a new face lift due to it being so old. but it is the only one in the area unless you are a veteran. So if this is your only option, then ofcourse seek medical help but if you can afford to travel to a larger hospital then I woul drecommend you do that. more

This a pretty old hospital that desperately needs to be renovated. It is very dirty even after the cleaning people just leave. They just don't do a good job because they don't care what it looks like. The emergency room is always busy so you are forced to sit in a very discusting waiting room so you can get a disease. If you have another option, just go somewhere else! more
