Never disappointed 10/6/2010

I can always find something at the Shadyside Variety Store. Where can you get a classic rubber chicken or get really creative for Halloween? It is very easy to overstuff Christmas stockings simply because it is so difficult to make up your mind. Have shopped here for years. It is always changing but it remains a solid throwback in time. It is family-owned and run and the women are delightful! I love this place! Come here to get wonderful ideas and out-of-the ordinary items. more

Fantastic Find! 10/6/2010

This store is a fantastic find. Both children and adults will have fun browsing through the unique toys, games, puzzles, books and seasonal items that are not likely to be found at larger chain stores. The salesperson was most helpful to me in finding gifts for my 2-year-old nephew and 10-year-old niece. Adults will enjoy finding gag gifts, costume party accessories and party favors. The store has the feel of an old-fashioned five and ten with its wooden floor and display shelves. I recommend this store to everyone! more

This is the type of place you would go to find those quirkly little odds and ends you can't find anywhere else. A great place to brainstorm for novelty gifts, a costume party, and a classic present for a younger sibling. more

Nice variety 8/20/2005

I would definitely recommend this place to a friend. They have extremely low prices and a huge variety of items. Almost perfect if it were not for the bad customer service. it seems there is only one person that works there. When the cashier is done ringing someone up she'll leave and go do whatever. more

Find gifts that you can't find at chain stores 8/20/2005

Selling a small selection of niche toys, the Shadyside Variety Store contains items that you're not likely to find at large brick-and-morter chain stores. Although most of the toys are small, you can some interesting puzzles, children's reading material, and novelty items. Price can sometimes seem a bit high, so the store can be good for browsing and later purchasing items online. more

Satifies all of your quirky needs 8/17/2005

While one may dismiss it as a toy shop, I like to look at the Shadyside Variety Store as the perfect place for adults to go to bring out "the kid inside." They always have unique items, ranging from wigs to fake nose/eyeglass combos. My friends and I used to go there to find novelty gifts, or accessories for costume parties. more

Great toy store for adults AND kids. 8/16/2005

The Shadyside Variety Store offers up a great selection of old fashioned toys and games, puzzles and books. There aren't too many stores left like this in the country. Outside of Bryn Mawr, PA I haven't seen anything like it in PA. Great educational and interesting toys and amusement for children. In addition to straight up toys, the store offers project kits and all sorts of the other games that are a rarity in this crazy world we live in. The Shadyside Variety Store looks like something from way back when. more
