HORRIBLE service, bad food 7/1/2007

We waited 30 minutes and when the food still didn't come out, asked the employees and were answered with a shrug. We asked again, and they had lost the ticket, saying the food would be out immediately. Waited another 10, only to find the order wasn't right, and the buns were burned. They apologized later, and offered to comp us some food, but by then there was no way we could wait any longer, and left pretty unsatisfied. If it weren't for their location, or if anyone else opened a burger and fries stand, they'd be long gone. One of the guys said the other time he'd been there the service was also bad. Pros: location, vibe Cons: bad, overcooked food, bad fries, horrible service more

Best Burger in Southern California 6/26/2007

This is the best hamburger in Southern California! The order to have is a Shack Cheeseburger with fries and a pitcher of beer. I usually eat two of these but occasionally I will eat three. The Shack Cheeseburger is a single patty of hamburger meat topped with American Cheese and then topped with a grilled butterflied Louisiana Hot Sausage with all the usual fixin?s. Top the fries with Tabasco Sauce and you have a great meal! The staff is always friendly and fun, the place is usually jumping with an eclectic group of locals, or local workers, or beachcombers, or all of the above. I live in Portland Oregon now but whenever I am in the Los Angeles area I always make my pilgrimage to The Shack in Playa del Rey. Pros: Burgers and the beach plus a fun crowd Cons: Parking more

Pretty good burger 11/17/2006

This place has good burgers and I liked the zucchini, but I wouldn't go much more into the menu than that. My friend had a very questionable tuna melt, and there was a scary salad involved too... but, they have a good jukebox and good beer on tap. Close to the beach, which is good and bad parking can be tricky) more

Best dive bar in LA, try the Shack Burger 11/9/2006

One of my favorite places to have a burger and a beer, the shack is the ultimate in casual dining. The crowd is mostly locals, a colorful mix of family-types and hardcore boozers during the day that segways into a college crowd in the evenings. The staff is friendly and the food is simple, don't expect more than burgers, sandwiches and things that can be deep-fried, but good, and the Shack-Burger is a perennial favorite. Just about every night has some sort of special activity or promotion, including some often-painful karaoke. Pros: good food, cold beer Cons: a bit of a dive more

great burger & beer place 5/4/2004

going to the shack after a bike ride on the beach for a burger and a pitcher of beer makes the exercise worth while. their onion rings are really good, but at that point you may as well skip the bike ride since youll never be able to make up for eating those. more
